I don't like the tone of this article, but here are links that are relevant to the book at least. Here's to hoping the approach this adaptation takes will be as critical as the one in Starship Troopers.
Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.Yeah, it's going to be interesting to see how Hollywood portrays Ender the child killer and Ender the Xenocide. Obviously I think the book did a great job, but I'm always a but leery of Hollywood.
HBO I might actually trust, though.
"Never let the truth get in the way of a good story." TwitterHas the author of the first article that Handle ever heard of child soldiers in Africa? Or elsewhere? No need to wait for the future to see kids killing each other and adults, and committing all sorts of other atrocities.
Just turn on your local 24 hour news channel and bob's your uncle.
Not so silly now, is it?
I skimmed the section headers and saw a part saying that Ender is Jesus and closed the tab because it set off my high school shock essay detector. (it is a very accurate detector because I used the _______ is Jesus thesis like all the time. i know their tricks)
"Never let the truth get in the way of a good story." TwitterOn one hand, Ender's Game is my favorite book. On the other hand, the book's about kids between the ages of six and fifteen, so while there was a bit of obfuscation of that fact when I read the book since you can't see the characters, but if I'm watching a movie, it might just seem a bit... silly? I guess it's the same thing that happened when I watched Narnia.
Also: Harrison Ford and Ben Kingsley.

They're aging the characters up a couple years to account for that.
And say what you will about Harrison Ford, but Ben Kingsley was really good in Shutter Island and Hugo. I've heard he was good in Ghandi, but I haven't seen that.
"Never let the truth get in the way of a good story." Twitteri might watch this...
that said does anyone else feels turned-off by the books because the author is a homophobe?
"Please crush me with your heels Esdeath-sama!I didn't list their names because it's a bad thing. Also, I feel a bit like a simpleton for saying this, but I really enjoyed Kingsley's performance as Watson.

I got the books before I learned about the author's personal life. Even now, knowing that he's a huge dick, I still like the books because someone's personal life is their business, not mine. As long as I don't see them preaching to me in his works, we're square.
^oh ok. Overall the casting looks incredible—the kids are all pretty spot on.

"Never let the truth get in the way of a good story." TwitterInteresting. I'm hoping for a good adaption.
Fight smart, not fair.I'd see it. But the director has me a little concerned.
Also under some relevance The Nostalgia Chick's review of the book.... or rather her thoughts on the book and then her thougths on Scott Card's opinions and actions.
But yeah sorta relevant.

I'm on Youtube Reviewing Things Cause I can.I haven't seen anything else that Gavin Hood has directed, so I can't say.
"Never let the truth get in the way of a good story." Twitterwell yeah I heard about it. I don't remember what anyone's said about it, though.
"Never let the truth get in the way of a good story." Twitter
It's bad..just very bad. It's plot isn't well done and there's some continuity issues.
I'm on Youtube Reviewing Things Cause I can. That's not a good sign. On the other hand, the reason this movie's taken so long to get made is because of Card personally rejecting every screenplay he's seen. On the other other hand, though, novel writing ability doesn't necessarily translate to screenwriting ability.
"Never let the truth get in the way of a good story." TwitterEnder's Game might just be my favorite sci-fi novel of all time. I've heard that the film will be incorporating elements of Ender's Shadow as well, and I've read part of that. Guess I'd better finish it before the film comes out.
And in regards to Gavin Hood's resume, I don't know if I could blame him entirely on X-Men Origins: Wolverine (which I haven't seen, by the way). It could just as easily be the studio's fault. I guess we'll have to wait until November 2013 to see.
By the way, Orson Scott Card's homophobia affects my opinion of him, but not of his work. As mentioned before, his opposition to same-sex marriage doesn't manifest itself in his novels, so it doesn't bother me.
A fistful of me.i understand you points.
but to me the idea of me buiyng and enjoying his works makes me feel that i am supporting him in a certain way.
this hits especially hard for me because you see one of my relatives is actually gay.(one of my cousins to be more precise.)
"Please crush me with your heels Esdeath-sama!I kinda get not buying something, but not enjoying it, too? That would make sense if he used his works to promote homophobia, because that would objectively leave a bad taste in one's mouth. I mean yeah, he's definitely all about traditional, Christian family values in his books, but otherwise, no actual attacks on homosexuals.
Basically, it's kinda like disliking Braveheart because Mel Gibson is anti-semitic and crazy. While that's true, there are no jews in the movie, so the two can be entirely divorced from one another.
PS. my best friend is gay and loves Ender's Game.
"Never let the truth get in the way of a good story." Twitteryeah my wording could have been better.
also most of my family are christians as well and they are not homophobic.
and i guess good for your friend then.
but he is just one person and not everyone will react that way.
example:"Ender series – Orson Scott Card. Because I hope the man falls into a pit of fire and sadness and I will not give his books any attention because he is a bigot. Also, I read the first book when I was younger, loved it, learned he was a bigot many years later, re-read the first book, and got incredibly sad."-Mark Oshiro from "Mark does stuff" fame.

"Please crush me with your heels Esdeath-sama!But are you going to stop reading every author who has views you don't like? (The Twilight Series?) What about film directors? (Roman Polanski, of course) Then there's musicians (Wagner, anyone?)
I'm not going to stop buying the books of people I disagree with - I'd never buy anything. And I'd also have to check if it'd been typed in Gill Sans.
The good thing about Orson Scott Card is that despite his spouting off the LDS party line in his non-fiction articles, in his fiction he's much more able to represent alternative points of view. Ender's Game is a brilliant book. So is Ender's Shadow. I heaved a huge sigh of relief when I saw the cast and I hope I'm going to enjoy the film.

It ain't over 'till the ring hits the lava.i was not implying that! did it came off like that? i am sorry.
"Please crush me with your heels Esdeath-sama!If it's any solace, Card can't stop progress. Twenty years ago, he supported legislation that would outlaw homosexuality all together. Now, he only opposes gay marriage. In another twenty years, he'll renege on that, too, in order to avoid looking bad.
I have a friend who's gay, too, and he seems perfectly willing to read the book.
Regarding the OP, The Other Wiki doesn't mention anything about the film wrapping production.

A fistful of me.Wagner's dead. It's different when it comes to buying things produced by living people, because you're financially supporting them. For example, I won't pay for anything Polanski was involved in. While violent rape of a teenager is obviously worse than homophobic opinions, I can see why people would feel the same about Card.

Apparently the Ender's Game movie is in post production. Not sure how this flew under the radar so completely.

This casting looks pretty great. I'm so excited.
