Sugar said in the AMA that the pilot is not canon but this episode deliberately reintroduces some elements from it.
The Mood Whiplash with the ending was morbidly hilariously, especially the part where Steven sing's about seeing himself die. God I love this show; keeps doing things I don't expect.

Oh definitely, didn't know the pilot isn't cannon though, even then its a good episode. Though it really makes me wonder how a re-make of the pilot could work. And yeah even if it isn't cannon its nice to see little callbacks to the pilot as easter eggs.

I need to see the last three episodes; been missing out on them for....some reason.

...man, I think this might be the first time I ever actually agreed with all the folks who think Steven is annoying. This episode was just cringeworthy and difficult to sit through.
Maybe you'd be less disappointed if you stopped expecting things to be Carmen Sandiego movies.Dat ending. No show combines Black Comedy and cuteness like this one. And Pearl with her violin still was the best, even without saying a single line.
Another cool things: I really love how Garnet corrects Amethyst about Beachapalooza, very cute and consistent trait how she takes thing Steven says seriously. Also she got to show off her shape-shifting skills.
And it seems that Sadie already is hanging with Lars again. Should have known last episode wont have any bigger consequence.
As of 03:23 FUCK THIS EPISODE AND EVERYTHING IN IT I CAN NOT WATCH TIME CLONE BULLCRAP WHOEVER WROTE THIS EPISODE CAN JUST GO TO YELLOWSTONE AND JUMP IN A GEYSER OF BOILING WATER BECAUSE THAT IS JUST A HORRIBLE DEVICE.
Very disappointed from the bottom of my heart.
I did fast forward to the very end though. It was all right. At least everything's back to normal.

Loves feel-good animation a whole lot.Well I think this was another unnecessarily dark episode but it was an interesting idea and it was nice to see Steven (for once) realize he can be annoying at times (not that he often is, nor do I expect him to truly learn from this.)
You know who is annoying and NEVER learns, tho? Amethyst. Seriously, she finds out what is going on and instead of helping just joins the band (not to mention it was her fault from the start.) God I hope we get an episode were she really learns a lesson.
Nice music numbers, btw.
Well, "Indirect Kiss" is coming up and supposedly in that episode she'll almost die, so maybe she'll learn a lesson then?
It doesn't suck just because you hate it.Regarding Steven and the Stevens:
Nice episode. It's yet another example of how time traveling can get chaotic so easily.
I love the face Pearl makes when Steven casually sings about how he accidentally created an alternate timeline.
It's like she was silently thinking "Wait, what?".
Speaking of which, do we have a trope for when people say stuff like "Wait, what?"?

Rick And Morty. Although, the characters look about as cute as Ed, Edd, N Eddy
Dakota's blog An odd agent of justiceOh, I thought you were talking about the "Wait, what?" itself.
Actually, I kinda was.
So someone saying "Wait, what?" is the same as doing a Flat "What"?
HOLY MOTHER OF MERCY!!
The protagonist watches a bazillion versions if himself die! you know, FOR KIDS!
Who writes this stuff?! There's dark and the. There's... Wow. Just wow.
I did like that Garnet is a keytarist, that just makes her so rad.
Seriously though, this episode, So many Birthdays, Frybo, this show gets downright bleak at times but I'm still laughing. I didn't even know there was a market for a black comedy for children.
The Blog The ArtYou didn't? I mean, Invader Zim still kills in reruns, and Ren and Stimpy and Rocko's were fairly bleak shows. I think the reason we're seeing a resurgence now is that this new generation of creators doesn't feel as hamstrung by the anti-violence bullshit of the 80s and 90s.
Maybe you'd be less disappointed if you stopped expecting things to be Carmen Sandiego movies.Technically speaking, none of the Stevens died- they never existed to begin with (though I can't blame Steven for not understanding the difference.)
Currently in the middle of watching the new episode, and was that a King Of The Hill reference they sneaked in?
What scene?
Dakota's blog An odd agent of justiceYes, the Hills were well-known for saying "Okie dokie artichokie" all the time.
...Or the "Yup" thing, that could have been it.
So according to the credits, there were four songs altogether: "Steven and the Stevens", "Ste-Ste-Steven", "Big Fat Zucchini", and "Steven & the Crystal Gems".
The 'yup' thing. Makes it more apparent when you realize that Greg is the fatherly Only Sane Man type (compared to everyone else with all the magic and inherent oddness) and Onion's dad is the incomprehensible quiet-type. 'Yup' and 'Mhm' respectively.
I was wondering if one reason for the pileup of clones in the water temple was that they had to take their fight back in time a few seconds to avoid the walls bursting, and maybe the presence of extra time thingies was causing the walls to take a little longer to give than the first time around.
I suppose my thought about the songs was that Steven must have already come up with the same melodies to "Steven and the Stevens" before he met his time clones for him to have come up with them again when it was just him and the Crystal Gems. You think he just rewrote a song he was working on with his dad? I wonder what else you could rewrite it into.
And I just realized where to find the rest of "Big Fat Zucchini" that you could only hear behind the time chase.
Now I have to wonder about the fact that hitting the drumsticks together had a bend-smear effect when Amethyst did it, but not for Steven...

Also, HUGE callback to the pilot there.
