In the world of Renit, there has been only one constant. War. People fight over land, food, and survival.

For years, the Human Regency has been at war with the tribes of goblins scattered across the lands. The humans have good strategies, and powerful weapons, but the sheer force of number the goblins have mean they have been able to hold out.

In the year 384, a group of humans set out to colonise a small island, known as Elba. However, the isle is already home to a tribe of goblins.

The two forces immediately clashed, and the casualties were high. But the two sides were not stopped, and the fighting only continued. It has been five years since that first day... The humans are running out of food, and the even the plentiful forces of the goblins are running out.

I fear that this war has almost reached its end... But in its closing days, the worst parts of this battle are just beggining.

In the world of Renit, there is only one constant. War.

At the start, plot will be a simple capture the flag premises, but it will get thicker.

The areas teams will be fighting for:

  • The Port (Human Base, developed port city.)
  • The Orchard (Human, where the humans grow there crops and fruits. It and the port are surrounded by a high wall.)
  • The Ko'Hu Plains (No Mans Land, Large open plains)
  • Nar'Bo Forest (No Mans Land, thick forest, ideal for guerrilla warfare)
  • The Mine (No Mans Land, an abandoned human mine)
  • Ki'Bo'Sau Mountain Range (No Mans Land, serves as a natural border to the goblin lands)
  • Ner'Ka Kri'Sa (Goblin, a water clogged marsh that is hard for humans to cross, due to their non-amphibian nature)
  • Kri'Sa (Goblin Base, atop a large cliff)

Hello, and welcome to Elba! This is a new fantasy RP, which will have a dual-focus on interactions between captains, and conflict for land. Joining is simple. Just fill out a sign-up sheet, see if you're accepted, and start playing.

And now for the matter of rules. They will be enforced, and please, try not to break them.

Rules:

  • No auto hitting. None.
  • Like the above, no god-modding.
  • Don't spam the thread. Try and leave a gap of two or three other posts between you're own.
Those are all for the moment, but they're subject to change if needed.

Without further ado, the sign-up sheet model:

  • Species: Goblin or human.
  • Gender: This really shouldn't need explaining.
  • Age: For humans, you have the normal life span of about eighty years. Gonlins have a shorter one, reaching about forty.
  • Name: This should be pretty self explanatory. For help, take a look at the "Naming" section, found [down][down][down] [down]
  • Field Position: The part you're character will serve in battle. They are:
    • Infantry: The standard soldier. They don't have the best armour, but are fairly quick. They can have one weapon to specialise, and another as back up.
    • Cavalry: Similar to the infantry, but with faster movement, and slightly worse defence. You need to chose one weapon for you're speciality, and one for back-up. Humans will be riding horses, whereas goblins will be riding boars.
    • Generals: Generals have heavy armour and can take lots of damage. They can chose two weapon specialties, but don't have a back-up. The slowest of the units.
    • Medic: Medics are fast, and have light armour. They can take next to no damage, and it's imperative that they have other units to protect them. They only have one weapon specialty, and no back-up, but they can heal their allies on the field.
    • Mage: Mages are fast, and have decent armour to boot. However, they can't last very long in a fight due to the sheer energy it takes to cast spells. Outside of battle, your character will be spending a lot of time eating or sleeping to regain there energy between battles. Mages have an affinity for different elements. A fire Mage can manipulate fire, a water Mage can manipulate water, and so on. They can't create the element, just manipulate it. Aside from there affinity, Mages also get a dagger or a staff.
  • Weapon: Your specialty, and, if your class has one, your back-up. You can have daggers, staffs, crossbows, flails, lances, maces, swords, axes and bows. Your characters magic affinity also goes here, if you have one. For those interested in what elements you can control, a list:
    • Fire
    • Water
    • Earth
    • Wind
    • Shade
    • Ice
  • Appearance: What does your character look like?
  • Personality: What's your character like? What makes them happy, and what really ticks them off?
  • Background: What has your character gone through in their life? What has made them the way they are?
  • Other: Any thing else you feel needs a mention.

Feel free to propose new weapon types and new field positions.

  • Roger Ferguson (played by Nick The Swing)

Question: What would count as "elements"? Only air, water, fire and earth or some of the more exotic ones too? (Light, darkness, mental, ice etc.)

[up] A list for you:

  • Fire
  • Water
  • Earth
  • Wind
  • Ice
  • Shade

I was considering adding electricity, but considering that this is a fantasy setting, it wouldn't really show up much. The list has also been added to the sign-up sheet model.

Interested. I will likely do a Human Infantry [Pike and Bow] Captain.

Suggestions/Advice for naming and relevant background story?

Naming:For names, humans will have something not too far from the names of today. Think a bit Archaic and you're there.

Goblins are a bit different. In goblin naming there are three main letters: B, K and S. follow each of these with a vowel. So you could have something like: Ba, Ko or Si. With your first two letters, add two more, like Ku and Se, then put the three together like this: Ba'Ku'Se. This would be your characters first name. The second is the tribes name, which, on Elba, is Kri'Sa. So, your characters name in full would be: Ba'Ku'Se Kri'Sa.

As for back story advice, if your characters gonna be a Captain, I would suggest including a long military history. There's a Regal capital in the setting, which is basically human HQ. It's called Ormonde, if you want to include it as your characters training location or home place.

Besides that, work it out yourself. Feel free to create a town yourself if you feel the need, but run it through me first.

The one thing I have to put my foot down about is making a village on Elba. There's a small settled area known as the port, and that's it. They haven't really had time to develop further, you see, what with the fighting.

I'll have a go at this.

Name:Sora

Species: Human

Gender: Boy

Age: As the name suggests- hes quite young for a trained personel: I'd place it at around 14

Field Position: Mage

Weapons: He has a strong affinity for fire magic, this is what landed him in the military in the first place.

Personality: A bit of a spoiled kid, his pride is something he will go out of his way to defend. The fact that his is of a short stature doesn't really help and therefore expect him to be a bit of a hot head and rash with some decisions.

History: Discovered to have an exceptionally strong affinity for the fire element at a very early age he was brought into training for a mage position- the military then realised that they truely had a powerful mage in their hands...too bad that the mage had not even reached ten and didn't have the will to control his element. Now at the age of 14, Sora has turned into a promisingly powerful mage- still not able to fully control his element but he is still able to easily match in sheer power any veteran mage.

EDIT: I changed the name AGAIN.....oh,and his appearance is that of a small blonde haired boy, he is usually in white shirt and back pants. I removed the weapon.

So... Generals are just heavy infantry? Why not call them that?

Still, possibly going to be a goblin of some kind.

Generals are a bit more than just heavy infantry. They have a bit more strategic importance, and are kind of a leader to their troops.

Speeaking of strategic importance, if anyone wants to come forward with a character for the human Grand Mayor, feel free. The Grand Mayor watches over the plantation, and is basically the leader of the Human forces in Elba. The Goblin leader should be fine, as I plan to use him.

[up][up]Sora is accepted. Welcome to the game!

Interested. I'll probably make a goblin, but first I got some questions. First, well... what you've got written out doesn't really make it clear what the benefits are of most of the positions. It seems like if you wanted to make the "best" character, there's no real reason to be something other than a Mage since you get to be good at fighting and have crazy-awesome magic powers. Are the mundane soldiers screwed?

And what are the goblins? Are they like goblins from DND? And if so, shouldn't there be more stealth/assassination roles since they're so tiny they'd probably get clobbered in actual fights?

Oh, and are crossbows kosher?

And is your example for common goblin names the only naming scheme, or just the most common on Elba? I don't really like being constrained to eight letters in six total slots for naming my dude.

Oh, and I don't know what to put for the background. What's goblin society like? Like their government, family life, tribal structure, etc. You said the goblins have a "leader", but I don't want to assume generic tribal stuff and make a character with a backstory that doesn't work.

Of slight interest. What does shade magic do?

Stop caring and embrace nullness.

#11: Nov 27th 2012 at 4:02:22 AM

[up]Shade is shadows. It works anywhere there are shadows, but it's better in the dark.

[up][up] Feel free to make up your own first name, but the tribe name has to stay, or else he's not part of the tribe. I don't think magic is that overpowered. They get exhausted pretty easily, can't really take a hit, and if there's none if there affinity around there in trouble.

Goblins are about five foot tall. They're amphibians, with no noticeable male/female difference. There's a Chief in each tribe and everyone is beneath him. He gets most of the food and his pick of the women. Everyone else is equal, and get an equal share of the food.

Humans operate on a Regal system, like Britain.

  • Species: Human
  • Gender: male
  • Age: 25
  • Name: Roger Ferguson
  • Field Position: Mage

  • Weapon: A shortsword, Elemental Affinity Fire

  • Personality: He has a kindly personality, seeming like a jovial gentleman, offering advice without asking for anything in return, and making sure he is useful. He seems almost too cheerful, as if the battle going on for Elba is not exactly number one priority in his head. Indeed, it seems he has a very strange mind, being somewhat cuckoolander-ish. He has a strange style of speech, and talks at all times in a very disarming, friendly manner. You would be hard pressed to get him to be aggressive. However, there are hints he is keeping secrets.
  • Background: Roger claims he grew up in a very small village on the mainland, which had ended up destroyed by Goblins at some point. He doesn't seem that affected by it, though, and has come to Elba for reasons he is not willing to share. He does seem to have a very strong magical ability, despite his goofy attitude
  • Appearance: Roger is a young man wearing an overcoat with a symbol showing his magic affinity of fire on the back, a gray shirt, and black slacks, a pair of boots and apparently a lot of books kept in a backpack. This backpack seems to occasionally prove too heavy for him to lift. He appears to be a tall and wiry type. He has long light brown hair, black eyes, and could be described as "constantly smiling."

  • Species: Goblin
  • Gender: male
  • Age: 21
  • Name: Dra'kinau (kiu Srakhand) Kri'sa
  • Field Position: Mage
  • Weapon: A Copper Long Knife, Elemental Affinity Water
  • Personality: Son of the disbanded Khraisraud Clan who were dispersed by human arrival, Dra'kinau is bitter towards his human foes but knowledgable on them. Indeed, he is proficient at language and dialect and with a quick wit that would have suited him in fairer times to study in the path of a teacher or elder. However, war has blackened his heart and turned his intellect to spite. Magic once taught as the true manifestation of nature has become little more than another weapon in his fight against the human intruders, indeed, in every word he seeks weakness and strength and measures his own with great weight. As an ally he is cold but benign, he is ultimately very loyal to his ancestors and friends but is slow to consider anyone as such. To enemies, he is silent and stern, speaking only when need compels him, but his smile is a cause for great fear.
  • Appearance: The Khraisraud were known to were little, though light skirts were known amongst their number, anything further was burdenous to their amphibious nature. Dra'kinau keeps this traditions and stays by the sea. He leads the many of the remnants of his tribe and is marked by tatoos to show his station. Otherwise, he is not greatly remarkable, average height, unremarkable colouring for his people, though his eyes are slightly more sunken and his nose is smaller.

  • Species: Goblin
  • Gender: Male
  • Age: 20
  • Name: Dak'Keb'Hai Kri'sa
  • Field Position: Cavalry
  • Weapon: Bow, Flail
  • Personality: He's a very happy person, and enjoys the thrill of battle, of the hunt, of swimming, or of the game of stickball. He's used to being alone in the woods, waiting for hours on end for an animal* to step into view, so he's able to be patient when need be.
  • Background: Before the humans came, he was a hunter who chased after game with his trusty boar. When the humans came, his skill set made him excel at being a a scout and assassin for the goblins, while he became an expert with the flail in order to fight in the army. For the last five years, he's taken to hunting the most dangerous game.
  • Other: There was no "Appearance" thing so I thought I'd put it here. He's got dark yellow skin and is about 5'2" and 100 pounds. His boar, Pango, is nearly as tall as he is, and many times heavier. They've been together for a few years now, and have learned to work together.

Now that I think about it, crossbow seems kind of impractical for a mounted unit, so I'm going to just make it a regular vanilla bow.

Ok, so after noticing that three of four players have chosen Mage, I've taken Nmans suggestion that the Mage is overpowered to mind, and I've nerfed them a bit.

Mages don't get weapons anymore. Feel free to change class if you want to have a weapon.

Mages should all get staffs..or something they can use to help them in element manipulation.

Just an idea...

MusikMaestro from Ireland Since: Jul, 2012 Relationship Status: Heisenberg unreliable
#22: Nov 28th 2012 at 12:06:48 PM

Ok, staffs are in, but it would be a bit awkward, as Elemental manipulation needs both hands to run, which is why a dagger is helpful. Staffs would be more for if someone gets close to you.
