I like the concept and would love to be in one of your games... That came out wrong. The point is that I'm interested.
The graceless warrior, wielder of the edgeless blade, prophet of the old religions, writer of fluent nonsense, saviour of soul and song.I'm tentative since I'm trying to get back to the GM game with another one I'm putting up.
"Exit muna si Polgas. Ang kailangan dito ay si Dobermaxx!"Well, the only other RP I'm active in currently is also run by you, Strat (note to self: tell the Pokemon Conquest gang that they can use the characters I made pre-reboot as NP Cs if they wish to), and while I've never actually played an XCOM game, I've seen plenty of Youtube videos about the series as a whole and I'm eager to pick up a copy of Enemy Unknown for the PS 3 when the price is in my range. So, I think I'd enjoy taking part in this project.
Thanks to XCOM's squad limit, I can see this being a small RP: six players only. Although it would be a problem if more people wanted to join.
We could run it with two squads then. Our unit got good funding and bought a second Skyranger?
Count me interested as well.
Are you suggesting the countries actually gave XCOM money before the aliens could do any real damage?
That'd be too smart. Too smart.
But if there are lots of people interested, two squads could work.
Or we could have an A squad and a B squad
The graceless warrior, wielder of the edgeless blade, prophet of the old religions, writer of fluent nonsense, saviour of soul and song. That's what I said. But first, we need more than six people interested in playing. We've got four so far, five if you count me.
I'm working on a signup sheet, will post it later this week.
Wouldn't you be the unseen commander, and/or the game's NPC?
The graceless warrior, wielder of the edgeless blade, prophet of the old religions, writer of fluent nonsense, saviour of soul and song.Well, we'd have to rework how battles work, because me telling all of you what to do?... not very fun.
yeah... you are right
The graceless warrior, wielder of the edgeless blade, prophet of the old religions, writer of fluent nonsense, saviour of soul and song.On a related note, when it comes to R&D and the technology that can be produced from it, I suggest giving the players some form of choice on what projects get funded first. There are probably some things that must be done in order for the game to progress, like developing an alien containment facility, but having us select between, say, two choices between each mission could have a dramatic influence on the plot as a whole (ex. choosing to dissect Thin Men over upgrading our armor could lead to a high-stakes battle against some Thin Men that see us as monsters, and choosing to send a new satellite to Russia instead of Africa could lead to a battle in the middle of a blinding blizzard instead of a sweltering savanna). Just a thought, of course.
A good thought which I'll use, Endark. Thanks for the idea.
If everything's fine, we should see something popping up either later today, later tomorrow, or early Thursday. It all depends on how things go in my real life, heh.
Hope it all goes well...
So I just finished playing the latest XCOM game, and I was genuinely surprised at how the game made me connect with these randomly generated soldiers, to the point where I would create backstories for all of them, have them talk about their lifes on the way to the mission and stand looking at the memorial for minutes while silently saluting those who died in the battlefield.
And I thought: this is prime RP material. I'm not sure I could handle it right now, since I'm juggling multiple R Ps (I'm the GM of at least 3) but I do want to see if people are interested, and get some of our idea veins flowing. Of course, everyone would be playing new XCOM soldiers, and this would follow their lives in and out of the battlefield as they fight in the Great Invasion. Lots of battles and lots of quiet times. And death for "realsies" too.
What do you guys think?
