Kogami's monologue/confession thing felt awkward. Like, really awkward, as in "cool story bro, but I really don't know how to respond to that." And yeah, the pacing's a little off. Can't put my finger on exactly what's wrong, though.

All I saw was something like, "Look! Isn't her life perfect? Won't it be so great to watch the moment her soul gem Psycho-pass turns dark?"

Of course the system and the city aren't as perfect as they might for one second superficially appear, but the girl has an ordinary life at least. She seems pretty lucky.

But as was basically pointed out, beyond Akane, it really doesn't seem like these people have much control over their lives. I honestly would expect a much higher rate of rebellion.

Actually the pacing feels fine to me though. Just that the narrative is dwelling on strange things, and at a guess this episode felt it had to show off The Future! to us.

I think this is really just the setup. We've heard a lot more about the Enforcers personalities and the male lead; It's interesting how he's different from the others, because most Enforcerers haven't committed any crimes - They're simply *born* into the role, with a natural predisposition towards criminality.

However, Shiina seems to have done some *seriously* bad things before. That gives him perspective: Contrast his treatment of our heroine with the guy she was talking to at lunch.

Also, the Utopian future society works. People seem to be fairly happy, but things are kept in line by hideously draconian measures...Though on the surface, everything's fine.

[up] Yes, yes it was. XD

- I approve of personal holodecks in the future.

- Stamp of Approval on Omniscient Weight Watchers Program.

- Food Dispensers that churn out meals which look more than delicious than the ones on Star Trek - how can I complain? (However, I definitely prefer Star Trek phasers over this show's guns.)

- Btw, that seemed a lot of grub for 200 kcal...

- That clothes autodress program/system - I want it badly. (Maybe the story takes place in virtual reality...)

[up] Could be food processed to have less calories somehow, they can probably make that kind of thing.

Episode 2: Damn look at all the cool stuff the future has. As mentioned, personal holodecks. Want one so badly.

Didn't see any pacing problems myself, but I did notice that the pacing could have been better. Eh. Old guy did cool stuff again, happy-go-lucky guy had an interesting rant and the tech stuff pleases me.

I wonder how that food even tastes. I'd usually assume that it tastes rather bad and the people who regularly consume it just got used to it, but this is The Future! so I have no idea.

200 calories sounds like too little for breakfast though.

The clothes bother me.

Is it just a mask(which would mean that she walks around feeling half-naked most of the time)? Is it actual mass out of nowhere? How many people use it?

[up]Those clothes bothered me too. At first i thought she was just changing the colours like she did with the apartment but no, the clothes were compeltely different. I presume it has mass or else she would freeze in the cold and I think she was walking in high heels so if those were simply holograms she'd have to walking on tiptoes. The only explanation I can think of is that the technology advanced to the point they can shift the molecules in the clothing to any shape and color.

With all the Holography shown in Akane Tsunemori apartment and wardrobe makes you wonder; what she is actually waring. And while on the subject of Holography, just what in the city is real or is actually what it appears to be?

I continue to be impressed with this show. When I saw the first episode one it just clicked, I haven't felt this from an anime in a long time.cool

Also the implied lesbian encounter between the Blonde Scientist and the quite Enforcer with pony tail; is all right! Giggidy Giggidy.cool

The last show that clicked with me right away was Madoka. This is looking pretty good though. I always like seeing how the future handles advancement with technology. We also see that not all encounters end in a blood bath, which means the system is working on the capture front at least.

[up][up][up]Interesting point about the city. I remember this being a issue on a book (Incarceron) I read; the society was ordered to use holograms 24/7 to make it look medieval. The energy supplying the holograms failed and revealed how dirty and horrible everything really looked (full cables etc). Not sure if Psycho pass will ever mention this though.

[up]Oh man I hope we don't go that route, I read that book to and raged rather hard at the end at all the holograms (for slightly spoilery reasons, basically I can't take any hologram seriously that changes not only something's appearance but it's texture/other sensory details as well, technology can't do that!) so right now I'm just trying to not think too hard about all the holograms in P-P. One question however, does that mean all the mascot-esque guards shown in the first episode were real people as well? I remember when Akane went up to one and showed her badge that it looked different for a half second but I'm too lazy to go back and check to make sure I actually saw something.

If it has a plot then I have something to say about it!

Until someone can give me a better explanation, I'm keeping my theory of 'molecule manipulation' to explain the clothes.

I think hard light (didn't know that term before) is a silly thing and, for something that's trying to pass as a "serious/dark/gritty/edgy" sorta-sci-fi show like this one is having more fantastical elements in it brings me out of it. Oh and I answered my own question, it looks like normally those mascot police things (saw someone describe them as "totalitarian moe" which is what I keep thinking of them now) are droids which explains why the suspect didn't expect any resistance in the second episode.

[up]I think a lot of people are trying to describe as many things as moe because of that whole 'moe wasn't allowed to be said during production' thing

I saw the episode quite some days ago, so I could be wrong but I think that Akane was actually wearing her uniform and then used the hologram program over it to make something more appropriate for meeting her friends.

If I'm sure of something it's that I'm not sure of anything.

Star Trek had something similar to "hard light" - life support belts which gives the user a personal... forcefield or similar. Though I think it was only around in the animated series.

Psycho-pass' clothes system may work similar to (personal) forcefields. Though that's assuming that the "virtual reality-like" clothes can physically affect the environment, not just manipulate light.

Another theory I (think I) prefer is that the characters are covered by an invisible layer of nanobots.

wild mass guessWMG Time!wild mass guess Based on what he said in the hospital scene, Kogami is a time traveller/human-popsicle from times before Sibila, and he wants to find a way back home. "I don't want to die in a place like this" sounds too dramatic and specific for just another slum in an Enforcer's work day.

There's no Part 1, I just thought it was funny at the time.

It sure looked like they grabbed someone with the holo-costume. So I'm going to assume that the holograms have presence.

I wouldn't have thought the clothes could be just holograms even in that case though, because they also change Akane's shoes, and therefore her height. I'm assuming that they're an actually physically changing outfit (however wrong I may be) because being left wearing only your underwear/naked due to forgetting to charge your clothes/going out of wireless range sounds stupid to me.

Still that compact would make it pretty easy to pretend to be a Magical Girl either way. And it's not like I'm expecting more than a handwave for the technology anyway.

So, Akane, how does it feel to have Spike Spiegel (minus the impish sense of humor) as a subordinate?

My prediction; Gen is tired of being pegged as predictable, and is going to subvert his own themes and deliver some happy endings.
