Oh man. This sounds way too good to be true. But if there really is someone who's trying to bring this game back, then I'm all for it.
Gimme gimme gimme.
I will buy it for myself, then I will buy it for friends, then I will twist their arms into playing multiplayer with me even though I know the resources aren't adjusted whatsoever and we'll be scavenging for nanites like crazy later on in the game.
I will buy it. I will buy it forever.
Didn't expect that, considering the legal chaos behind it. But as great as that may be, I'd rather have a release of the first game (which I have on CD, but it doesn't seem to work right anymore). I always enjoyed that one more. I also find it funny that the article calls the second game "more accessible" than the first. My experiences say the opposite.

People aren't as awful as the internet makes them out to be.For anyone who was raised on modern shooters, the first game's controls come across as extremely nonsensical and unintuitive. IIRC (been a while since I played it) you need to click a menu at the top of the screen in order to look up or down, don't you?
The interface is a bit old-school for some. SS 2 is more intuitive if you're not familiar with other first-person games like Ultima Underworld. (Which is IMO a better game and less clunky to play despite being older)
Is it as good a game as Deus Ex?
No, but then nothing is. Still a great game.
For we shall slay evil with logic...Yeah, I keep hearing that System Shock 2 is a really great game and you should definitely play it and so on, but most writers on the net who do say that, say in the next sentence or so that Deus Ex is far better.
And I already have that game and its prequel.
SS 2? I'd say it's about on par with Deus Ex. It depends on what you're in the mood for. SS 2 is a very moody survival horror game with a sense of isolation, which is very different in tone to Deus Ex where you're fighting mostly enemy soldiers instead of horrifying mutants. The gameplay has the same emphasis on resource management and character development as Deus Ex, although SS 2 has no stealth element - enemies will usually spot you as soon as you encounter them.
I personally think Deus Ex is the better game by a hair, but both are in my top 5 favourite games ever.
I never got the love for Deus Ex. I only played System Shock 2 a couple of years ago but totally loved it. This was post Bioshock and Bioshock 2 and I'd say it was superior to both of them ... but lacking the replay value. I never had a desire to play through System Shock 2 more than once. We criticise the linearity of modern FPS games but there was a lot of map- and objective-checking when I played SS 2. Backtracking too. It's fine once but thinking about doing it again seems like a chore.
I would love to see a System Shock 3 someday though, if the legal issues can be sorted out.
I can play System Shock 2 in Win7 - provided I only have one core running (via Affinity). I hope they remove that issue on the Gog version.
Jonah FalconMy Gog of thief doesn't work - the cutscenes don't play.

This thread may have the fixes your looking for.
New theme music also a boxI tried playing System Shock 1. . . I just couldn't make the interface work. It direly needed mouse-look.
Home of CBR Rumbles-in-Exile: rumbles.fr.yuku.comI wish I could get a copy of System Shock 1 again. The normal controls weren't too bad if I recall, but cyberspace was a pain in the dooker.
I still have my Shock 2 disc, although I won't be able to do the multiplayer if I reinstalled from it. Ah well, I've never been big on multiplayer.
Expergiscēre cras, medior quam hodie. (Awaken tomorrow, better than today.)How is this happening, anyways? How'd they get the rights?
"Hipsters: the most dangerous gang in the US." - Pacific MackerelSomeone, somewhere, must have got paid. To mangle the tagline from one of my favourite 80's Arnie movies.
I have no real idea who though. AFAIK the developers and the original publishers don't exist nowadays.
We don't even know that it IS happening yet.
But it probably is. They got the rights for Planescape Torment and that game was kinda in limbo (heh) as well.
Yeah, I remember when the British software company, Mastertronic, were going to publish that particular game on their "Sold Out Software" label a few years ago and it got pulled at the very last minute for what seemed really dubious reasons.
There is a patch for mouselook for SS 1. It's still very clumsy - the interface needs a complete overhaul.
That URL is 404.

Jonah Falconcopy paste the link to the address bar and remove the space and dash between "graphi-" and "cs". See if that works.
