I do listen to him, but yeah, that's pretty stupid.

Looking for some stories?

Yes, a character that has existed for decades predicted the corporate depredations of a future presidential candidate.

Kudos, Chris Nolan, on getting political conspiracy theories about your movie content before it is even released.

What about Joel Schumacher with Batman And Robin in 1997? The man's a psychic!

So just because we now know about the Bain capital thing a character who has been in Batman for at least two decades (and was announced as the villain...what, a year ago? Two?) is suddenly a reference to some stupid shit Romney did?

"Do you think it is accidental that the name of the really vicious firebreathing, four-eyed whatever-it-is villain in this movie is named Bane?" Limbaugh asked his listeners.

Uh...yeah. He's kind of been around for twenty years by this point and is a well known villain. Also I believe writing for the movie started well before this year which is when the Bain Capital thing became a huge issue.

Wow...

"So this evil villain in the new Batman movie is named Bane. And there's discussion out there as to whether or not this was purposeful and whether or not it will influence voters. It's going to have a lot of people," he continued. "The audience is going to be huge. A lot of people are going to see the movie. And it's a lot of braindead people, entertainment, the pop culture crowd, and they're going to hear Bane in the movie and they're going to associate Bain.

"And the thought is that when they're going to start paying attention to the campaign later in the year," Limbaugh asserted, "and Obama and the Democrats keep talking about Bain, not Bain Capitol but Romney and Bain, that these people will start thinking back to the Batman movies - 'Oh yeah, I know who that is!'"

Honestly does he even read what this sounds like? Does anybody else honestly go along with this?

The OP article isn't The Onion, is it?

I saw John Stewart joking about the Bain/Bane thing this morning, but who would be stupid enough to actually think there was a connection?

Edit- "really vicious firebreathing, four-eyed whatever-it-is villain"- except for the vicious part, that doesn't sound like a particularly accurate description of Bane.

[up][up]I get the feeling he hasn't even seen the movie. He just saw the name and realized he needs to make some shit up for his column tomorrow so he'll write whatever he thinks of.

@JAF: That's an easy one, Bane in Batman & Robin was some kind of metaphor for healthcare reform. Batman & Robin also predicted the recession. Batman's frivolous spending and charging on the Bat-Credit card are a metaphor for all the crazy spending that led to it, and the period of not having any Batman movies between Batman & Robin and Batman Begins is a metaphor for the recession itself. Furthermore, the part where Batman and Robin are arguing over Poison Ivy is a profound metaphor for the tension in the middle east, with Poison Ivy representing resources or land and Batman and Robin representing the various factions who want it. Joel Schumacher was truly a visionary and the philosophical merits of Batman & Robin are truly underlooked.

Oh boy, not a discussion but more "what a dumbass" thread and not really appropriate to the live action film subforum.
