Advanced Dudgeon and Dragging: Comic RP Discussion Thread

Okay, discussion thread is live!

Before we get this show on the road, I'm going to pitch my idea of handling posting in the main thread. Basically, what I may do is have people post in "rounds": that is, I make one post, everyone else makes one post in response to what I post, then I post again, and so it goes. I figure it's the best way to preserve the turn-based aspect of the original game for a forum RP.

Of course, I'm open to criticism, suggestions, and what-not. I know full well how much of a problem it will be if people don't post (as people who have worked with me in the past know), so if you can think of a better idea, I'm up for it.

This may just be how I'm using to doing things, but I think it's best to just do it the 'normal way'. You make a post to start out the RP, but then the players can just post with no restrictions, except when they're doing anything important, or something that has rules, or are talking to an NPC, etc., then the GM comes in to post again. That sort of thing.

On second thought, it does seem a little restrictive. I would like to preserve the turn-based feel somehow, so...maybe an upper limit of three posts between my posts? Or maybe have it only apply during the main story arcs, and have the guide rails off in between for more character interaction?

Probably best to distinguish combat and just... talky talk. For combat, yeah, that's kinda tricky. The system in my 0E RP was basically just rolling initiative per side, having the side that lost declare their actions, having the winning team declare their actions after that, then resolving that round and starting a new one, but... then like you said, there's that problem where someone doesn't post.

As for non-combat.... Well, I suppose that since you're going to have all the NPCs and we'll have our guys, there's always going to be natural points where we can't post anymore (like KK said, talking to an NPC) and will have to wait, so the only problem I can forsee is if everyone runs in on some poor shopkeep with a purchase order, asking where the restroom is, trying to cast a charm spell on him, and the last guy trying to punch him.... then yeah, that'll be a problem

Just checking in... We're still doing this, right? Because there doesn't seem to have been much activity concerning the RP recently. I just want to make sure this is still happening.

Yeah, I'm just waiting on Paulie to finish the changes I requested. If he doesn't do them by, say, Saturday, we'll just get started, and I'll leave room open for someone else to join after the first arc or two.

And he was done, and we are launched! You All Meet in an Inn (and that's all the guidelines I'm giving you for the first part).

Okay, I'm going to need to do a quick role call on the people who haven't posted in the RP thread yet. I don't want to marginalize anyone, so you probably ought to introduce your characters soon-ish.

Sorry, food poisoning kept me out all day yesterday after lunch, I'll see about getting a post up now.

Maybe just PM anyone else, or post in the signups in case they didn't see the discussion thread?

Sorry I haven't posted yet, I have class from till 8 on Wednesday and I got class from 5AM till 5PM on Thursdays so I didn't really have time to post. I'll go get started.

Klarg commented about her being Ashi's mother, in case you want to use that as a springboard.

I have no idea how we are doing this. Do I roll, do you roll, does someone else entirely roll, are we playing without rolling? I have no clue.

I would like to echo that

I really need to have everyone react to the goblins in some way before I can decide how to move things along (dice rolls or no dice rolls), so...Fantasy Liver and Paulie, do you think you can post soon?

Maybe PM them?

And I dunno, in case this gets tricky, maybe have "default actions" or something our characters will do if we don't post? For example, if I don't post in a fight, assume Klarg smashes something.

If you two guys don't post in the next couple of days, chances are you are not going to like what I'm going to do with your characters...

Well, looks like Paulie won't be around to see what I do to his character, since he's officially dropped out of the RP. I have a plan for now, though, although I hope someone else joins in time for the next arc.
