That camp is also a scam.

Kotaku fell for it as well, now going "SHAME ON YOU INTERNET"
Regardless of how appropriate this is as a Kickstarter, death threats are still ridiculous.
And that validates the kickstarter somehow?
He never said it does.
God Thorn, stop trying to start a fight.

Fight. Struggle. Endure. Suffer. LIVE.Oh come on, look at that headline.
I thought you were talking about the poster above you, not the article.
Kotaku are a bunch of contemptible nitwits.
I don't think sending death threats on the internet is ever reasonable, and I also think that attempting to scam people is horrible and should be denounced.
Fight. Struggle. Endure. Suffer. LIVE.Anyone get the feeling that she seems horribly misguided? I mean, she just recently asked Moot and 4chan on Twitter on what to do with the 20k from the Kickstarter. She seems unaware of how the internet really works.
Or she's a genius somehow and this is part of her plot.
thats strangely optimistic of you.
a true cynic would believe all people besides themselves are morons.
shame on you.
Someone said that this whole thing seems to be an attempt at trying to teach the kid the meaning of personal responsibility and how not to be spoiled into getting everything you want.
I'm sorry, but fuck that. I can understand getting upset and reporting the kickstarter because you think it's a scam (I think it's a scam too), but only the most hypocritical scum justifies attacking a 9 year old with anonymous death threats to teach them a lesson about personal responsibility.
If people did send death threats to the 9 year old. I haven't clicked on the Kotaku article because, well, Kotaku.

Fight. Struggle. Endure. Suffer. LIVE.i think the mother was the one getting the death threats. its just the threats were...i think, made on the kickstarter page where the 9 year old goes to check the responses?

Oh, if it's the mother getting the death threats, I don't mind as much. Adults take this sort of thing differently than children.
Still, it's kinda awful to post them where the kid can see them.
That's the other thing; I think the people who funded this kickstarter aren't only sending the person the wrong message, they're sending everyone the wrong message that Kickstarter is some sort of pity service.

Fight. Struggle. Endure. Suffer. LIVE.I don't think that's what he means. I think he's referring to the Kickstarter itself.
Which, really, I wouldn't say that that teaches personal responsibility so much as it teaches, "If mommy won't give you money, beg the internet for money!"

Insert witty and clever quip here. My page, as the database hates my handle.Beg for money from people to whom you'll be responsible. If you don't deliver goods or refunds, they WILL track you down and make you pay up. Not with death threats, but by leaning on the mom to pay back.
So, essentially, borrow money from the Mafia?
Insert witty and clever quip here. My page, as the database hates my handle.Someone else also said that you shouldn't really feel the need to call this thing out as a scam, especially if it's not your money that's being used to fund it, and thus doesn't effect you in any way.
And besides, now she's willing to turn this shit around and not fund it as tuition or cause anymore. She's gonna pay for the tuition herself after everything that happened. The question that remains is: what the hell is she gonna do with the rest of the money?
Refund it, I hope.
Insert witty and clever quip here. My page, as the database hates my handle. She's going to fund it herself and hand the money back? That's nice. Hopefully it cools down all the heat brought up against them.
Still, it's kinda awful to post them where the kid can see them.
Funny thing is, when the mother read a death threat in front of her daughter, she broke down and cried, especially after trying to shield her from the negativity as much as possible.
Just wanna be clear: we're not necessarily calling her out because she's rich and successful, right? We're not "anti-success" or think anyone who's this rich is automatically a Corrupt Corporate Executive, right?
No, of course not. Nobody is saying that. But a lot of people here are probably thinking it.
Apparently, she's done this on fucking Indie Gogo as well. This lady has a problem.
EDIT:No, merit-based class progression is the basis of good society. But being a compulsive scammer is another thing all together.

EIGHT GLORIOUS SIDES
It really shouldn't cost that much to go to a camp for gaming. Sure, the program costs money, but they can make it back up over time without price gouging. Also, the only reason a camp like that is relevant is because it gets the kid out among others with the same interest. A game designing club at school would serve the same exact purpose.
