To be fair, Bethesda only has two games that let you use the old fashion system. Otherwise you screamed "RUMORS!!" or IMPERIAL CITY!! at NP Cs. Morrowind and Oblivion had little dialog options.

Going to the Commonwealth, are we? Super high-tech stuff and evil asshattery afoot?

Chao, front and center. You're first to drop into that hell.

I'm strongly doubting most of this is true

But I'm gonna be so mad if certain parts are (only male, voiced protagonist, only ten years after Fallout 3)

So I watched the trailer today. I'm beginning to suspect those early rumors about the protagonist being someone from before the war who was cryo-freezed who wakes up and goes and does stuff might be true.

wild mass guessGiven what look like gameplay (and not cinematic) footage of the pre-war world, I think that the game will open with an Action Prologue as the bombs fall as your character makes his/her way to Vault 111, where they're frozen as part of the experiment. And then someone will wake you up, but everyone else in the Vault that was frozen has died except for you. Cue screams of agony because your spouse and kid were in there too.wild mass guess

I'm speculating of course. Boston should be cool, but I'd have preferred something out West. Oh well. I am a bit peeved the PC is apparently a Vault-Dweller though. I liked the Courier for having no background whatsoever, so I could imagine that he/she actually had experience in the wastes and wasn't some messiah kid that just discovered the rest of the world and has a knack for survival.

Never played the Fallout Series but always wanted to and I decided to wait until the new game was around to jump in. Now that Fallout 4 is here, where should I start? I've been mostly eyeing Fallout 3 and New Vegas since they seem to be the general idea of where the series is headed. Where should I start?

Play New Vegas.

If you like the lore and the setting, consider trying the first two, though keep in mind that they are very much products of their time.

If you just like faffing about and exploring, I guess you could play Fallout 3. I guess.

Of note, I noticed that one of the cities seems to be Diamond City (one of the signs hanging about) and, in the house's closet is a box that reads 'Mr. House'.

The two don't affect each other much at all, in terms of story anyway. New Vegas is more interesting and entertaining and the world feels more interactive. Even though they run on the same engine, you actually feel like your decisions make a difference in NV whereas once you finish a quest in 3 nothing else really comes of it. Finish a quest in NV and a whole base might now be empty and occupied by enemy forces, making their threat seem more real.

Fallout 3 is a much simpler (and arguably boring) good versus evil story that acts like it's more meaningful than it really is with Bible references and stuff. Gameplay-wise they're probably equal, though NV has better weapons. And better...everything, really. But 3 is still worth a go.

So much bullshit in that reddit post I dont know where to start.

He did not work at BGS though, does not even seem to get how development works.

Like I said, it's definitely bullshit. But I'm just so ready to be disappointed with this.

Its bullshit. DLC isn't planned that far ahead in development. DLC is usually designed and created once the game has gone Gold; all content of the base game and assets have been created and its just bug fixing from then on out. DLC keeps the content creators; writers, modelers, and occasionally even Voice Actors depending on the production, DLC keeps them working during that off period.

However, the number of DLC Packs usually is determined by sales of the initial product; Dragon Age: Origins sold very well and got lots of DLC packages to fill out its content to a good 40 aditional hours for some people. Borderlands 2 had an initial set of 4 under its Season Pass and that got extended to... what? 7 DL Cs total because the game was so popular? Fable 3, on the other hand, did poorly and didn't get very much DLC content and only a single Story based one.

Probably the ONLY exception I've really seen to this is Batman: Arkham Knight where the Season Pass was announced with all their content and its A TON of content.

Rewatching the trailer more closely, yeah there's a scene of people lined up trying to get into the Vault with a Vault-Tech billboard in the background and US military people in power armor guarding a gate and keeping people out. Also judging by the focus on the vertibirds and the giant airship, I'm hoping we'll finally get some vehicles in this one to play with. Just go full Mad Max here.

Also, it bugs me that every Ink Spots song begins with those same couple of notes. Still great music though, but literally every song.

Yeah, that was like their trademark.

Also, like... man, it really annoys me that only three games have used The Ink Spots. Either commit to the pattern or don't even try!

This image excites me

It is probaly too much to ask for, but I really hope that power armor is finaly treated like the machine it is, and not just fancy clothing.

Agreed.

Power armour should, in my opinion, not be something you can keep running constantly. It should expend some resource or fuel (Maybe energy weapon ammo?). And it should slow you down way more than it already does when it's out of fuel. Like, you should basically be unable to move if your power armour has no energy.

[up]Unless you have a high enough strength stat or something? Inwhich case you can move around just fine when it has no energy?

Eh... maybe. But that strength requirement should be, like, 10.

Power Armour basically weighs half a car.

Power armor is more like a full blown Mini-Mecha than a superpowered suit.

I could see a late game option to get a breeder modification from your power armor to give it a permanent power supply.

Well, Power Armour should already be pretty late game, but yeah, that could be an option as well.

Actually, now that I think about it, there was a mod that basically did this for New Vegas. Powered Power Armour.
