Hi there - I hope you don't mind my applying! I'm hoping that there aren't any glaring contextual/grammatical errors in my application that I failed to pick up on - it's been a long Christmas day! - Your Trainer's name: Sylvie Greystone

Age: 16-18 (NB: 18 would be school-aged 18, not university-aged 18)

Gender: Cis female

Ethnicity: White with Israeli influences from a maternal grandfather

Brief description of their appearance: Sylvie’s skin is quite pale, though it is not underpinned by a tendency to burn under harsh sunlight. She has dark hair with a reddish-brown undertone in certain, but not all lights. It is very thick and difficult to tame, so she doesn’t let it grow past the tops of her shoulder blades and keeps it in a messy bun so that it doesn’t get in the way. She has greyish eyes and an aquiline nose. She wears little makeup. She wears dark purple corduroy dungarees over a light cream shirt. Though she wears boots for practicality’s sake, she prefers heels.

Any ties to an organization (i.e Pokemon Rangers, regional evil team, many possibilities beyond those): Nothing too interesting, though she did do some work experience for the Goldenrod Radio Tower.

Region of origin: Johto, specifically Goldenrod City (or, more specifically, just on the outskirts of Goldenrod City: it’s a pain getting anywhere, but she can’t use it as an excuse for being late.)

Backstory: Sylvie had a pretty normal upbringing: the child of a single mother who is divorced quite amicably from her (Sylvie's) father, she has two older brothers, one very brash and one rather quiet. The result of constantly mediating between the two initially gave her a very placating disposition, but since realising that the constant arguments were stupid, she’s polished her angry parent voice, and is now a bonafide wizard at yelling at people. This came in handy at her first secondary school, a low funding inner-city school which left her behind academically (relatively speaking: she’s actually slightly ahead, but an average school might have put her a fair amount ahead), much to her dismay. The result, however, was that she has since had a tendency towards brashness and arrogance. This has not been a huge issue at her new school, a grammar school, but did put her in poor stead with the other students at her old school.

Because she is the youngest of three, and the only girl, her mother can be very protective, and when – in 2014 – she did her work experience at the radio station, it took several charts and her middle-brother acting as her attorney (he is not qualified to be an attorney) to convince her that it was perfectly safe for her to attend. She succeeded, and to her dismay she was a fairly average worker. Now, she is aware that she wants to be significant in the world. She doesn’t know how this would happen, she just knows that it’s what she wants.

Nickname: Lombardy

Gender: Female

Ability: Pure Power

Personality/Bio: A hard worker, but probably couldn’t defeat a Monstrous Machamp. She’s sort of the opposite to Sylvie; where Sylvie is constantly striving to be something, Lombardy is perfectly happy just to be. As a result, she’s very good at calming Sylvie down when the need arises – which is why Sylvie was given a meditative Pokémon rather than a Pokémon like Beedrill (also, she’s scared of bees, which is another reason why nobody gave her a Beedrill.)

Species: Graveler

Nickname: Pavye

Gender: Male

Ability: Sturdy

Personality/Bio: This fine young man came from Sylvie’s oldest brother’s building site to make sure that Sylvie stays in line. Where Lombardy favours meditation and martial arts, Pavye will do what needs doing to get a job finished. Would probably respond to a Pompous Popplio with indifference. - Timezone is GMT (London, Dublin)

AVMabs' Test

Congratulations, Sylvie Greystone! As you are going along, you are spotted by a Combee who's carrying a mug somehow and which starts to head in your direction, looking like they're shaking the mug insistently. What do you do?

Please respond to this situation as you would if it occurred in the RP.

For a short moment, Sylvie was afraid - some Combee evolved into Vespiquen, and if this one... She quickly shook the thought from her mind: she was a trainer, and if her brothers hadn't been scared out of the business by something as stupid as a bee, she wouldn't be either.

She stroked a lazy thumb over one of the Poké Balls in her bag.

Sylvie: On guard, Meditite.

She hoped that her voice wasn't shaking like she thought it was - how embarrassing. She took one step forward, and then stood as still as possible, staring down the mug-shaking protobee with as much resolve as possible. Could protobees smell fear like normal bees? Sylvie hoped not.

Sylvie: A Combee!

- is the sort of confident tone Sylvie felt she should have taken, but she did not.

Sylvie: A-Ah!... Comb_b-bee

AVMabs' Test

-The Combee notices Sylvie's nervous tone and shakes their head-

-They float closer to Lombardy-

Combee: <Excuse me, could you spare some honey?>

A part of Sylvie relaxed as she watched the Lombardy listening to the Combee - the Combee didn't want to fight - it just wanted honey... which, Sylvie realised after a moment, she did not have.

Sylvie: (out of the corner of her mouth) Put up a light screen just in case, Lombardy - be discreet.

She paused a moment - just until she was certain the screen was up - and then let her gaze rose back up to the Combee.

Sylvie: I don't have any honey

She paused, afraid that the Combee might become angry. She added a hasty:

Sylvie: I could give you Berry Juice?

AVMabs' Test

-The Combee gives a look of derision-

Combee: <Ha! Berry Juice is an inferior substance to honey! I think not!>

-There is silence for a bit-

<Make it two and we're good.>

As the silence fell around them, Sylvie could feel her heart beating down over her dry tongue. Was there silence just before a Pokémon evolved? Just before a Combee evolved into a great, horrible Vespiquen -

but then the Combee made its request, and Sylvie's heart slipped back into her chest.

For a moment, Sylvie was very close to conceding. It would get the Combee away, and she would be able to go about her journey again. One chance to think about the Pokémon changed her mind, however: one Berry Juice for Lombardy, one for Pavye, and one spare. She could not give up two Berry Juices.

She dug her heels into the ground (which did not stop her from shaking).

Sylvie: I'll give you one, and that's all.

AVMabs' Test

Combee: <...Only one? The look on your face tells me you have more...>

<So I must take them from you!>

-The Combee begins vibrating their wings to make a shrill sound-

The noise was horrible. Sylvie's hands flew up to her ears as she winced. Her heart had definitely made its way back out onto her tongue.

For a second, she couldn't move at all, not even to glance at Lombardy.

Sylvie: Lombardy, u-use feint. Use feint.

As Lombardy swept forward, Sylvie finally looked at her properly. Lombardy's muscles were tense - the light screen mustn't have helped against the buzz as much as Sylvie thought: it wasn't like Lombardy to be tense. Sylvie could have kicked herself; she should have sent out Pavye, but she didn't, and now Lombardy was hurting (and so, for that matter, was she - the buzzing was still drifting around her).

Oh, to be clear, I'm pretty fond of your prose so far. I sometimes just don't stay stuff if I like stuff, so might as well make that clear

Sylvie winced against the buzzing again, but Combee wasn't the only one who was angry now: she was angry, too. She raised her voice over the noise.

Sylvie: I won't negotiate with you!

Too late, she spotted the extent of the damage Combee had done to Lombardy. Sylvie cursed under her breath and dropped to her knees besides Lombardy to see if she was fainted or winded. It seemed that the former was true - and even if she wasn't, she wouldn't want to let Lombardy fight anymore, because another hit would certainly have knocked her straight out.

Hastily, Sylvie opened up Lombardy's Poké Ball and took her back in, already feeling around in her bag for Pavye's Poké Ball. She released Pavye and felt a wave of relief run over her; Pavye would be able to stand his ground.

Sylvie clenched her fists. She would not let a bee taunt her into giving up her stock of berry juice. Somewhere in the back of her mind, it occurred to her that it didn't matter, because Lombardy had fainted anyway, and berry juice wouldn't have any effect. She pushed that rational thought-train right down. The Combee was dumb and unreasonable, and she wasn't going to let it have two berry juices if she had to protect it herself.

Sylvie: Pavye, use Rock Throw!

Her heart thrummed with excitement as Pavye lumbered forwards ('lumber' is perhaps the wrong word; it implies that Pavye was stupid or unrefined, which he was not, but he did nonetheless struggle to move gracefully with his leg-body ratio). This would teach that Combee, she thought.

No worries

-The Combee is struck by the Rock Throw-

Combee: <I... You... Ngh...>

-They fall on the ground, fainted-

As Combee hit the ground, Sylvie's first instinct was to drop to the floor herself, or perhaps to turn on heel and run - but neither of those would do. Mostly because she was still too scared to move much more than a few inches at a time. She began to root through her bag, making sure to suck in enough air to keep herself from actually passing out. When she finally found what she was looking for, she held it out to Pavye.

Sylvie: Do you think you could just - put this near Combee? For when it wakes up? We did have a deal.

Pavye complied, returning to Sylvie directly after planting the promised berry juice by the Combee's wings. Sylvie sighed, finally regaining her faculties enough to move, and turned to Pavye.

Sylvie: Come on. Pokémon Centre.

• Name: Brad but goes by Light now.
• Age: Young Adult (23-25).
• Gender: Cis Male.
• Ethnicity: White with Italian blood.
• Appearance: Tall, stocky, big everything. Big hands, big feet, big legs, big arms. Peachy skin tone, black, shaggy, uncombed hair, short bushy beard, tealish eyes, a long, light scar running from forehead to the end of his right cheek. Wears gray closed sandals, black jeans, a black belt with a silver shade metal buckle, a purple T-shirt that reads in red lettering "I <3 Pokemon and Pokemon <3 Human's", a red open trench coat, a medium size red backpack, and a set of thin black glasses.
• Any ties to an organization: No but he does have a personal faith based on the Vow.
• Region of origin: Heahea City, Alola.
• Backstory: Growing up Heahea City, young Light once lived by a differen name with a different life. All across his home they believed in tradition and with tradtition comes myths and ledgends. All the time he would be given tale after tale about Totem Pokemon and stuff about Sun and Moon Pokemon of great power. Personally, he didn't believe any of it and he gained a skeptical eye about such manners. At the age of 18, he set off on his Trainer journey (he started later because lack of financially security nor professor connections.) and well.......he failed. Alot. He couldn't even catch a dam starter! And so, after two years of trying his best, he quit and came back home defeated and started regular work. All the while though, he studied everything about Pokemon and learned of the Vow. At first, he didn't believe it like every other fairy tale but after reading all he could about it, he felt a certain truth about it and had a enlightenment moment. Man doesn't use Pokemon as their slaves because Pokemon want to be close to man and Pokemon don't use human's for survival because human's use them to thrive. The two "evolve" together. Soon afterwards, he took the name of Light and went back on his Trainer adventure. This time not with the goal not to become the very best there ever was, not to use Pokemon to get rich or famous. He set out with the goal to become one with the mon, to show love and kindness to those wonderful creatures that were harmed by cruel humans, to help make bonds between Trainers and their mon's. With this goal, he found his starter and his path to his happiness.......

• First (Starter):
  • Species: Mimikyu.
  • Nickname: Heart
  • Gender: Male.
  • Ability: Disguise.
  • Personality/Bio: Light found the little guy not long after his new Trainer adventure started but unfortunately, it wasn't in a good light. He was being attacked by a man with a knife who felt that the shy mon was a vile monster. Wanting to protect it, Light got the scar on his face but was able to drive the scum away. Flashing a heart to Light, the shy creature joined him wllingly and was dubbed Heart for his action, which he loves to do those he feels close to someone. He's shy around most but can be very cheeky and energetic around Light and will always try to protect him because he owns that Light will do the same. But violent humans scare him to no end and getting him scarred is a one way ticket to him panicking.

• Second:
  • Species: Stufful
  • Nickname: Grandma
  • Gender: Female
  • Ability: Fluffy
  • Personality/Bio: Next, I found this Stufful who was kicked out from it's pack because of her old age, which I learned when I brought it to a Pokemon Center to heal up her wounds and such. Even at that age, it still wanted a battle. Silly old bear. Heart fought her with everything he had and she was tough. Lot's of time to get good. Eventually she accepted her defeat and joined my team. She, like all Stuffnul, hates being touched and will generally knockdown anyone who does that. Otherwise, she act's like a mon of her age: slower, leads the rest of Light's team with her wisdom, likes to conserve her energy with napping. She also likes to knit, though that has problems considering no thumbs. She likes to help Heart with his costume. Sometimes, Light actually saw her knit Heart's name into the tag of the costume. He didn't like that much.

• Third:
  • Species: Grubbin
  • Nickname: Little Thug
  • Gender: Male
  • Ability: Swarm
  • Personality/Bio: Now, Little Thug was a fun one. He was the head of a group of back alley Pokemon that were pushing around the other weaker mon's in the city. Of course, Light wanted to stop that and of course, the cocky Grubbing wanted to fight Grandma and Heart. He lost but not without a fight. Gaining a new found respect for Light, he willingly got captured. He act's like he's big stuff and likes to push around Heart and other "weak" Pokemon, but Grandma usually gives him a dope slap for that. He treats Light like the big boss and will always follow any command of his commands to the letter. Too bad he's not a bright one and his command was only because he had strength and numbers on his side.

• Four:
  • Species: Fomantis
  • Nickname: Princess
  • Gender: Female
  • Ability: Leaf Guard
  • Personality/Bio: Light found this diva of a flower while during a nature hike he wanted to do. She was trapped inside a cave and was growing weaker from the lack of sunlight. Light carried her out of the cave while all his other Pokemon fought them away. She then joined his team willingly at that point. She is the princess of the group and demands to be treated as such. Her and Little Thug fight because of this but Heart has a little crush on her and serves her to be the of his ability. Grandma of course loves to tease him because of that but she finds Princess spoiled and is always trying to make her more mature.

• Five:
  • Species: Wishiwashi
  • Nickname: The Collective
  • Gender: Agender
  • Ability: Schooling
  • Personality/Bio: Light got this army of fishes during a stay at hotel in which he found Legion on the beach, covered with trash. Getting the trash off of him, Legion wanted a battle, angry at human's for doing this to him and his kind. This fight was long and filled with many foes but Legion ran out of allies to group and thus accepted Light's capture. These fish refers to itself's to themselves with nongender terms like we, us, ourselves but it doesn't mind being called it. When there Schooling, Legion is a confidante, intimidating force who will rip to shreds anyone who tries to hurt any of Light's another Pokemon, who they think of being part of there School. When not Schooling, the lone fish becomes timid and afraid, looking for support from the other mon's to protect itself. Legion and Little Thug have a close friendship, Little Thug liking Legion because of it's ability to lead a group and it's great strength. Heart finds him scary but will support the long fish. Grandma is the one who can scold Legion when he's power mad.

The group is chaotic and alittle dysfunction but Light always has a spot in his heart for them and all of his mon's will protect each other and Light to the bitter end.

That's my sheet! I decided to do a more basic kind Trainer but I wanted to add a WAAPT spin to that by making his reasoning to act like that be the Vow. The Pokemon are alittle archetypal but I feel like that there good. I didn't use a 6 spot because I figured I should keep that spot open for future add on's, you know? Please, all criticism and feedback would be much loved. I see that you guys might not be in a moment where I can jump in, so I'm cool with waiting or whatever. I hope to have a test battle soon. :)

Okay, I see you read Every's Essay, but make sure to also read the Tone Essay carefully.

Also, one of us has a Wishiwashi with the name Legion planned already and we'd rather keep the One-Steve Limit across species, so mind coming up with a different name for them?

Other than that, though, looks fine!
