Brad Bird's "Tomorrowland"

Brad Bird's secret project 1952 has officially been renamed Tomorrowland. It will star George Clooney and will be released December 2014.

Judging by both titles, I believe it has something to do with the founding of Walt Disney Imagineering and the creation of Disneyland.

Or it could be a crazy sci-fi film based off the fact it's being co-written by Damon Lindelof

The title alone intrigues me enough to make me want to see it. Throw in Brad Bird, and you've got me thinking this will be a must-see.

Hugh Laurie has been cast as the villain.

The article also mentions a rumor about the story taking some cues from Close Encounters Of The Third Kind. Even though Lindelof has said that it doesn't involve aliens. Between these two bits of news, I'm getting pretty interested.

Oh my god, now that I know this movie is actually set in the actual Tomorrowland, I seriously hope this movie is filled to the brim with references to old Tomorrowland.

I wanna see America Sings characters, the company from Alien Encounter, the Timekeeper, the Rockets to the Moon and Mars, Space Mountain, Paul Frees narrating Adventure Through Inner Space, everything. Please, Disney. Tomorrowland has such a rich history... use it!

Looky what I found.

Two things about this: One, I don't like the Hogwarts comparisons, makes me think of Tomorrowland as a Hidden Elf Village, and not the good kind. Two, I don't think America will go for a slice of optimism pie like this seems to be aiming for, especially not in our future movies. Maybe it's just me, I'm more of a Dystopian kind of person*, and the way the world is right now, people might just laugh this out of the theater.

(*) my own personal revamp for Tomorrowland at a Disney theme park would be making it a more Blade Runner-esque urban blight.

Personally, I'd love a break from dystopia movies for just a little while.

Eh, there's no conflict in Utopia.

Besides, this movie seems like it's going to make-or-break on the backs of Special Snowflakes. I don't know, maybe I'm just too jaded already to take Lindelof's description seriously.

Not for you, you get to be the super-powered Shadowrunner, with cybernetic enhancements, an arsenal of high-tech weapons, loads of money, and complete legal freedom to do whatever you want with it when on the job. Play your cards right, you might even have political connections in the Mega-Corps, maybe even in the rolodex of a dragon. Like, a literal 30-ft tall, winged, scaly, fire-breathing dragon, and he's the CEO of a supercompany with H Qs in 11 shattered nations.

Just stay out of Chicago, or you'll get eaten by giant ghost grasshoppers.

[up] I'm with Corr Terek. That sounds like a terrible place to live.

Personally, the description of the movie makes me as excited for it as I've ever been. It'll be a be a huge relief and change of pace from all the stupid post-apocolyptic movies that have been thrown at us over the past few years, and with the state of the world right now, we could use a little something to give us a reason to be optimistic.
