This is the alien conspiracy theory thread.

I think the Betty and Barney Hill abductions seem too real to be fake. I don't see why they would fake it; they never seeked a ton of publicity.

While I believe in aliens in the sense that the universe is too big for it to be bereft of life, I don't think that those abduction stories hold much weight. :p Plus, I don't really think that there is much reason for aliens to go about human contact in this way.

Unless they're a bunch of alien teenaged douchebags who are just messing with people. Which is entirely possible.

I definitely think that aliens exist.

Whether they've made contact with us or not is questionable. If they have, I figure they look at how primitive and worthless the human race is and have moved on. We're still killing each other over stories written in books thousands of years ago.

Yes, but I doubt aliens are much better. :p Just cause they got Interstellar Travel doesn't mean they're smarter than us. :3

In any case, I expect them to find us weird in the sense that they're aliens, and thus'd be really freaking different. :o Like, a sentient fusion reaction or a self-aware ecosystem or something. Or as a less out-there example, some sort of non-carbon base or something.

I'm surprised it took this long for someone to make a thread like this.

wild mass guessFast Eddie is an alien and keeps shredding threads like this as soon as they appear to keep the truth from letting out, but he accidentally let this one slip through the cracks and now too many people have seen it for him to do a damn thing about it!wild mass guess

I'll have to side with Zersk here, though that is a very interesting account you linked. I hadn't heard that one before, and it was pretty damn interesting.

Also, just going to point this out, but aliens existing =/= said aliens are more advanced than humans, necessarily. They might be, but then again, there's always the possibility that we're the advanced ones (even if we aren't so advanced ourselves) and they're the ones who aren't quite there yet. You never know.

Dang it you people type fast. :o

Aliens, practically if they ever made contact with us, I'd give it a few years before war breaks out.

Because my view of humanity is as thus: Somewhere, someone is going to have a brilliant xenophobic idea to shoot an alien, when the tension of first contact is still around.

Either that or fighting over resources. Though I doubt Aliens would want our Oil... Eco-Aliens want our alternative fuels?

If we're going to meet any alien life at all in the galaxy, I'd quite like it if they were like the Selenites though, weak compared to us physically and lacking a concept of war.

It's okay! :3

Ooh, you know what's cool? :o Xenobioogy and stuff like that. :3 Like thinking of what kind of biology aliens would have on other planets and different atmospheres or around different stars and stuff. :o

Ah yes, Xenobiology. I concur, learning the biology of an alien species is something I find enjoyable.

Good ol' Wells is excellent at that in my biased opinion.

I have no idea what you mean.

I think they are smarter than us. I think humanity is the shit-tier of all races in the universe.

We don't even have a universal government. We're still fighting over mundane issues. The obvious answer is to unify our resources and focus our efforts on science, but people are still hung up about people going to hell because they don't think the same things will happen after you die. We should be focusing our efforts for while we are alive, not on what may or may not happen.

Anyways, I think the McMinnville photos are evidence as well.

Xenobiology fascinates me too, though I am sadly lacking in most technical knowledge of how it would work. Though I do recall hearing some about silicon being a potential carbon equivalent due to how similarly it behaves. Any idea how silicon-based life would be different than carbon-based?

[up] Well, you're entitled to your opinion. We are admittedly pretty screwed up in some departments, but that doesn't mean that the sapient squid-people on Hyperion-6 are necessarily free of cultural conflicts either. Also, can we try to avoid turning this into a religion is evil/not evil discussion? Those kinda always end in flame wars from what I've seen. (Shifts glance to OTC)

Osloki: But why assume that any possible alien would be any better? :p

Leper: Yeah, Silicon's a common one to think about. :3 Partly it's because it has the same number of "slots" as a carbon atom does to make molecules. :p But Carbon is a lot more common, which kind of helps it out a bit. :o

Other ideas include Chlorine instead of Oxygen, or Methane instead of Water I believe. :3

Also, have a Wikipedia page with all sorts of alternate biochemistries! :D

Silicone based life-forms could require nitrogen instead of oxygen. But then that could apply for anything.

They might be less flammable, no inherent fear of flames at all.

I dunno. :o Oxygen is good because it's so reactive. It needs that for synthesis of ATP and stuff, doesn't it?

I suppose at a different temperature or pressure level it could be used, but then it'd probably be flammable too. :p

Choose one.

What makes you think aliens would be interested in meeting other races?

Well I was talking about the skin being less flammable. It'd melt before burning I think. If I remember the properties of Silicone correctly.

But yeah, Oxygen seems like the good breathing gas.
