Not sure. Basic Fallout 4 is listed as 30 gigs. Far Harbor and Nuka World were together about 35 gigs plus some change for the other DLC.

That sounds about right for the vanilla Fallout plus DLC in general.

Ok just checked how much I am using up on my console right now. Base Fallout 4, all the DLC, and nearly 2 gigs of mods nets me 43.9 Gigs of used disk space.

I think your going to be surprised for consoles at least. I have noticed my file sizes suddenly looked a lot smaller lately.

Original Fallout 4 was 30 gigs flat. Current vanilla version is 32 gigs.

Ok dug around my storage and found just over 2 gigs of reserved space for the mods plus 101 megs for my saves plus all of the DLC brings it to about 45 gigs. So literally I am not finding any used space on my console for the CC junk. That is kind of weird. I am certain the 2 gigs are already accounted for in the expanded original file size.

I deleted my game in horror after my total Fallout 4 storage went from 60 gigs to ninety.... I barely have any mods. You know what? I bet it's bigger on PC because Hi-Res textures packs.

Yeah, there's no sign of these 90 phantom gigs people are talking about on my system.

I'm wondering if there's a factor in my favor for blocking those.

I'm not taking the risk of reinstalling the game just to find out if Howard and Hines' pet scheme is still screwing with me.

It's bad enough at the moment playing Oblivion without knowing which mod is blowing the game up because no usable crash log.

After experimenting I'd like to apologies for spreading fake news. The reason the file size bloats to 90 gb is the high rez texture pack which can be uninstalled by unchecking the dlc in steam. While the creation club still auto downloads to your computer it's nowhere near the size I thought they were, its mainly the bad high rez texture pack. Without it downloaded and owning all the dlcs the file size is around 50 gb.

What the SHIT kind of hi-res pack makes the game double in size? Eugh.

Yeah, even I didn't bother downloading it after seeing how huge the files were. And yes, sadly the modding community has already put out superior texture mods... though they're still awfully large and resource-intensive though.

Okay, that makes MUCH more sense. Yeah, it's still a stupidly big texture pack, but at least they're not trying to force you to download things they want you to pay for. Someone would have hacked that on day one to get everything for free.

This is the big reason I stick with Dwarf Fortress. It's growing with every year, letting us do more with it, and because it's a top down tile view, it's really very small. Way less than even a gig when you download it. I know most people need 3D these days. I can understand and accept that, but you've gotta see the advantage in keeping things simple.

I'm sure if Bethesda downgraded back to Morrowind times in their graphics, they could afford to make their worlds deeper rather than playing Disney games with us. I know it won't happen. It doesn't need to to maintain my loyalty. I'm just saying, if we backed off on this "MOAR GRAPHICS NOW!!!" train we're on, we could see the games get bigger and deeper for about the same costs.

Well that does make a lot of sense. I think the reason the high res texture pack is so huge is that it is replacing a lot of textures. I also noted in the Mods listings some authors include a high res and lower res versions of their mods. The high res ones are almost always larger by a notable degree. Now do that for an entire game.

What the SHIT kind of hi-res pack makes the game double in size? Eugh.

Most of them do actualy, textures and sounds are the two largest part of videogame sizes.

Which is why high-res packs are sometimes seprate, because those devs have realized not every one wants 60-100gb of videogame for something they aren't going to use.

Titanfall 1 for instance drops from 68gb down to 23gb if you remove the high-res textures, and compress the audio. (most do this, but this is the only one I can remember the exact numbers for off the top of my head)

That's significantly different than jumping up to 90+ gigs. that's a not insignificant amount.

Not proportionately. The base game is 30 Gigs for this one. 68 is just shy of 3x23, and 90 IS 3x30. It adds up.

Yup, its important to remember that every time you double the dimensions of the textures, say from 512x512 to 1024x1024 or 1024x10124 to 2048x2048 you multiply the file size by 4.....

And most of a games size is texture and audio assets..... (they would be 1-2gb if you striped the art and audio.....)

Edit: Just checked, the base game textures total 15gb.....

Multiply that by 4, and the texture pack should clock in at 60gb.

Now I can play this on my PC. Not any nice settings but more like low-medium settings. Good enough looks to not distract too much and decent frame rates in general. Throw in my usual tweaks like killing the performance hating shadows and some of the lighting effects and I get a decent boost to my overall performance again.

I a have been tinkering again and before I poke at this particular system how hard are the mod tools to use? I did some light weight modding in Skyrim using community and Beth tools.

Meh, don't worry too much about the graphics. Even on the ultra settings or with the HD textures installed Fallout 4 looks rather sub-par.

[up]Must be system related. Mine's rev-limited at 60fps for Fallout 4, with errytin' turned all the way up, and it looked gorgeous. As for modding? Well, from experience, I wouldn't bother. Bethesda keeps releasing patches which break mods, particularly ones which require scripting support, and I just gave up.

Though if you do want to dive into that pool, have a look at this:

The few mods I've installed work fine so far, but that's probably because none of them really dig too deep into the game's code or bring massive changes to the game world. And no, none of them are graphical overhaul mods... the size of those suckers are huge, and as Tam said they tend to be glitchy at times.

And for the baseline game graphics... well, everything else except for the textures looks great. You might be right in that it's some sort of odd technical glitch that's preventing the game from displaying the maximum resolution for textures, because most of the time either everything looks like it's been given too much of a glean-ish, reflective look, even to the point of having some sort of odd "mirage/shield" look at the corners of objects, or just looking seriously waay below what the quality of what you'd expect at max settings.

It gets tricky in that some of these objects apparently do look like ass no matter what. Both on Nexusmods and some video comparisons, I've seen more than a few objects or textures in the game world that are indeed low-res and have no higher resolution setting. My guess is that it's due to Bethseda either running out of graphical artists time, or not believing the extra GB required to store all those extra art assets is worth the hassle of implementing.

EDIT: Guys... apparently I screwed up by opening up the other hidden entrances to Vault 88, because now I'm getting raiders appearing all over that monster of a Vault. I read online (albeit far too late) that the issue could be avoided by not removing the obstructions or locked doors leading to those exits, but I've progressed too far in the game to want to jump back multiple hours worth of progress.

So.... do you know of any workarounds to prevent the raiders from those additional entries? Or am I just gonna have to mod them into oblivion?
