The gameplay looks pretty good. My concern is mostly about the story and writing. Villain doesn't seem all that compelling, a bit worried this is all gonna turn out pretty predictable.

Gault: Of course it is. You have been on tropes way too long. :P

My money is on Ancient Astronaut precursor/descendants plotline. Ring world without the uber sweet potatoes.

...And then it would turn out that Kett are actually more-or-less good guys and you spent lots of time fighting them because of some misunderstanding. Or, better yet, you fought some heretic faction, while actual Kett are peaceful isolationists.

Now, I really hope a guide to 'mod' the game back to English will be released soon (after the game itself). As much as I love my native language, I'm yet to see a single decent localization into it.

[up][up] ... Good point.

There's probably going to be some ancient mystery to do with the Remnant that is the real cause of all the shit that's going on, and you're gonna have to go around to all these vaults or whatever to find out what it is.

I'd like for a ringworld to show up. There's Halo and then- what? I don't think I've seen another one in any modern games.

I just hope the Kett/this Archon guy doesn't end up like the Reapers. With hindsight, Sovereign and the Reapers were only perceived to be good villains because of how little we knew about them. I'm gonna be rolling my eyes if Bioware resorts to that little chestnut a second time.

Something I just notice and it's probably just art style, but the helmets used by the male Ryder in some shots looks very quarian in design - more pointy and about like with a longer visor.

I'm actually getting tempted to preorder this... PS 4 As I won't go with origin.

Oh and their lead Designer worked on Amalur apparently!

[up][up] I was tempted by the XBOX as all my other ME experiences were on there. But we got a PS 4 ages ago and never really got the Xbone after that, due to the "always online" early silliness. And really none of the exclusives on it tempt me. So no real need.

FYI, Origin Access is offering a seven-day free trial right now, "for a limited time" (no specific date given). And there will be a ten-hour Access preview for MEA on March 16.

[up]Hmmm. Tempting. I mean, i have Steam so that's ONE intrusive major PC piece of software.

My bug with origin is the pricing model it can exhibit for older games.

Still, very tempted. But need to crack Horizon first. And finish ME 3 Citadel (And the main story...)

I've got Access already, so I'm very pleased to hear that. Reminds me of when demo uses to be a thing.

[up][up]I should mention though that, having just initiated the seven-day trial myself, it only works if you sign up before March 7, so you can't access the Andromeda early access that way.

Still good news if you're currently paying the $4.99 a month for it though.

[up]Whaddya mean? Can I plays for 7 days starting Mar 16 because I have Origin Access, or do I have to "initiate" something first?

If the free trial period is seven days, it'll be over before the access period for MEA starts.

I don't think MEA is on access. Battlefront and Battlefield 1 wasn't for a good while, for instance.

The full game, I mean.

No, what I mean is the preview is for Access subscribers only starting on the 16th, while the 7-day free period has to be started by the 7th. The full game won't be on Access either way.

[up]Yeah, that.

Game Informer impressions: more of the same from the previous impressions (fun gameplay, crappy character animations, good-looking environments, etc.), with the added caveat that the reviewer craps all over Liam and Cora.

Liam is "kinda Kaidan-esque, just found him uninteresting". Then again he only had a few hours.

Cora's "sassy, she's got this Ruby Rose thing going on... she's Jack-esque, sorta a badass with biotic powers". When asked if she was less annoying than Jack, the reviewer just responds "uh, um..." until asked another question and then trails off.

EDIT: Also the reviewer says the gunplay is 'meh' because "the guns just feel like peashooters" and "it feels like you're shooting bullet sponges" compared to Mass Effect 3. That's a bit worrying. I've always thought the guns felt like that since the first gameplay trailer.

See, he called Jack annoying, so I already think his opinion is bullshit.

[up][up] Based on the latest initiative video, the Mass Effect: Andromeda Black Widow does 576 damage. Assuming that this is scoped damage to body, and that health numbers mean as much here as they did in Mass Effect 3, than Black Widow got nerfed by factor of 5 (!!!) - it did 2904 damage.

Why? They did the same thing in DAI, reduced the damage and sense of impact compared to the previous game. It's not an MMO, it doesn't have to have grindy, repetitive combat that drags out the length of the game. MM Os don't have to be that way either, but whatever, that ship's sailed, but that's still no reason to import that bullshit elsewhere.

Jack was initially a bit grating for me, but that may have been the design and the fact she wore nothing on toxic planets other than a rebreather.

Meat sack enemies are a worry, but in the videos sniper rifles do seem to have punch. There isn't much sense of feedback in the guns so far, but at least there's a little less MMO flow than Inquisition.

remember, the enemies in earlier games weren't exactly one-shot-one-kill either...

True, but you could stagger them. It didn't feel like they were just soaking up bullets, so much as you were wearing them down.

I suppose I'll find out for myself soon, though.
