Even if it hadn't been cut, it would still be worth renaming, at the very least. The definition may need narrowing.
I think the current name is fine even though DNDTR has been cut. Unless it's underused (nope) or misused (wick check please?), this would just seem like renaming for the sake of it.
That was the amazing part. Things just keep going.I'm just saying as the snowclone is no longer considered a snowclone due to the fact that Did Not Do The Research is cut.
This was just a suggestion.
If the title's fine, then a mod can lock this thread.

"imilar to "spastic" above, "retard" is considered a pretty strong pejorative in the UK whereas in US media it still seems to get thrown around with a fair degree of regularity ...although Sarah Palin made an effort to change that."
Permission to remove this? That world is still considered pretty offensive here as far as I know.
I edited the entry; there is still a debate about "retard" in the US.
The current trope name (Did Not Do the Bloody Research) is good as long as "bloody" is an example of the trope. I am not sure why "bloody" is an example of the trope; is it because "bloody" is more offensive in the UK than in the US? I am confused, because Real Life says that "bloody" has "little residual offensive value".
"Bloody" as used in the trope title is correct, or at least, I would call it correct.
Curse the ill fortune that led you to me.I think that might be better phrased as "is 'bloody' actually offensive today?"
Bloody is actually comparable to "G*d Damn" as far as I know.
In my everyday life, the word 'bloody' get thrown about a lot, and nobody I know is offended by it (I have no problem saying it to my parents, and I'm ear-bendingly polite towards them).
So basically, it's a curse word with absolutely no weight behind it. The trope description is a bit inconsistent though, it says in the first paragraph.

Curse the ill fortune that led you to me.I think the trope's meant for words that could be called "offensive".
I could see this getting a rename because the title is narrowly focused on one particular example and may confuse people as to the intended context. Frankly I don't give a crap about whether it offends someone that we're using a Britishism in this particular way; I care only about whether the name properly describes the trope.
So, this is a trope about someone using foreign swear words in a context where they would not be considered appropriate for the intended audience or rating if aired in the place the swear originated, right?
How about simply Swearing Dissonance?
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"Swearing Dissonce makes me personally think more of different cultures find swearing more or less offensive than others.
"Swearing Dissonce makes me personally think more of different cultures find swearing more or less offensive than others."
But isn't that what the trope is?
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"Yeah, the description covers any form of Swear Word Dissonance.
On the other hand, what case for a rename do we have? "Name possibly too narrow" is rather weak.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanNot really, it makes me think of swear words within their own culture, not using foreign swears.
Non-indicative would be the reason. At the least we can make it a redirect, if there isn't enough support for a full rename.
It is a valid point that Did Not Do the Bloody Research is a snowclone of DNDTR, regardless of whether the latter trope got renamed or cut. However, it continues to live on in wiki culture and likely informs misuse of this trope.
So, the question would then be: is there misuse? That's the next step - look at examples to see if they're correct for what the trope is.
As for proposed titles, would Foreign Swearing Dissonance be more indicative? Bit of a mouthful, though.

"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"Does anyone else think we should change the title?
If not, I'll request for this page to be locked to clear the amount of pages in the Trope Repair Shop.
If there's agreement that it needs a new title, then we can put up a crowner to confirm. However, if the question is whether there are more pressing topics before TRS, such that this one can be revisited at a more opportune time, then I wholeheartedly agree.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"From what I saw I think the examples are fine.
I mean, it's a snowclone, but it's not as if it only makes sense as a snowclone. If you've never heard of Did Not Do The Research, you should still be able to understand what this trope's name means.
Rhymes with "Protracted."I repeat: do we need a crowner on this? Is there evidence of the need for a rename proposal? If not, I agree with closing the thread.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"I do too, there's really nothing that needs to be done, it's a fairly old trope page that's getting along just fine the way it is.

Fine. I'll close it to make room for other stuff. If we decide to revisit it later, we can always open another thread.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"
This was a snowclone on Did Not Do The Research, but since that was cut, perhaps we could rename this one?
