@ Mother 1 hack.

Yes! Soon I shall be able to face Giygas in his sane? form!

...Is it still Giygas? Or did they change it to Giegue?

...Ah well, I'll find out when it's ready.

[up]They're using "Giygas". They want to (mostly) go with Tomato's translation of MOTHER 1 from the 1+2 GBA compilation. Which also means they're going with the towns being named after holidays.

Yeha, guess that makes sense.

...Now I wonder if Mount Itoi will stay the same. It was named like that in honor of Itoi after all.

nintendo has already wasted their chance to release mother 3 overseas, it's kind of way too late at this point.

we can already play the game pretty easily, and honestly the fan translation for mother 3 had so much love and effort put into it that it's easily on par if not better than anything nintendo would have done.

[up][up] Ah, ok. For some reason I can't even get into the discussion threads of Starmen.net anymore. Just shows me a blank screen.

Luckily I can still see the walkthroughs because I need those for something I'm working on.

[up] Didn't they say that if Nintendo would have a change of heart and release it overseas they'd stop working on/take down the fan translation? While I agree on what you're saying, if, in some miracle, Nintendo does release it, the fan translation might be lost.

Is it weird that I actually like "Gyiyg" spelling?

I mean, I know its basically pronounced "Giig"(screw "Geeg" I'm not native English speaker so I'm using that as excuse to not describe phonetics in same way you guys do xP), but the palindrome thing makes it look so weird and kinda alienish :p

i like to think theres an in-universe reason for the name-switch, and that its tragic.

...just dont ask me how cause i never cared enough to think about it in detail =I

wild mass guess His former name, Giegue/Giyig/Gyiyg/Giig/Geeg/Mewtwo/Steve reminded him too much of his weakness and emotions and thus, in his quest for power, he searched for one that sounded fierce and powerful, but still let people know it was still him.

He eventually settled on Giygas. Because it sounds way more awesome than Giegue. Plus, it granted him free gasoline for his UFO's.wild mass guess

You forgot Geek, a name used in some very early American advertisements.

[up][up][up][up] Hell, my main language is English and I think "Geeg" looks and sounds ridiculous.

Then again, I pronounce Giygas "Geh-gus". I don't care if it's wrong, I'll STILL say it like that.

[up][up]Earthlings kept calling him a geek, so he was going to adopt that as his name, but then he learned what it means. That's why the second war against Giygas happened.

Hm... I don't think it was his immense power that drove Giygas insane.

I think it was because he kept being called different names and just snapped.

I think it may have gone like this:

"In the name of Mr Saturn, my name is GIYGAS!"

"Yes, lord Geeg."

"AAAAARGH! DON'T USE THAT NAME! IT HUUUUURTS!"

"What? Geeg?"

And thus, Giygas went spiral.

[up] YOU CANNOT GRASP THE TRUE FORM OF HIS NAME! Unfortunately, I can't either because of God knows how many translations of his name are out there.

Giygas is an alien thing that somehow evolved into Universal Cosmic thing and can only be hurt by the Power of Friendship?

Oh gosh, I just discovered the Bound Together fan-album! All of it is masterful, of course, but the electronic mixes are just SUBLIME~!

Personal favorites are Keep It Short and the EarthBound_WIP9 <Onett Mix>.

[up] I wish could make something as simple and as profound as this series. I am glad be a fan. smile

Anyway, I enjoyed the plot of the third game but I also enjoyed the open endedness of the the first two games. I know that the seires actually has a plot but do you joy the open ended, sandbox Mother/Earthbound or the plot driven Mother/Earthbound?

[up][up]I like both actually. I've always had a soft spot for games that let take a break and just explore the world around but I can't deny that the story of the MOTHER series has had major impact on me.

Personally think a lot of its darker elements are apparent earlier, too, just not as overtly.

The cops beating up an a teenager to make sure he's strong enough to get through their barricade's a highlight.

Or the gang leader who explicitly tries to stab you during his fight even earlier than that.

Or the moles covered in blood.
