  • Name: Elis Brooker
  • Sex: Male.
  • Age: 24
  • Appearance: Elis has a rather rough appearance; he has gaunt features, piercing grey eyes, sporadic light scarring down one side of his face, and scruff that's always a few days away from becoming a proper beard. His hair is black and short, and like the rest of him rather unkempt. Despite the above he has a kind demeanor and gentle temperment, and tends to be rather expressive as a result of it. His normal attire is fairly common; a tunic and belt, a short chain mail shirt underneath that, trousers, leather shoes, and a woolen cloak with hood. He appears a few years older than he actually is.
  • Magic: Elis specialises in Heal and Water Manipulation; he believes greatly in the restorative qualities of water, and thus researched it as a by-product of his healing magic. He's also started to branch out into Plant Control- in particular the ability to manipulate plants easily via the water within them- though it's hardly something that he pays abundant time or research to.
  • Weapon: He carries around a sling- along with a small bag of rocks- and a dagger. Both are simply for self-defense, but he's proficient enough in both to use them in battle should he need to.
  • History: Elis grew up in a small village, where the community was tight-knit and their worst problems amounted to simply surviving through some of the harsher winters. While he was expected to take up the farming trade after his father, he instead took an interest in his mother's occupation as a healer; while he followed and assisted his father around the fields during the day, at night he would research all he could into the methods and ingredients that his mother utilised for their healing properties. While this caused some problems with his father, his life was otherwise idyllic until the fateful day that they were forcibly dragged into the civil war between their neighboring villages. Their community staunchly refused to take sides and tried its best to stay out of the conflict, but paranoia and years worth of slowly building tension was unleashed when they were made into the battleground where the two sides fought. His mother was killed in the crossfire and his father's fate is unknown after he sent Elis off for his own safety. Elis tried to survive by himself, but his lack of combat experience made him an easy target for petty theives and wild animals (one encounter of which left him with his scars). Hence why he jumped at the opportunity to join Simon's group of sorcerors, both to restart his life and to grow stronger as a healer and follow in his mother's footsteps.

Just to double-check, are you talkin' medieval tech with bows or crossbows, and not like, hand cannons and muskets or anything, right? Unless you are talkin' about that. I'm not going to give my dude a ranged weapon so this is more for curiosity's sake.

Yeah, this is High Middle Ages fantasy, so the usual fare of swords and lances and whatnot. Obviously you magic users have an advantage over those who don't have an arsenal of spells handy, but against more experiences wizards you're outmatched.

mrminun: Sorry, still cannot accept since your character since the History section still does not correspond to what was stated in the OP. The magic based on emotions won't work either.

daltar: Ariadne Bluerose is accepted. Spells she should also have mastered include:

  • Light Wrap: Made of magic energy, this rope of light if flat and not very strong, but serves to bandage up wounds and stop bleeding. Fades away over time, so like real bandage wraps, needs to be reapplied from time to time.
  • Levitate Stand Alone: Levitation of an object without having to concentrate on that object. It can be left out of sight and mind for a few hours before it settles back down.
  • Shield Wall: Whereas the original shield spell was only a small area in front of the hand, this one creates a person sized wall
  • Wind Whispers: Words coming with the wind even from far away will be heard clear as though they were right next to you.

Just Some Guy 732: -_-, that's like the 6th time I've seen that picture used for a character in an RP. Tyriel Darkwind-If-That-Is-Your-Real-Name is accepted. Spells he should have also have mastered include:

  • Wind Whisper: Words coming with the wind even from far away will be heard clear as though they were right next to you.
  • Cool Down: Allows a person to mess with the air particles and lower the temperature in an area.
  • Air Express: Anything light enough to be carried by the wind will be sent by a magic air current to the place envisioned by the sender. Works great with paper messages. The farther away, the weaker the wind gets it eventually dies off though.

montmorencey: Micahel Willowcove is accepted. Spells he should also have mastered include:

  • Cool Down: Allows a person to mess with the air particles and lower the temperature in an area.
  • Fireflies: An advanced version of the light orb, this one creates multiple balls of light that hover in midair for a period of time. Doesn't require constant concentration.
  • Shadowing: Disappears into the divide where light meets dark. Wherever a suitably sized shadow is the user can be go into and be rendered immaterial. If the shadow disappears then the caster is forced out.
  • Doppelganger: Creates duplicate illusions of the caster who mirror his or her every move.

whizzerd: Elis Brooker is accepted. Spells he should also have mastered include:

  • Light Wrap: Made of magic energy, this rope of light if flat and not very strong, but serves to bandage up wounds and stop bleeding. Fades away over time, so like real bandage wraps, needs to be reapplied from time to time.
  • Sleep: Puts a person to sleep for a few hours.
  • Growth: Encourages the rapid growth of plants.
  • Soothe: Eases the pain of injuries.
  • Ice: Turns water into ice.

Yay smile. Am I getting this right...Shadowing is like sort of dissolving into a shadow?

Also, I thought of this only way after I posted, but I figured maybe Micahel might be experimenting with wrapping shield-magic so that it will make an illusion tangible. Not that it's working out very well at the moment. Would that be all right, or ought I get that idea out of my head?

Double also...*grumble* Just Some Guy 732's picture was gone by the time I got here, so no I have no clue about his generic looks.

Experimenting with new ideas and pouring over old books for old ones is perfectly fine.

Also, if you put a space between your paragraphs it would make them so much easier to read.

  • Name: Klaus Manhaus
  • Sex: Male
  • Age: 27
  • Appearance: Klaus is a tall, muscular man with brown eyes, dark skin and a full black beard, with the hair on his head being cut shorter than his beard. Sort of like this. He normally wears simple cotton clothing when working or studying. For battle, he wears regular mail armor, and a dull iron helmet.
  • Magic: Klaus didn't really pursue what others would consider offensive magic, relying more on traditional means if he ever has to fight, and focusing on more supportive plant magic, without branching out too far. I only thought of two things:
    • Splinter: By focusing plant magic into his ax as he swings, Klaus can cut through plant material with extreme efficiency, even letting him fell a tree with just a few swings.
    • Heart of Oak: Conversely, Klaus can strengthen plant material and make it more durable.
    • Growth: Encourages the rapid growth of plants.
  • Weapon: Klaus' weapon of choice is a simple ax. Years of dedication to his craft have made him capable of swinging it with tremendous power.
  • History: Klaus was born in a small village in the far north and was quickly apprenticed to a woodcutter, making his living cutting down trees and carrying the wood back to town, and sometimes working for the carpenter when there was less demand for timber. Life was pretty good. Things were at least relatively peaceful due to the remoteness, with wild animals and small groups of goblins or ghouls being the biggest threat he knew of for most of his life. At least, until a day a warband of goblins raided the village.

But there was no Simon and his Sorcerers swooping in like the cavalry. No last-minute rescues that saved the day. Nothing but constant fighting. Having no other idea about what to do, he grabbed his ax, and headed for the first goblin he saw, and swung. He kept swinging for the rest of the day, fighting until it felt like his blood had been drained and he didn’t have any strength left, but at last every last goblin was dead - as well as more than half of the village, including Klaus' parents, wife, all of his friends, and a disagreeable neighbor whose death only meant that he wouldn't have to repay anyone he had borrowed some coin from in the past. And most of those who weren't dead were injured in some way. Klaus himself had been one of the lucky ones who only had severe lacerations some broken ribs.

When he woke up, Klaus knew there was no future left in the village, and so did the other survivors. They were going off to neighboring towns to seek out relatives, but Klaus knew what he had to do. He had heard the rumors. With nothing other than his ax and his knapsack, he made the long journey south, braving the forests as he sought out the Sorcerers and their base so that he could join their ranks. Because he already knew trees well, Klaus found he was better able to understand plant magic than the other fields, so once he had done the basic training with the others, he focused on that branch of magic. As part of the Sorcerers, he makes sure to put his skills to use for more than just stabbing people by assisting those who build and fix things in addition to the usual duties.

  • Name: Gareth Sage
  • Sex: Male
  • Age: 23
  • Appearance: Gareth is of average height, but he's rather broad shouldered and muscular. He has red hair and blue eyes. He generally wears highly practical clothing designed to protect against the elements and provide comfort in equal measure, consisting of a dull green overcloak, a woven shirt and trousers, and boots*.
  • Magic: Aside from the "standard" set of magic, Gareth specialises in a rather peculiar school of magic that revolves around giving the caster the abilities of animals. To be specific:
    • Strength of the Bear: Does exactly what it sounds like. When using this spell, Gareth can call upon the power of a bear, with all that implies. Although it's very handy for anything requiring strength, it isn't suited for tasks that need finesse. For a silly example, you're more likely to rip a stubborn door off its' hinges than jar it open. As a result it's somewhat situational.
    • Eagle Eyes: This spell greatly enhances Gareth's visual acuity, allowing him to see far away and in great detail, making it useful for scouting. Alas, it also makes his eyes much more sensitive to sudden changes in light. So if someone were to wave a torch in front of his eyes, he'd be temporarily stunned and/or blinded.
    • Aquatic Adaptation: Perhaps unsurprisingly, with the use of this particular magic, Gareth can breathe underwater and swim better than he usually would be able to. Like all of his other spells it's time limited, and once it wears off he returns immediately to his regular state (which can make things problematic if, say, he was in mid-gulp when it happened).
  • Weapon: Aside from the aforementioned magic, he is never seen without a longbow (complete with quiver) and his war hammer, Foebreaker*. The former is in all respects similar to other longbows of its type, and Foebreaker is similarly plain, being made out of metal. However, Foebreaker has a specially lightened handle to ease the strain on Gareth during travel.
  • History: Like many of his fellow Sorcerers, Gareth lived his pre-Sorcery life in a village near a forest, where he was the son of the local blacksmith. He was learning his father's trade when the Sorcerers arrived*. Seeing an opportunity to break away from the dull drudgery of his formative years, Gareth eventually wore down the resistance of his father, who was reluctant to let his only son go with a band of seeming strangers into almost certain danger.

When his father relented, he imposed only one condition on Gareth - to take one of his weapons with him to keep him safe, and to never, ever let it go. For this purpose, the senior Sage chose a war hammer that he had finished forging only recently. Accepting the condition, Gareth duly went with the Sorcerers.

Though the training was grueling, Gareth relished the challenge and rose to the occasion. At some point during his tenure with the Sorcerers, he learnt his characteristic style of magic and picked up his bow. He also cultivated an appreciation of nature in the process. He looked up to them as almost a second family, and he was - and is - one of their most staunch supporters. As a result, he was one of the hardest hit by the news that Simon had been betrayed and murdered by the Chief Warlock and his cronies.

This in turn caused a deep resentment of the palace and the royal military to fester within him, and as such he longs for the day when he might be able to finally bring the fight to them rather than remaining within the Sorcerers' stronghold. On the precious few occasions when he has been able to, he has tried to supplement the Sorcerers' food supplies with meat from animals he has hunted from the area close by to the fortress*

, for what little good it does.

I have a proposal waiting, but I want to know what you think of her specialty first:

The spells I have in mind are a bit on the unique side, at least as far as the traditional "elemental/white/black magic" is concerned. Basically, her spells enhance her senses to a supernatural level, giving her the ability to see for miles, hear the sound of a pin drop in a crowded room, and follow a person by their faint stench. She's the ideal scout and tracker, and while she may not have a direct style of fighting (she prefers to hide and shoot with her trusty crossbow), her abilities would be incredibly useful for reconaissance and the like.

Damn, I thought I'd be original. XD Carol's abilities are a little different from Gareth's, rather than having the strength of a bear or being able to breathe underwater, her magic simply enhances all five senses (though I'm not sure why you'd want super taste evil grin). She's not supergirl though; she can't see through solid objects (but can probably hear through most walls) and can't really follow anyone if their scent is covered up by rain or something. In addition to these magical abilities, Carol is just naturally agile and quiet, like a deer...that can climb trees. I've designed Carol to be the ideal tracker and scout, but don't count on her for much help in combat; she's a wimp. tongue

First off a question to the guys participating:

Posts are rather infrequent. Are you guys actually still interested in this? Because if not I won't bother making up a whole character. It would be a shame to see this one die since the setting is one of the better ones I've seen up to now.

Now question regarding Character suitability:

Rough sketch of character (a.k.a. Wall of Text): Main type of magic would be manipulation of air pressure (either using air, water and heat magics or as a magic-category of it's own).

Combat-wise he would combine this with martial arts or weapons where he creates a shockwave with a punch or slice, alternatively creating a small vacuum for increased slicing power with weapons.

For defense it is utilized like a sort of Force field where attackers/projectiles get pushed back/staggered creating opening for him. He can only use it on himself and his immediate surroundings of say 3m max (at high concentration) tho so it's not effective as a ranged defensive spell. He has to actively put up the field so no "arrow suddenly flying at him from out of nowhere at a blind angle. It somehow is blown away"

Tactically he could use it to disrupt communications by either: increasing pressure on the ears of individuals or by increasing air pressure strong enough so sound either doesn't get transmitted at all or is delayed by several seconds.

This type of magic takes a lot of stamina tho, hence his background [down]. Also all of his magic would logically cause at least some degree of visual distortion. If logic does not have to apply and it would make it too similar to Micahel's illusion magic doesn't have to be.

His background would be a type of warrior-monk who was put off by his temples/schools policies of complete passivity concerning the outside world. When Simon appears he jumps at the opportunity to actually go out and gathering experiences for himself. Alternatively a darker version of this where he felt his temple/school couldn't provide him enough of a challenge/stunted his outlook on a future so he left. Joining the Sorcerers was a good way to be faced with strong adversaries. Alternatively he accidentally killed his teacher with a spell gone wrong and was exiled. Haven't decided on any of them yet really.

Personality dependent on the background. Curious/naive, Cocky and agressive or introverted/hateful. Other possible. Since I am generally a rather sarcastic person I don't think I can help but give him a slightly sarcastic mindset.

Weapons: Definitely martial arts due to the nature of his magic. Whether only hand-to-hand or staff/sword/whatever as well not sure yet.

Other: Can write and read due to temple schooling. Not sure if this is a basic skill in the set world tho. Has a basic understanding of tactics and war logistics, same reason.

All of this is subject to change. This is a really rough sketch.
