The problem I have with the current image is that while the image very clearly illustrates that the old man standing is supposed to be an instructor, to me it come off to me as if the kids are being punished, rather than training. It looks hellish, but due to the boys' inaction, it doesn't look like a training.

Here is my suggestion, a picture of Navy SEAL training:

Here are some other examples, although they might not be as illustrative.

I think the current pic + caption works well enough...not really crazy about any of those.

I wouldn't call my suggestions ideal, but in my opinion, at least they look like they are training. To me, the current image just look like the kids are being punished.

I prefer 1.1. Current and all the others looks more like punition than Training from Hell to me.

I'm fine with the current.

Yeah, the underwater pics really don't make me think this trope. It's just looks like a weird arty photo-shoot of some kind without the background info.

There's a really nice Training from Hell montage in Yu Yu Hakusho if we still want a new pic.

So far, the vacation at the beach seems to illustrate the trope best.

@Another Duck - I wouldn't call that a vacation, but hey. XP

Okay, to reiterate:

My problem with the current picture: It looks more like punishment than training.

Why I proposed mine: It is a picture of soldiers swimming out of pool while their limbs tied. I believe that this more clearly demonstrates both "training" and "hell" aspect of this trope.

Of course, this is just my perspective.

[up] Agreed...not enough information in the pics themselves to get across that it's training.

There's some martial arts where they punch ans kick trees to toughen up, does anyone know of a good pic of that?

Used "Muay Thai training" but all I got was just regular training.

@shoboni: How about a cap of Yosuke balancing himself upside-down on one finger?

Those don't look like training so much as an idiot doing something extreme. An image would require a student and a teacher. Such as Oliver Queen training Mia Dearden or Pai mei training the Bride.

This pic has a pretty clear instructor, I think.

I love how all the scorpions are just neatly standing in line. They have also obviously been through training from hell.

One or two more votes for the Venture pic and we can run with it.
