I once saw a crowbar-like object inside a freezer at the local supermarket which was being swung around in mid-air.

Dude you usually share your ghost story when you start the thread.

Anyhow, this happened in the lone wasteland known as the Sonoran Desert. Me and my crew were doing some fieldwork in the middle of nowhere. It was very very late and we had been drinking lightly (for mexicans) to keep away the cold. So, out the blue I see a figure in the distance. Now, my eyesight, glasses notwithstanding, is pretty sharp and I can recognize people I know at a distance, and I could not figure out who this person was. Besides, from my point of view the figure was dressed all in white, and the features were hard to distinguish.

" Who goes?" I ask. No answer. I call attention to the person to the people next to me, but they kind of fail to care. So I grab my balls and head in the general direction of the white figure. Said figure walks behind a bush and disappears entirely. No sound of footfalls, no rustling, no nothing.

When I got to the spot where I had seen the thing, no tracks. Just mine.

After asking around, some of the people that had been there before say that weird shit happens there all the time. Apparently some dudes have died there before, and non existent people pop up all the time.

Here's mine.

When I was eight years old, my mother and I were staying up late watching TV. My stepfather at the time was working late every night.

I get the feeling I am being watched, so I turn around to look down the hallway. Standing in the exact spot our washer is was a man. My eye sight has always been bad, so I couldn't make out his face (If he had a face) but he had the same build and haircut as my then current stepfather.

We both stared at each other for awhile, until my mom asked what I was looking at. In the time it took her to turn her head, the man walked away.

I asked mom if my stepdad was home, because I thought it had been him. She said no and I told her what I saw. We both cheecked the hallway, but there wasn't anything to find.

This one happened to me back in 2011. This one day, as I was preparing lunch before getting ready for my art history class, I heard something like a lion or a tiger growling. I looked around, and there was nothing there.

Waiting for an exam, I felt a presence next to me, as well as a shadow on the desk I was standing next to. I turned around and there was no one there.

I was walking alone on a dark road at night. Thought I'd heard footsteps behind, but I turned around there and was no one there. I quickened up my pace and didn't look again, but I was sure there was someone there. I got home and when I ran my fngers down the wall, searching for the light, I felt the skin on my neck crawl. I'd seen a horror film the other night, about witches and folklore, and I was a bit jumpy, too scared to take a look at the corner of room as I hurried to bed. It took a long time until I fell asleep and when I did, I had a really horrible dream, something about an evil, ghoulish spirit being turned into a tree.

This one happened to me walking home the day before yesterday. Usually, I walk with my head down the majority of the time, only looking up for people. So I looked up, and didn't see anyone, and as I looked down again, I heard footsteps. I looked up and this normal looking guy, about as tall as my dad, with greying hair and a slightly wrinkled face (he looked like he was in his mid 40s, perhaps early 50s at a push) wearing a plain grey sweater showed up and walked past me. The thing is, I never heard his footsteps behind me, so I turned around and he was gone. He disappeared completely.

This happened last year, when a popular guidance counselor suddenly died of a heart attack. A few days had already passed when this took place. I could remember my friend crying on her desk at one point during that morning, when one of the teachers used his spare time to talk about him, the reception(I say reception because I don't know what's it called. It takes place before the actual funeral) and the guy's son, a little kid who happened to be a friend of her brother's, and spent most of the time during the 'reception' playing with her brother. But I digress. Aside from that, the morning went smoothly. Then came the afternoon class.

I was busy doing an activity so I didn't notice anything until some of my classmates started screaming. I turned my head to see what was going on but I didn't see anything out of the ordinary, aside from a few classmates panicking, one of which in particular was visibly praying. I prodded my seatmate and asked what was happening, which he replied by saying the counselor's name. I had half-guessed that it was him 'visiting' us because the girl who was praying happened to have her third eye open(if you can see ghosts people will know about it here), and that made me sure. A few moments passed. Some of the shock faded a bit, and some of my classmates were already starting to discuss about it when all of a sudden the smell of dead roses permeated the air. We were all quiet after that.

She(the praying girl) told us later that it was him. Apparently she had promised her friends that she'd go to the 'reception', but wasn't able to make it. In the end, he decided to visit her instead.

That's the end of it. I know it's not really scary, and I do have a few more stories(oh the joys of studying in an old Catholic private school) but this post is long enough as it is.

I admit that when I was younger, I was very skeptical about ghosts. I'm not anymore though, because my Dad proved it to me.

My Dad's name was Terrance, though everybody called him either Terry or Tootsie. Tootsie was his nickname; whenever he drove through town, he would always toot his horn and wave at people he knew on the sidewalk, so people began to call him Tootsie (though I think Tootsie Rolls were also his favorite candy, so that might have contributed). Somehow, the nickname caught on with everybody; even my cousins called him Uncle Tootsie.

After he died, my Mom was completely distraught, and looking for guidance, something to let her know that he had made it to the other side. She was stopped at a traffic light, and she began to pray for him. She asked for some sort of a sign to let her know that Dad was okay...

So what happens next? A Tootsie Roll wrapper flies in through her window.

I don't know about you, but if that's not proof that ghosts exist, I don't know what is.

I remember this one time I woke up in the middle of the night and wandered into the front room of the house... and there was a scratching sound coming from the lock on the front door.

My bedroom is right up against the front of the house, so I could kinda peer out of my bedroom window at the front door, just well enough to see that there was apparently no one there. And that the screen door was still closed, for that matter.

I forget whether the sound had actually stopped or not before I gave up and tried to go back to sleep. Come morning, nobody had apparently picked the lock and broken in or anything, so... I still don't know what the heck that was about, not in the slightest.

I couldn't conceive a dream so wet; your bongos make me congo.

The bar / club I work at is allegedly haunted by a former employee, though I don't think anyone there takes the idea particularly seriously. I can say that I've had two vaguely weird experiences there: 1) I once felt a tug on the back of my coat and saw no one there, and more amusingly, 2) the club manager and a band's tour manager were in the back room having a lengthy argument about dividing up ticket sales, when I walked in needing to grab some supplies. When the tour manager was on his way out, an empty keg suddenly almost fell on him - neither he nor either of us could have accidentally knocked it over from where we were.

This one is actually one that happened to my Great-Grandmother who I had the fortune of meeting before she died at the age 103 (She never went senile and could walk without a wheelchair until her last days, yes my great-grandmother did kick ass.)

She was living in London at the time and was going to get married. Her fiance (my great-grandfather) was ridding on a bus going home from work, he was alone on the bus because it was very late and most of the people were already home. He saw a man turn around and look at him and nod at him. Then the man turned away from him. My Great-Grandfather got up to see where who the man was but there was no one sitting in the chair.

When he told my Great-Grandmother about the experience she said that the man looked exactly like her brother. Her brother died in world war 2.

She said that it was her brother making sure that my great-grandfather was okay to be married to my Great-Grandmother.

I was walking home, drunk, after a night on the town, and the place (which is usually packed, regardless of the time of day), was fucking deserted. Think the streets of Pripyat during the world cup final. I walked for about fifteen minutes without seeing anyone, and as I was walking through an underpass beneath the motorway, I felt a disconcerting chill. I glanced behind me, and saw a huge (like bear size) four legged animal, with wonky proportions. It started towards me, and I ran like hell. I looked back at the end of the underpass, and it was gone.

Then again, I was horribly drunk at the time.

I have a hand-full from five or six years ago. At the time my friend was living in her grandparents' basement, and weird things happened on a regular basis.

The very first time I spent the night there we were sitting on the couch and chatting when we both heard husky breathing coming from behind us (and was clearly neither of us). We just fell silent and looked at each other for a few minutes until it stopped.

Another thing that commonly happened was the bed shaking. And by shaking, I mean violently so; frame and all. It freaked me out the three times it happened while I was there, but apparently it happened so often that my friend had learned to shrug it off and just go back to sleep.

My friend also claimed to see a shadowy figure standing at the door between her room and the bathroom, though I never witnessed that.

Lastly, and my personal favorite is the "ghost dog" incident. I had spent the night again and was trying to go to sleep. Suddenly I felt a pressure against my left leg. I grabbed my phone and used it as a flashlight. Sure enough, the mattress was pressed down like an animal was laying right beside my leg. I decided to dub it the ghost dog and eventually managed to fall asleep with it still beside me.

here's one.

when i was younger, i was playing on my Playstation 2 in this somewhat open room with two of my older cousins. while it was quiet, i heard this creepy female voice calling out my name.

a few months later, when our maid slept in the same room, she felt a strange presence pressing down on her.

so much to do, and yet... here, it feels like one cannot do anything but lie here and sleep forever.

Not exactly a ghost story, but I saw someone strange at my friend's house and when I asked him who it was, he went and checked but apparently didn't find anything. I later found out that it was my friend's sister.
