So, there's not much of a story to tell, here? If the retraction is already out there?
I have a message from another time...No single player from EA for "Gen4" consoles. (Gen4 = Xbox Infinity, PS 4.)
And you believe it? Actions speak much louder than words. Name a purely single player game from EA lately.

Jonah FalconThat could just mean they're trying to cover their tracks so people don't rage at them.
I could see them pulling this shit.
That's just using the same quote that was re-clarified in the retraction.
I have a message from another time...Which means that there might be single player on "gen 4" consoles, and the Article linked to is dumb.
God I don't know why I still read these threads.
At least I'm not posting in this thread sober. Then I'd just get mad.

Question: was it necessary to make Sim City online-only?
Jonah FalconThis wouldn't be so bad, so long as multiplayer was optional and couldn't be forced on people not interested in it. But assuming EA will do anything pleasing to the masses is just believing the devil's lies right?
Modified Ura-nage, Torture RackI restate my question.
Jonah Falcon...I don't think there is a Sim City that is online only. Except the Facebook one. But that seems obvious.

So, are you saying that that he was lying when he said that you can play Sim City single-player? I haven't played a Sim game in a decade, so I wouldn't know.
I have a message from another time...Can you play without an internet connection?
In addition, you do know that multiplayer requires a major chunk of development man-hours? Basically, you're sacrificing work on single player to shoehorn in multiplayer.

Jonah FalconThat's more of a DRM, not a multiplayer thing. Steam and Valve games like Portal and Half Life need an internet connection.
Not saying it's a good thing, but you're kinda comparing apples and oranges.

Like hell I do. I'm this close to giving up video games altogether, and this is not convincing me otherwise.
You can't kill an inanimate object or concept.
Artificial Intelligence is no match for Natural Stupidity.Excuse me, why do you think EA put in the "every game must have a multiplayer option" in the first place?
To combat piracy.
And you still haven't addressed the fact that multiplayer development eats away at the game like no other. Let's look at Mass Effect 3.
I know for a fact from an EA employee that the multiplayer component was the reason ME 3 was released incomplete, and EA didn't want to wait til November to release it, which Bio Ware told them it would take til.
So, please, don't tell me multplayer doesn't cause problems.
Jonah Falconwasnt the multiplayer for me3 developed by a different team altogether?
Eh, ME 3 did not suffer particularly from incompleteness. It suffered from "the head writer is insane". That was not EA's fault.
Home of CBR Rumbles-in-Exile: rumbles.fr.yuku.comI apologize if your word is worth less than nothing to me, and don't trust any information that you may provide. But you have said things on this forum that you "knew for a fact" from an "*insert company here* employee" and all of those things you said turned out, on later examination, to be untrue, baseless, badly sourced and sensationalist.
I mean no disrespect of course. But first, I don't care about ME 3, and second, if you want me to believe something, back it up.

I know this from first hand sources.
Let me put it to you in another direction: why is Wasteland 2 a Kickstarter project, despite originally being an EA title?
Jonah Falcon
...What first hand sources? Can you provide a quote? Evidence? Charts and graphs with little pictures? Anything that would actually in any way prove that you aren't just talking out your ass?
Please? Pretty please? With sugar on top?

Well that's a case of mismanagement for Mass Effect. Metroid Prime 2, Perfect Dark, WWF No Mercy, the latter 2 Smash Bros, Golden Sun, Most Need For Speeds, Grand Theft Auto San Andreas, Bomberman and many of EA's NBA-NFL-FIFA titles had good single player modes despite the existence of multiplayer.
Granted, forced online service does seem like a legit reason not to buy but it says games that are mainly single player haven't been announced as online 24-7. EA does have a history of sucking, but they also made all those title people drool over like Madden, Mass Effect and Dead Space. I people who care enough about their games would be more hopeful.
Modified Ura-nage, Torture RackSince when was Wasteland 2 an EA project? What's more, even if it were, what does this prove besides "EA isn't interested in rebooting a 20+ year old franchise"?
Home of CBR Rumbles-in-Exile: rumbles.fr.yuku.com... Wasteland 2 was never an EA project. Brian Fargo said himself that every big-name publisher he went to rejected him.
So either EA, indeed, rejected him, or he never went to them at all.
As for ME 3, any faults with that game are purely on Bio Ware's shoulders. The multiplayer was developed entirely by a seperate team, and had no effect on single player resources.
Finally: Fuck EA.
"It's so hard to be humble, knowing how great I am."
Frank Gibeau states there won't be any more single player only games by EA ever again.
The retraction of the statement quickly follows.
