I loved this show so much when I was little. Even that crappy rap opening they used near the end of the run.
It was so much better than that new show.
"When you do things right, people won't be sure you've done anything at all" Futurama, Godfellas"Ladies and Gentlemen..."
"We're!"
"Ready!"
"To!"
"PARTY!!!"
"The difference between reality and fiction is that fiction has to make sense." - Tom Clancy, paraphrasing Mark Twain.Yeah, it had more imaginative plots than the new show.
I'm especially fond of that 'Find the mistake' episode where Garfield dared the viewers to find three mistakes through the cartoon. Then the episode was full of hilarious and horrible goofs, and at the end, Garfield pointed at three tiny trivial details as the supposed mistakes. I don't actually laugh at cartoons often, but that one had me in stitches all through.
That's the one Truteal just linked to.
"The difference between reality and fiction is that fiction has to make sense." - Tom Clancy, paraphrasing Mark Twain.I didn't click on the link since I don't tend to watch cartoons in English. I have problems understanding spoken English well.
My favourite cartoon Garfield is the best cartoon character. I bought every Garfield comics and I had all Garfield and Friends episodes.
http://www.garfieldforever.comYou dare challenge the king of street cats and his furry loving crew with THIS!? YOU MUST DIE!
Dakota's blog An odd agent of justiceI saw a clip from something called "Garfield Gets Real" the other day, and I saw Dagwood Bumstead in it!
I saw a little of that on Cartoon Network a couple of years ago...it was meh.
Insert witty 'n clever quip here."THE BUNNY RABBITS IS COMING!"
"YOU FILTHY SWINE!!! I WILL KEEEEL YOU!!!@King Kix: hey, Garfield said that, not me.
All things are lawful for me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but all things edify not. This was the first cartoon I remember watching. I think mom found it because I was already reading Garfield when I was 3, so she figured I'd like it.
There should be a Heathcliff-Garfield crossover. Why hasn't anyone ever tried to work that out?
It continually amazes me how much subversive humor and blatant take-that's G&F got away with. Especially since it was produced by Dic, a studio not typically known for breaking from the norm. I specifically remember one U.S. Acres short where they took a direct potshot at The Ren & Stimpy Show; not a thinly-veiled stand-in, they actually referred to it by name.
I remember that show! My mom and dad would get the videos and sometimes the specials. Or sometimes we'd record them off the TV. It's where I learned "there's no such thing as Wyoming" and what "Abu Dabi" is, as well as being my introduction to Lorenzo Music.
... now they have that insipid string of CGI specials that are so different, they have hardly anything to do with them at all.

Garfield and Friends wasn't DIC, it was Film Roman.
I'm bumping this thread, and I want to say that this was one of my favorite shows growing up because Garfield is my favorite comic strip. In fact, this was one of the shows that I really liked watching on Saturday mornings, along with Scooby-Doo and Mr. Bogus.
Sometimes, you just can't win them all.
You know, the animated adaptation of the widely popular newspaper strip?
Oh, how I remember waking up at 6 AM before school to catch this show on the local FOX channel when I was in elementary school. From what I remember, I really enjoyed watching this show. There's something about silly fourth wall jokes, excessive lampshading, and continuous potshots at various cartoon tropes and cliches that just get me.
I found the show much funnier than the comics, even as a little kid. And it definitely blows the most recent Garfield cartoon out of the water, at least in my opinion.
So, anyone else have fond memories of this show?
