OK, here's the sign-up for a recurring companion

Name: Elias Shahfaq

Age: Variable

Species: Digitised Human

Planet of Origin: Earth

Appearance: Variable

Personality: Quiet spoken, but always with a rock hard sense of self that almost everyone in the 61st century possesses.

Backstory: In the 61st century, Human technology has increased to the level where the human consciousness can be completely digitised, and then transmitted by a method called Hypercasting, to anywhere on Earth or any planet in its Alliance almost instantaneously. Once at its destination, that personality can then be downloaded to clone bodies of any sex, with any ability or knowledge required already implanted into the destination body, or 'sleeve'. Human identity has become so fluid than it no longer matters what body you may have been born with, you can change it. Age no longer has a meaning.

There are many theories that humans are approaching a point beyond which they will no longer need bodies at all but remain completely digital within a virtual environment. New 'life' will still be generated but within that environment.

Human kind has once again been experimenting with Time Travel, after the abject failure of the zygma experiements in the 51st Century, and the brief period of the Time Agency in the 52nd. This time, they are focussing more on sending a digitised person into the time stream where - so the theory goes - they will emerge from the time corridor and download into an unconcious or comatose individual. Then be retreived and returned to their own time.

For the first round of experiments, the leaders of the Project went to The Stack, the prison system of that period. Essentially a giant hard-drive where criminals are stored for the length of their sentence, some of which can last for decades. They selected a former Alliance trooper, gone rogue and serving several prison sentences for various crimes, by the name of Elias Shahfaq. They offered him a deal; volunteer for the Project and once it was over, recieve a full pardon, a new body and a generous monetary reward. They did not mention that there was a high probability that he might suffer the erasure of his Self in the process.

Elias agreed. Anything to get out of The Stack. So they hooked him up and started the countdown. However at the moment of his transference into the Vortex, the TARDIS went past. There was a tremendous surge of transtemporal energy and a backlash of energy that destroyed the lab. It was assumed that Elias had been lost in the disaster.

But instead Elias was dragged into the TARDIS' wake. Now, landing sometimes allows Elias to download into a sleeping person. And whenever Elias shows up, the Doctor's always trying to find a way to keep him there, so he won't have to take over someone's body for a day or two.

Ooooh, a recurring character the Doc might not actually be pleased to see. I, for one, like it.

BTW, you wouldn't happen to have read Richard Morgan's Altered Carbon, would you?

Hah, awesome. Always good to see someone else has read the same somewhat-obscure series as you tongue Sadly, I've only been able to get my hands on the first book.

All right. Side character for this story:

Name: Anatoly Sokolov

Age: 20

Species: Human Russian

Background: Anatoly volunteered for the Russian army to get away from the grinding poverty of his home. But soon found that the reality was somehow worse that he could ever imagine. So he went AWOL and is now on the run from Military and civilian forces seemingly hellbent on finding him and dragging him back. Just so they can make an example of him to anyone else considering doing the same.

Then one day, running through the backstreets in another attempt to escape the authorities, there was a flash and he fell. When he opened his eyes, he found himself somewhere he'd only heard stories about. And having to run for his life once again. But this time there might actually be a place of safety. He is determined to make it, despite the apparent odds against him. Whatever happens this can't be as bad as where he came from.

  • Name: Kamelion ||
  • Species: Robot
  • Age: N/A
  • Appearance: I am Kamelion ||, Human Cyborg... Wait, no, that's not right.
  • Personality: Kamelion is a forgetful robot, who often messes up his memories with those of well known sci-fi film characters. He tries to be kind and follow his programming code, but often fluffs up.
  • Bio: Soon after the Dictors regeneration into his Twelfth form, he found Kamelions memory banks in the TARDIS database. They were mostly corrupted, and he was unable to be fully restored. The Doctor constructed a new body for him, exactly like the old one, and uploaded him with the corrupted memory. Kamelion ||, unhappy in his new form, left the Doctor, and headed out to explore space. He eventually reached an intergalactic repair station. While there, he filled in his memory banks with information from films from the late 20th and early 21st century earth, and had a limited vortex manipulator installed in him, allowing him to travel through time once a week. Most notable of his memory loss was the loss of the memories that allowed him to run his transformation system.

Well, I'm interested to see your spin on what is possibly one of the weirdest Doctor Who companions out there.

He'll be acting a... bit weird compared to his usual characterisation mind.

Is there an episode already taking place, or can I just jump right in?

There's an episode taking place. Unfortunately, that means waiting.

Ok, I don't mind waiting. Just out if interest, how many episodes in are we? Will there be two parters?

We're in the second episode. As for two-parters, I'm not sure, considering the nature of the RP itself. Let's move this to the discussion thread, alrighty?

This sounds interesting and I might want to get involved depending on what kinds of characters are needed at the moment. I'll lurk for a while and maybe jump in once there's a need for additional people. I am perfectly fine with side characters for the moment.
