Greetings, Troper Hivemind. First off, I'd just like to say that I've been a troper for a couple years now but never really posted on the forums, so I'm not ENTIRELY sure what to expect, but I'm hopeful - if the trope entries are any indication - that it's a fun, informative, and helpful community.

I seek your endless knowledge on a matter concerning a video game I played a long time ago that I just can't remember. I looked for it here and in The Other Wiki but simply couldn't find it. I remember the game itself vividly, it's just the name that eludes me.

I know the following facts:

1) The game is a turn-based strategy game.

2) The art style is eastern while the setting is medieval.

3) It's 16-bit.

4) Combat takes place on a large, square-grid battleground with various terrain types, even varying elevation. Units have types like "soldier", "ninja", and "knight". There's even magical beasts like rocs, basilisks, and yes, even dragons.

5) It has a defined and typical fantasy story, with your character - whom I remember has blue hair (no, it's not Marth and I'm positive the game's not Fire Emblem) - being the protagonist. One part I distinctly remember is that there's a prologue wherein your character is about to embark with his friend and fellow commander to a faraway land, but before they embark, a fortune teller stops him and reads his fortune. You get to decide what the fortune is, though I didn't play it long enough to find out if it genuinely impacted the story or game in any way. I also remember that the first fight takes place on a rocky shore. It is raining heavily.

I also remember the music that played during the battles, but... well, obviously I can't really -whistle- it into my post. That would be silly.

(PS: If any other troper remembers a game but not the name, by all means use this thread to describe it. I'm sure some of us have played enough to forget a few here and there.)

Welcome to the forums! There's occasional drama, but we're tolerable enough :P

We actually have a special function for this called You Know That Show. You can find it here.

This thread could be retooled instead of being deleted... Tropers, are there any games from your own childhoods you haven't thought about in ages? We could turn this thread into one of nostalgia.

Here's a weird one I remember: Sango Fighter. It's a Chinese-made Street Fighter 2 clone starring characters from Romance Of The Three Kingdoms. I'm serious.

That sounds pretty awesome, actually.

I used to play Warioland 2 all the freaking time. I lost the cartridge years ago though, and recently remembered it long enough to use it to test a GB/C emulator for DS.

[up]If you're interested, it's available for download on the developer's website. Properly translated, unlike the version from the 90's.

[up][up][up][up] I owned one of the registered copies of the first one (my mother handled the phone conversation because the fellow on the other side of the line spoke very bad English). Never really got into the second one, probably due to the difficulties of lack of translation (I picked up that copy off of Home Of The Underdogs, which also sported rumors that the developers were planning on a 3D version).

The websites for the updated re-releases: Sango Fighter and Sango Fighter 2. Funny bit of history, the people running that sight are also the new Super Fighter development team, a property whose company blocked the release of Sango Fighter 2 in the US.

I'd forgotten all about Digimon World until someone on the Nuzlocke forums started doing a screenshot run of it. Man, the memories... Sure, it wasn't a particularly great game by any stretch of the imagination, but still.

The mention of Warioland 2 reminded me of how obsessed I was with the original Warioland on Gameboy Color. It's one of the few games I've ever come within a hair of 100% Completion; I unlocked every level (including the secret bonus floating ice continent thing) and found nearly every treasure.

[up][up]I wish they'd release the first three Digimon Worlds on PSN...I owned all three for the PS 1, and now all three discs don't work anymore...I also wish they'd localize the Adventure game for PSP, but that's extremely unlikely. Sigh.

Here's another super-obscure one I remembered today: The Space Bar. It's basically a point-and-click game set in a bar like the Star Wars one. You're a cop trying to catch a killer, but he's a shapeshifter so he could be any of the patrons. You go around questioning folks to find out who might be the crook. It's one of those PC games that became unplayable when Windows got too advanced, so it's mostly obscure today.

Oh yeah, that one. Suffered from poor sales and what not. It was obscure even back then.

"Sengoku 3" is probably the best belt-scrolling Beat 'em Up ever released, but never received much fanfare because it was released at the tail-end of the genre. Five ninjas, tons of zombie samurai and a in-depth combo system. What not to love?

Got another one from my childhood. It's the Dinotopia point-and-click adventure.

For some reason I remember finding Enit much more impressive when I was five.
