[up] Im personally not agaisnt Pixar and I dont resent their success. In fact they help introduce animation to more people. I just dont like the fact that people ignore their flaws and shortcomings.

I thought Pixar stopped being flawless in the eyes of most fanboys the second they said "We're going to make Cars 2."

I guess when it comes down to it, i'm being driven to insanity because my brain is taking all of the good and magical things about Disney's legacy and turning them into something bad.

Whenever i think about the good things about Disney's work, i end up imagining someone rolling their eyes, sighing and/or pointing out how stupid it is. It just bothers me and i wish that it wouldn't, this never bothered me much when i was a boy, why is it bothering me now that i'm an adult? I don't want to outgrow an important aspect of my childhood.

Your wiser adult brain is battling with your intent to suspend disbelief in Disney films.

[up][up]It just means you're growing up. Now you're starting to see that Disney isn't some infallible thing, seeing how sometimes their films are as two-dimensional as the cels they're painted on. To be blunt, you already ARE outgrowing it. There's nothing you can do about it.

Well, here's the question: Do YOU think it's lame? Or stupid? Or trite? Or do you just understand how others might see it that way? If you find your tastes changing, that's fine, but don't worry overmuch about how you think other people might perceive it.

Walt Disney Pictures is about magic. And if we can't believe in magic, well what's the fun in that?

IRL - kids must learn to believe in and cherish the Godsend that is scientific study and research. It is the only true way to function IRL without being brainwashed. Magic is only there to give that emotion that defines something worth believing in so everyone isn't walking around empty and emotionless.

Staying on subject - Disney needs to cope with the loss from here on out, because they are not the best (no company is the best to me, IMHO) and they NEED to accept that as well - by making & promoting examples of more good stuff I may have and hopefully mentioned before.

I think you may actually be entering the rebelious phase of being teenaged. There's this proverb that says that a child feels without question, a teenager feels and questions everything around him(or her) and it's only when it learns to accept the answers, feeling them for what they are and not what they wanted it to be, then it becomes an adult.

A little less jokingly, it depends on context. It's entirely possible (and I would say probable) to enjoy a feel good movie that has no artistic or intellectual value even while being extremely critical of it, so long as it internally makes sense or in other words wasn't forced to be deliver a delusional or just plain wrong message. In that case, it's just entertainment - perhaps not what you we're looking for, but nonetheless good for what it is. And it's not something that easy to do, if you think that you have to touch people and make them feel, without being directly relevant to their lives (those that are, become what we call dated in the future).

And if it's forced, then we already know how to call it - cliché, cop out, etc. And personally, I hate these kind of things because it's a glaring sign that the creators didn't want to make the effort required for something special. So I think it's not wrong what you are feeling, quite the contrary - this way you can really admire when someone put their hearts and soul into something, rather than a generic "I liked it".

With Wreck It Ralph, Tangled and Winnie The Pooh I actually think Disney is far improving themselves.

PIXAR on the other hand....

Agreed. Pixar IS unfortunately losing its touch - those layoffs happening at said company (and Dreamworks) are not going to help matters at all, either!

People will still make good animation no matter what company it comes from, I just think we need the industry to get out of the death spiral and head toward the Adventure Time creator owned route for a while.

Also in this fight I'm on Team Bakshi, sure I love old Disney movies and adored Wreck It Ralph, but the man made Heavy Traffic, and that film saved my life.

I can't give up on Bakshi when he's taking another shot at the big leagues.

This is something I read on another forum I forward every now and then. This is where I got this unfortunate news. Like I said before, Pixar is not alone in this bad situation. Their competition is facing some trouble as well (which is why I mentioned Dreamworks in all of this, too.)...

Via Yahoo News:

Dream Works Animation SKG Inc might cut a maximum of 500 jobs from its 2,000 member workforce following disappointing holiday results and delays to its film lineup, the Wall Street Journal reported on Thursday, citing a person familiar with the situation.

On Tuesday, the studio said in a statement that it would push back the release of its film "Mr. Peabody & Sherman" to March 2014, while "Me & My Shadow," originally slotted for a 2014 release, would return to development.

"The move of 'Mr. Peabody & Sherman' means that we will now release two films in 2013, and we are adjusting our operating infrastructure costs accordingly," Dream Works Animation Chief Executive Jeffrey Katzenberg said in the statement.

The Journal said that the job cuts were not expected to be limited to the studio's headquarters in Glendale, California.

Dream Works Animation could not be reached for comment by Reuters outside regular business hours.

Walt Disney Co, which purchased Pixar Animation Studios in 2006, told Reuters on Wednesday that it had started cost-cutting initiatives that might include layoffs at its studio and other units.

NOTE: I meant to put this is a spoiler... Sorry.

Well Pixar had one bad film followed by one okay film... and those are after their highest grossing film of all time! .... it almost makes me wish they hadn't released Toy Story 3 when they did because many people believe they'll never top it, and it's raising their expectations too high.
