Latest chapter is out.

Looks like the next is going to be the last.

But not the last we're going to see of the story, because it looks like an anime is coming soon.

@180 Thank you for sharing that; I had been wondering for a while what this would be like as an anime. I'm hoping that they do more than a 12- or 13-episode run; I feel like that would condense things too much.

I'm a bit "GAH" over the last chapter coming out this week. It feels too soon. But as the saying goes, always leave them wanting more; I've enjoyed the whole run.

Well, that's it, the last chapter's out.

Holding hands is ultra-lewd and showcases how much the relationship between Shouya and Shouko has progressed from its start, so I'm not sad that they didn't kiss, in the end. It's enough.

I'd say this ending and last volume in general lacked some of the impact and power of the start and the original one-shot, but it was still pretty good. There's some other things I think about this general ending, but I think they're unnecessary to say. Overall, it was a great, fun ride. I'm looking forward to whatever Ooima does next.

I think the actual ending itself was executed quite nicely. It's a good way to end.

Honestly, I'm just shocked that Kawai seemed to be genuinely nice towards Nagatsuka at the end. Maybe, just maybe, she stopped being a complete narcissist.

For Shouya and Shouko... the ending made sense. The story was never about love; it was about friendship. The question of love didn't need to enter into the equation. The last chapter showed them finally getting what they both wanted.

The more I think about it, the more perfect that last image becomes. Nervous, they hold hands and face their shared painful past together, ready to make good memories out of the future.

For whatever the mangaka's next work is, I'm in. I don't need convincing; this series already did it.

Yea, I never got the feeling the series was ever about romance, but rather forgiveness and friendship. And this ending really encapsulated that.

It's not the most amazing ending ever and it did lack some oomph, but I'm satisfied.

Nice. I hope they go for a pragmatic adaption. If they cut too much early stuff out it could really hurt the story.

They could adapt the first book, and still get the core part of the series across, without having to deal with the heavy melodrama of the final volume.

Heck, I think the big fear many people have is, rather than which parts will be adapted, is whether the dreaded Homogenizer will be in effect for the movie. Ahahaha...

[up] I'm personally fine with this so-called homogenizer. It's not like the Manga art is exceptionally unique.

Finished this and what a ride.

Picked on a whim from the bookstore first two volumes and that was some powerful stuff, I had to binge it all immediately.

Where do I even start, there's so much good and so much crap you wished was presented, handled better and aaagh

And we're getting a Kyo Ani movie this year! With Saori Hayami as Shouko!

"Hmmmmmmm…" evil grin

The films seems very... silent, no pun intended. Not a whole lot of music (though maybe they'll be added in the final release). The sign language parts are obviously what I'm most curious about − I don't think anyone has ever animated that.

I'm also curious about how many characters they're gonna keep. Keeping them all seems difficult...

But anyway, I'm glad KNK is getting an anime, even in this form. It deserves it. surprised

In recent news, MEXT, Japanese Ministry of Education and Science (and Sports, and Technology) plans to do a collaboration with the movie to raise social awareness on bullying and suicide prevention. The first of the events include distributing posters of the movie to every public school in Japan.

Watch it in my local cinemas, it was awesome. Too bad they had to cut a lot from the manga, though. Still awesome

I watched that movie too. It's the single greatest commercial for manga ever, and also a fantastic movie. Now I want to read the manga.

Kawai, the Mom and Mashiba really suffer hard from this compressed adaptation, but Shoko and Shoya are still fantastic. When the movie kicks it into high gear, it's also an orgasm of beautiful animation and imagery.
