I tend to listen to "Why Should I Love You?", all the while avoid listening to "Eat The Music". And while "And So Is Love" is ok, I don't like the Eric Clapton solo.
I think Hounds Of Love stands a lot in people's minds because it has a more cohesive and obvious structure (which has two different sides connected by a single theme) than The Dreaming and, of course, far poppier songs ("The Big Sky", "Running Up That Hill").
Hounds of Love is good and all, but it just feels weaker. I dunno, I like every song on it when I hear it, but I don't wanna listen to it as an album like I do The Dreaming. "Running Up That Hill", "Hounds of Love", "Cloudbusting"...all fantastic. But the second half...I just don't remember "And Dream of Sheep" or "Watching You Without Me". The last three songs are great, though.
Yeah I'm a bit like you on that, I like to listen to Hounds of Love from time to time and it's still an excellent album, but it's far from The Dreaming in terms of sheer number of plays for me. I've listened to The Dreaming so many many times it's one of the albums I can practically sing note-for-note in my head, and I just don't feel like doing that with Hounds.
And that's quite a statement considering how much I usually love concept albums.
I think regardless of what tracks you prefer, the album is definitely too long. So yeah I'd advise anyone who thinks this album isn't top notch to pick out their least favorite tracks and just create their own edit of the album. Imo the album is better off for it. I have to say it's usually not something I advise, but here, I think it works in its favor.

You are standing in an open field west of a white house, with a boarded front door. There is a small mailbox here. The Dreaming feels like a concept album without actually being one.
Aerial is a double album. And The Red Shoes is actually longer than Hounds of Love (which is a solid 47 minutes - Red Shoes is 55 minutes).
Don't forget that Kate, despite not being in Progressive Rock, was friends with some of the guys associated with the stuff (from David Gilmour to Gary Brooker from Procol Harum). So, the length of her albums has been generally ok with her.

Hounds of Love feels longer than it is.
Actually The Red Shoes is the only album in her entire discography where I think it's too long. I'm fine with every other one, Aerial included (I think the double-album concept works well, and the second cd in particular is brilliant).
You are standing in an open field west of a white house, with a boarded front door. There is a small mailbox here.Oh, and that reminds me: I can't listen to 50 Words for Snow as an album. With individual songs, it's fine, but altogether it's tough to listen to all in one go.
Well, this and the Billboard thread have persuaded me to see what's the hubbub... bub.
The Dreaming wins, no surprise. "Suspended in Gaffa" grabs you immediately, like someone mentioned already. Probably because it encapsulates her so well. I might've skipped past "Pull Out the Pin" if not for the chorus of IIIIIII RUV ALIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIVE!!
I can take or leave Hounds; "Cloudbusting" and "The Big Sky" are great, though. The Red Shoes (1993) is actually not that bad, it's just the most generically 80's of the albums.
"I don't wanna be your rubber band girl", tho. How can you hate that? "Top of the City" is awesome.
I'm starting on her later, new age-y stuff now.

I'm a skeptical squirrel"Pull Out The Pin" sounds cool. I like the guitar.
Which is kind of hilarious when you take the release date in consideration. But yeah as I said it's far from a bad album, it just faces hard competition when compared against the rest of her discography.
And yes Top of the City is one of my favorites from it too.

I was listening to The Dreaming earlier this week and...yes! Still an excellent album from start to finish!
Confirmed Bachelors: the dramedy hit of 1883!I KNOW RIGHT
The only song I don't really like is "All The Love".
Sorry to doublepost, but has anyone heard that "Kate Boosh" song? What was the point of the sample?
By who?
(listens)
Nyyyeeeeh.
I've heard worse sampling, but not by much.
I'm a skeptical squirrelCan someone clarify me?
Some fellow sampled the post-chorus part of "Suspended in Gaffa" ("not till I'm ready for you"). The song is called "Kate Boosh", and that's literally the only allusion to her.
It suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuucks.
I'm a skeptical squirrelIt's not great.
Though they at least picked a really good song. "Suspended in Gaffa" is brilliant.
KATE BUSH RELATIONSHIP SETTING GET
The beat to "Kate Boosh" is pretty good, but I'm not really a fan of the actual rapping. But then again, it's apparently part of a mixtape instead of an official proper album and should probably be taken in that context.
Here is a Kate Bush sample I like, by the way.
What about "Something Good"? "Cloudbusting" is good.
Get Out of My House is fucking fantastic, man. One of the most perfect album closers period, if you ask me.
Although I'm probably biased since The Dreaming is my favorite from her, and probably her best album imo. Ask anyone though and they'll tell you her best is Hounds of Love. And, without meaning to dish out on Hounds of Love, because it is an outstanding album in its own right, that's a load of rubbish.
My favorites by her though are probably, in order, The Dreaming, Never for Ever and The Sensual World. But as said above, her whole discography is worth listening. There is not one dud in there. Sure there are a couple of lesser albums, for example for the longest of time I wasn't very hot on The Red Shoes, but I've gained a new appreciation for it when I noticed that it's just that the album itself is overlong : an easy fix for me now is just to get rid of the last three songs entirely (Big Stripey Lie, Why Should I Love You? and You're the One), as for me they are by far the weakest on there, and by doing that the album is pretty damn near perfect for me (because there's still plenty to love on this record, I mean Top of the City, Song of Solomon, Lily, The Red Shoes, And So is Love, hello ?).
