Equestria Girls: A MLP:FiM Spin Off

So having seen the movie, Big mac does get a Eyup and a Enope, Everything is amazing and the movie was good.

How was my girl pinkie?

Pinkie was being very Pinkie.

I love how many callbacks DHX managed to cram in without making them obnoxious.

Also, the cafeteria song is a total ear worm. I had it in my head for the rest of the day after the movie.

So she's as random as ever?

Still a big eater too?

Dang, I really want to see this now. I'm curious.

As am I.

Overall, the movie was awesome. Nowhere near as "girly" or "cliche" as people feared. Even the ending was decent.

All music to my ears. I look forward to seeing this, somehow.

Apple: Yeah, they played her randomness even more than usual. No big eating that I can recall, although there was actually a pretty big lack of food in general. I think they compensated with the additional randomness and extra emphasis on party decor, though.

That's ok. So long as she's wacky I'm ok with that.

@Applelight Limited: I don't remember seeing her eating anything and she does have subdued cartoon physics (It's there, just not as obvious as her pony counterpart), but yeah, it's pretty much our Pinkie.

Pinkie: (In response to Twilight somehow knowing their names) That girl has a secret. I'm sure of it.
Applejack: An' what secret could that be?
Pinkie: (Dramatic zoom)' She's psychic!

You know, I think I've come to realize that Sunset Shimmer is actually a Composite Character.

Like Trixie she's a rival to Twilight, she caused discord among the Human Five in the past, the reveal of her One-Winged Angel form is similar to Queen Chrysalis's reveal, and she's defeated in the same manner as Nightmare Moon.

I wonder if the movie was meant to be something of an Adaptation Distillation with all the cameos and Call Backs of the series while setting up a possible spin-off series.

If only she shared Sombra's trait...

Then again, that would mean her development would be reduced to growling and snarling. {baduntish}

As in, she has little to no character.

@Calnos: To expand on the Trixie comparison, she has Snips and Snails working for her and she gets a surge of power thanks to an Amplifier Artifact.

Too bad she's inferior to every major villain that came before her.

Sounds like a classic case of "cool concept, not enough followup". Sort of like how in theory Sombra is one of the most interesting villains we've seen, but we didn't get to see much of it.

Kinda sad when you consider they had 72 minutes and thus the extra screentime the 22-44 minute episodes don't get. Maybe they should have just gone for 90 minutes?

Actually, one thing I'm curious about that I don't think has been answered yet...does Twilight already know who Sunset Shimmer is prior to her crown being stolen? If they're about the same age and attended Celestia's School for Gifted Unicorns and both studied under Celestia herself, I would think there's at least a little bit of history between the two.

Or is Twilight just like "Who was that bitch that stole my bling??" and Tia's all "Oh that's my former apprentice Sunset Shimmer. She's a bitch. Go after her!"?

She did. Basically, she's what Twilight Sparkle might have been like if she hadn't gotten friends. All the magic she learned from Celestia didn't help her get what she wanted, which was what led to her fleeing into the human universe and starting her scheme. Once defeated and lectured by Twilight about friendship, she's broken down crying about how she didn't know how to make friends - only how to push them away.

@Calnos The latter. Twilight had no idea who Sunset was and a few of Sunset's initial lines make her come off as an arrogant predecessor. "You mean, you don't know what happens with Element of Magic if it's brought into another world. And you're supposed to be Celestia star pupil." And no, they never go into why the Element of Magic does what it does, which my other big complaint about the movie.

Celestia spelled out that introducing too many elements from another world would throw the balance of the receiving world off-kilter. That's why, when the crown awakened, everything went apeshit. There was no way Twilight could have known because all she got was vague warnings.
