I'm glad to see Kotor 2 is selling so well on Steam at the moment.
You'd think a 6 year old sequel with a reputation for an unfinished ending and regarded in the mainstream as a disappointing or even at times 'shitty' sequel to the original coming onto Steam with minimal hype or announcement wouldn't sell as well as it did so I'm glad to see Kotor 2 is finally getting the recognition it deserves.
At what point can we start discussing all the themes and concepts in both games?
8 year old. Released in 2004.
Jonah FalconKotor 2 was late 2005 wasn't it?

Nope. Dec 6 2004 launch on Xbox. Feb 2005 launch in Europe and PC.
Jonah FalconI've only ever made it to the last level of the first game, that was on a Dark Side campaign, so you can understand why I didn't manage to finish. When you have to take a nonJedi in against Sith, things get rough.
My main disappointment with the KOTOR series was that its dark-side plots were little more than a drawn-out exercise in puppy kicking.
I own the original game, but sadly it seems running KOTOR on Windows 7 is an exercise in frustration, so I'm probably not ever going to be able to play it again.
O.o Then I must be lucky, because I have never had any problems running games on Windows 7. Ever. I know not to run '93 era games on newer systems, but everything newer I've managed to get working without even having to find a way around security or anything.
I'm having zero problems on Steam, except sometimes the game spawning out during a cutscene for no reason.
Jonah FalconI've been playing through 1, and there's the occasional problem with spawning out during a cut-scene and being stuck in combat after killing everyone, but otherwise its been pretty good.
Playing through Manaan's an exercise in frustration, though.
This post has been powered by avenging fury and a balanced diet. That happened even in the original PC version, and I was running an XP back then. Guess they didn't fix many of the glitches then...
A little trick if the game keeps minimizing on you at random moments.
Find the game's .ini file.
Go to Graphics Options
Add "Disable Vertex Buffer Objects=1" (without the quotemarks)
Apparently, Vertex Buffer Objects used to improve performance, but some modern graphics cards (a lot of NVIDIA cards for example, though this applies to other brands as well) it's an artifact that badly reduces performance instead.
This works for both games.
Here's a more detailed guide on how to do it for KOTOR 2. Again, this also works for KOTOR 1, although the .ini file has a different name.
I'm so sad that we never got a proper conclusion to this series.
SWTOR's actually pretty good. It's going free to play in a couple of months and when it does, the game client will only cost $15, so if you want KOTOR 3, buy it then and roll a Jedi Knight.
Hmm... what's the benefits for buying it before it goes F 2 P?
Free to play is going to lock out most of the end game content unless you have a subscription or you purchase access to that content with real-world money. But most of the plot is not in the end game.
Free to play doesn't lock out end game content. Just the raids.
Jonah FalconIt completely locks out operations, but also limits flashpoints and warzones. (We haven't been told to what extent it's being limited, yet.) And considering that endgame consists pretty much entirely of those three things, I'd call it fair to say that it locks out endgame content, yeah.
It's also not going to let F 2 P accounts go past the level 50 world content — which is currently the end of the game, but they're going to be adding a new level 50+ planet, which will presumably add more story as well.

Really from Jupiter, but not an alien.Yeah, even with the fixes, the whole Nar Shaadaa setting shits the bed in a big way.
Jonah FalconSo one of the changes from the final version of TSLRCM is that you actually do get your original lightsaber after defeating Atris.
And Kreia is far more of a Manipulative Bitch.
Also, Brianna gave me a hissy fit for even speaking to Visus. And she's my favorite to convert to being a Jedi, dammit.
Jonah FalconHey guys, I just bought KOTOR 2 on Steam for a measly ten bucks. Are there any fan patches/mods that I should grab before playing?
There is actually a well-known restoration mod.
I haven't tried it out yet, though (but will do so rather soon).
People aren't as awful as the internet makes them out to be.Assuming it works on the Steam version, of course. Steam games have a nasty habit of being inompatible with fanmods, seeing them as corruption of the game.
I beat the first one with a Dark Side character (and one that was not very combat optimized... I was trying to play the game as a Force Manipulator, which did me little game when the final battle involves massive amounts of combat. I wound up winning by a combination of setting a lot of mines and doing a lot of running away while I pumped combat stims and health packs). I never got more than about halfway through the second game. I think I got discouraged at how much of the game I felt like I was locking out by not making the exact right choices at the times the game expected.
Couldn't find a KOTOR or Knights of the Old Republic thread.
Well, finally decided to get the PC version on Steam - good excuse for me to try out the restoration (v 1.8).
According to the page, it's correct if you either a) find a vibrocutter on the dead body or b) Kreia refers to the vessel as the Ebon Hawk and not "the ship".
Found a torch, but she did say "Ebon Hawk", so hopefully I'll finally get to play the compleat (The Beatles style of spelling :p ) KOTOR 2.
