Forgot to take that into consideration. It's hard for me to see that executive saying that episode was meant to be about transgenderism as anything but an attempt to cash in on that problem, whether they did because of wanting to be seen as progressive or wanting to get some controversy going.

They actually said it was about gender identity or something. Either way, it led to an implication that it was about being trans, and they made it look even worse than it already was.

On the controversy of the trans episode, apparently it wasn't even supposed to be about trans stuff and the producers marketed it that way to pander to the social justice crowd.
The writer of the episode also did apologize to any transgender people that could've felt offended by that episode.

No...? Like, besides the transgender episode that wasn't really a transgender episode, I haven't gotten the impression they're going for the same thing.
I would say that in general, show tries to suck in other fanbases into it.
Powerpuff Girls: It wears it's skin pretending to be a real thing It's a reboot.
Adventure time: Some of animation on faces and bodies looks inspired.
Steven Universe: transgender thing.
Simpsons/Gravity Falls: some of the humor gives me that vibe. Focus on Tv series anyone?
Teen Titans Go: Occasionally plots and humor give me that vibe.
There's something about it that keeps reminding me of Star vs. the Forces of Evil too, but I can't pin my finger on what.
What's that about?
Star?
It's about a princess from another dimension who lives with this Spanish kid and fights evil creatures with a magic wand. It's a lot better than it really sounds.
I think what might be reminding you is all the psychedelic colors the show is constantly throwing at you. At least, that's what I think.
