Well, if that's the case, sure.
Check out my fanfiction! It is a spoiler if you only know about the show from fanstuff, I guess. The only thing making Kamina a decoy protag is that he is more progonist-y. Simon is the viewpoint character from the very beginning.
Look, it doesn't even matter that it's a spoiler. More importantly, it's not illustrative. Unless you already know the trope, it doesn't tell you anything about it. Just a big guy and a little guy.
I dunno, the picture putting all of the emphasis on the decoy, while technically showing the main character too, displays this pretty well; the caption clears up any confusion, but it's pretty obvious which person the picture wants you to think is more important.
Moon◊Yeah, but unless you already know what Decoy Protagonist is, that doesn't mean anything.
I think it can be inferred that the one who is literally in the shadow of the other is meant to overtake the other and/or attempt to do so, it is pretty simple symbology. If I were going to illustrate a book about a man trying to live up to his father's name I might draw a picture in the same format, with the son standing in his father's shadow looking at him like that. The difference here is that instead of being out-of-focus (like the father would be in my example) the guy casting the shadow has a 'main character' sort of look to him, whic helps imply the decy protag thing. It is subtle, but it works.
Keep until better suggested.
It's not at all hard to grasp (even if the first paragraph is an Example as a Thesis) - the character the work wants you to think is the protagonist isn't actually the main character. The work clearly wants you to think Kamina is the main character, but also tosses in the actual main character Simon. I don't think this is harming the page.
Moon◊The clock's up and the crowner's pretty clear. The old pic and caption are restored and the tag is adjusted. Locking up.

Nominations for replacement images:
Yes, but a very, very small one, and one that you could figure out yourself by watching the first five minutes of the show.
