Yeah, I think her issue is that she tried to force everyone to assume her viewpoint rather than take the time to learn about other ways of thinking through what was going on.
Reaction Image RepositoryDammit, wrong thread.

Well, that was very interesting.
I liked that Fluttershy took a larger role than usual for the season premiere, as well as the fact that the secondary one-shot ponies took the lead this time. I'm willing to bet that this season will be expanding on the "teaching friendship to others" theme that was central to the Key episodes last season.
I'm glad that Starlight Glimmer got away - she's charismatic, ambitious, and unrepentant - she'll make a great recurring villain. I have a feeling we'll be seeing her again - we still don't know what exactly she wanted with Twlight's Cutie Mark...
Oh God! Natural light! It'd be interesting to learn why Starlight Glimmer thinks what she does about friendship and equality.
Trust you? The only person I can trust is myself.Agreed on the Shut Up, Kirk!, Glimmer in general and Fluttershy's role. It was a good start to the season.
I liked the premier, but the fact that it's so obviously a pastiche of Harrison Bergeron seems weird to me, since that story was actually supposed to be subtly satirizing a common strawman of Kurt Vonnegut's socialist beliefs. It just seems weird to see this concept played completely straight for a change.
I still enjoyed it overall, though. I would have liked to learn more about Starlight Glimmer's backstory and motivations.
The way she seemed to be trying very hard to take off with the Mane Six's cutie marks made me think that she wanted to do something with them. Maybe she's able to take over the talents of others using their cutie marks or something, therefore becoming super-capable and powerful.
Or she was just doing it out of spite. Maybe she figured she could use them as a hostage or something.
Reaction Image RepositoryNow I;m starting to wonder if she will come across the Alicorn Amulet and try to Take the Princesses cutie marks with her power?
I'm pretty sure she just wanted to have a world where everypony is "equal" and everypony follows her ideals.
Loves feel-good animation a whole lot.I got the impression that Starlight Glimmer was keeping the Mane 6's cutie marks out of spite, also. Especially what with her muttering, "They think they can come to my village and mess up my life? Well, let's see how they like living the rest of their lives without their cutie marks!" It really just seemed like she was trying to get back at them.
Trust you? The only person I can trust is myself.I'd say either that, or a sort of bargaining chip. "Don't throw me in prison or seal me under a rock and maybe I'll give your marks back!"
Reaction Image RepositoryI'm not a MLP fan but I take it that episode about Cutie Marxism aired?
I thought that she had a plan for the Cutie Marks, especially Twilight's. "This one belongs to a princess. We should hold onto until things...settle down."
The way she said it just made me think she was lying to Double Diamond because she had a plan for it. Something like equalizing more of Equestria while she wore it.
More like Cutie Cult.
I like the bit of foreshadowing where as Starlight is talking about the fake origin of the staff, we cut to a shot of Twilight making an expression that says "Wait a minute. Something doesn't add up here."
Cutie Marxism. I like that. That should have been the episode title. I don't care if it's accurate or not.
Loves feel-good animation a whole lot.Did... Did they actually just make a season premier based on The End Of Evangelion?

PSN ID: FateSeraph | Switch friendcode: SW-0145-8835-0610 Congratulations! She/TheyI still thought it was based on The Legend Of Korra.
The Staff of Sameness seemed based on the Lance of Longinus though, even if it was just a piece of wood she found in the desert. But a very interestingly shaped piece of wood...
And it destroys individuality. Yeah, definite Lo K inspiration in there, but my jaw broke the floor when I saw the Staff of Sameness.
Am I in the right thread? I only just found out the new season started (actually, I only just found out the new season even had an air date) and haven't posted in either Pony thread before.

PSN ID: FateSeraph | Switch friendcode: SW-0145-8835-0610 Congratulations! She/Theydepends, you want to post spoilers and speculation of future episodes? then you've come to the right place.
And here I thought that this was based off of Nineteen Eighty-Four and/or Animal Farm.
Short version is that the episode draws a lot from dystopia/brainwashing type stuff in general. I wouldn't be at all surprised if Camazotz from A Wrinkle In Time wasn't another source of inspiration.
This thread is for spoilery stuff like leaks and episode previews. The other thread is for general discussion.

Reaction Image RepositoryAlthough judging from the last page or so, general episode discussion has sort of spilled into here a bit.
Yeah, I immediately thought of Camazotz as soon as I saw the previews and the episode proper.
Trust you? The only person I can trust is myself.Musical score for episode 100 is done, and apparently the episode won't air until June 13, which means between now and then there will be three weeks without new episodes. Of course, there's also the possibility episode 100 is aired out of order for whatever reason.

I personally think that Starlight is just letting her ideology overly narrow her talent set. It's equivalent to Twilight saying that the magic of friendship is her special talent, true that's her most powerful ability, but at her core her talent is fundamentally "being good at magic". Starlight has the same symbol on her cutie mark.
The Crystal Caverns A bird's gotta sing.
