[up][up][up] Either of the medals? The beam one was debatable (though both she and Ponor had some difficulties), but Raisman was perfect on floor AND had high difficulty - I can't see any argument for her not deserving that gold. Ponor had more visible mistakes, albeit small ones. The person who came after her wasn't Ponor, it was Izbasa, who had a great routine almost all the way through but then fell at the very end of her last tumbling pass, putting her out of the medals.

Yes, Medicus. Only because she tried to elbow Victoria Pendleton in the rib cage as she was being beaten like a red-headed stepchild. /slow golf clap for that one.
Whatever. It's a terrible sport anyway.

But anyway, the Austrailian national anthem really sounds like a Mashup of "Star Spangled Banner" and "Amhrán Na Bhfiann", at least instrumentally.
I told you it sucked.

It's not over. Not yet.

Wait, were you talking about the Gold Medal count or the Total Medal count?

Because the Dutch are in 11th place in Gold Medals.

And are in 16th place in Total Medals.

Well, the official Medal Count counts gold medals first, then if you have the same number of gold medals it counts the silver medals, and then the bronze. So yeah, we're in 11th place.

My point was that it's Hungary that has surpassed us. Kazakhstan was already above us (Make Benefit Glorious Nation...), but now Hungary has risen to 9th place above but Kazakhstan and us.

Okay, I was wrong back there:

Cian O'Conor, the guy who won gold in Athens with a doped horse, didn't actually know the horse was doped. The horse had an injury, and the vet gave it a sedative, stupidly giving it one which was illegal.

The reason I bring this up is, in a weird case of Speak of the Devil, because a Swede pulled out, Cian O'Conor is competing in the Individual Showjumping for Ireland again today, and is currently in first place.
If he wins.... the drugs had nothing to do with the Gold Medal he got.

KATIE TAYLOR HAS GUARANTEED IRELAND AT LEAST A SILVER!

Also, more corrections: The Irish don't count the medals won in 1996, due to the winner of those later being banned for doping. The Olympic Committee however still counts those medals.

So, Scotland - 7 Golds out of 11 medals, as part of Team GB.

Not half-bad, really.

And let us pray that come it may (As come it will for a' that)

Last I checked this morning (and from my evening "big event" watching) was the fact that Beach Volleyball Women's is going to have US gold and silver. No matter what. Any results on that?

Congratulations!

I'm getting a little frustrated with Canada right now. We got two more medals today (Canoe/Kayak Sprint), but we still only have one gold. If we end the Olympics with only one or two golds, that will be pretty embarrassing.

[up][up][up]Australia has a fairly prominent (in Australia, that is) women's beach volleyball team.

I haven't heard anything about them. I guess they crashed and burned and the media forgot to mention it?

Edit: It really is time for some new blood in the Australian Olympic team. About a third of the athletes competed at Sydney.

Edit the 2nd: Yep, they got kicked out early on.

So, the Women's 51kg Flyweight is currently on, between England and China. Whoever wins gets the first Olympic Gold Medal for Women's Boxing. Good luck to both.

In 4 minutes, the 60kg Women's Boxing will be on, and I am willing to place money that there will be more Irish than Russians in the arena. Personally, being Irish, I'm rooting for Katie Taylor, the woman who campaigned to get Women's Boxing as an Olympic Sport.

The handball semifinal between Norway and South Korea is in progress, and at half-time we lead 18 goals to 15. A splendid job thus far from all of our players, especially both of our goalkeepers. But there's still 30 minutes to go...

all these things sound 5x more entertaining than women's basketball, which is what is being covered.

the only thing i'd get out of watching this game is the ability to rub a win in all the aussies' faces on this forum (presuming a win, of course)

And we're in the finals! grin With a final score of 31-25, the Norwegian handball team is showing off an excellent form before the finals. The opponent will be Spain or Montenegro.

Japan... ;_;

It was a good and fair match, and both teams played their best until the very end. Would have wished for a different end result, but still.

Our men's hockey team just swept the British off the mat with 9-2. Not ruling any waves now, eh? Both they and their Distaff Counterparts are in the finals now.

I don't really like hockey - it's a bore to watch, and (in our country at least) it's played almost exclusively by annoyingly preppy kids. In fact, the Dutch word hockeymeisje ('hockey girl'), while technically meaning 'girl who plays hockey', has lots of derogatory connotations - think preppy, ditzy and arrogant. But hey, it's always nice to see the national team do well!
