Introversion has started a Kickstarter-ish crowd funding on its own.

For those you don't know, Prison Architect is basically Sim Prison. Introversion made games like Darwinia, Uplink, etc.

$30 for base pack? Huh, that's rather expensive...

Also, prison riot? Cool!

It's not the retail price, it's a donation reward.

Mind if I necro this?

Right now, it's in alpha, with obvious gaps in gameplay, but it has a growing fanbase, along with a front-page Steam promotion under its belt.

At the moment, I'm in that stage where I'm letting myself fail at it. I'm fiddling with the structure of different prison. So far, I was able to stop the worrying amount of escapes with a fence, but now I have to deal with riots and figuring out how to expand the right way.

Anyone else have this game?

I got it during the sale. At first I was having trouble with building what I needed before the second wave of prisoners, then I was having trouble with escapees, and just yesterday I had a riot I had no idea how to handle.

What really bugged me though is that the little tutorial thing never said that prisoners won't move from the deliveries section unless there are guards, and the letter you get at the start of the game proper mentions nothing of guards either. So in my first try I had 8 prisoners standing in Deliveries in handcuffs doing... nothing.

I thought they were common sense. Why have a prison without guards?

But it seems like you had some of the same problems than I did. Another one is with the workmen's routing. I had to abandon one save because they decided to stop building.

I should be consulting the few guides that are out there for some primary layouts.

EDIT: This looks useful.

EDIT 2: Or I'll start off with a pre-designed map.

Oh, routing also bugged me for a bit. Chefs would rather go through holding areas where I keep the prisoners than take a slightly longer route to get to the road. This of course then slows down the guards who have to open doors along the way.

Have been playing this. Currently trying to find the sweet spot where number of prisoners working offsets the number of guards required to police them.

Always loved Introversion's stuff. I'll have to find time and money to buy this.

I have started playing this recently. Very addictive. In the same sway Dwarf Fortress or Darwinia are.

I had to go through a few prisons before I got a design that worked. Learning to set patrols and direct people where needed and employing prisoners.

My current prison has capacity for over 160 prisoners. My goal is to have a facility large enough to hold 300 mixed security prisoners with large body blocks set for the respective security levels.

My current long running prison has had a series of set backs and disasters.

My first set back was discovering prisoners tunnel. Rotten buggers. When I figured out to use the Shake Down I found a mole network of tunnels going all over the place.

My first major disaster involved a nearly over drawn generator and a pump station. I disconnected the pump station without shutting off the power to it. Big mistake. It caused the generator to explode and set the work shop nearby on fire. It also burned down a large section of my perimeter wall.

Despite the sea of fire my prisoners rioted and made for the gap. By the time the guards and riot police arrived to block the gap I had suffered a mass escape.

I have had two riots. Both were kinda rough. The first one 2 guards and 8 prisoners died. Kinda ugly.

The second one though was a knock down drag out brawl starting in the showers. Half the prison population Charged my four armed guards who started to unload on them before being killed. Then the guards swarmed in and 8 got killed. The riot Police and Paramedics had a lot of work cut out for them. By the time it was all said and done 27 prisoners had been killed in the riot either by the armed guards or by their fellow prisoners.

87 prisoners were slated for solitary as punishment. The entire population was also slated for lock down.

Now my problem is trying to figure out why the bodies are not getting hauled to the morgue and herse.

Meanwhile, I'm waiting for more features before replaying it.

Where did you leave off playing it? As in what build.

Current build has quite a few.

It lacks a quest or goal system still and an expanded and recurring grant system would be nice.

Next feature batch will supposedly include forestry as a job for inmates and other bits and bobs.

I don't remember setting patrol paths last time I played. Not sure if it's because it wasn't included yet or I was just dumb.

Admittedly, I also forgot to put metal detectors at the doors to my prison, so...

Metal Detectors are good for the entrance to cells, the chow hall, shower, and work shop areas.

I am not sure when patrols got added.

Patrols have been in for a while.

I've made an interesting facility. I'm up to around day 90 and still haven't brought in a single prisoner. My accountant says I'm not gaining any money, but my forestry says otherwise. :P

Yeah it is totally possible to rake in cash from just a massive forestry patch and slowly build a prison then flip it for a starting cash bonus on your next prison. I would basically lay out a small brick and mortar and get all the basic starting stuff and then flip an empty prison for cash. I would start a new one and wash rinse repeat until I had small starting fortune.

Necromancy because the game is available in a Humble Bundle for less than $6.00. Thinking of picking it up myself, heard it's one of the games that made good use of Early Access.
