Adblock Plus now has a feature which allows certain non-annoying ad to be displayed (and it's enabled by default).

https://adblockplus.org/en/acceptable-ads

Since the site relies on ads for support, maybe you guys can convince the Ad Server to comply with Adblock Plus's relatively new feature?

Bumping to see if there is still interest.

This seems like a bad idea from the perspective of effectively legitimizing adblock tacitly through creating a compliant interface catering to it.

This is something that a business that relies on ad revenue should probably avoid.

Quite the opposite, it's an admittance that ad people have fucked up to the point of making Adblock necessary (which even ad providers have officially admitted!), and taking steps to make it unnecessary (and by default, unused) on the site.

It's a way to admit "Yes, we know autoplay video ads and redirecting ads are awful." and automate the steps to make sure there won't be any.

People are going to use Adblock anyway, so may as well fulfill the guidelines that bypass it in its default configuration.

I would strongly support this. In addition to allowing folks who run ABP to have it enabled (it is a security addon, of a sort), being compliant with the ABP Acceptable Ads list would help to reduce the amount of whack-a-mole that the admins are having to do with bad ads.

Edit: I put this up in the wishlist.

I support the return of inoffensive ads that don't make my memory cache weep tears of blood and frustration.

[up][up] I've had problems for some time with TV Tropes, and only TV Tropes, slowing my browser down. So after reading your post, I tried removing tvtropes.org from my whitelist on ABP (it was the only domain on the whitelist). I'm sad to say, it fixed the problem immediately. So yes, this unfortunately seems highly necessary.

How much money would I need to spend to offset how much I cost the wiki? I don't try to give on at least a monthly basis and I don't use ad block but all of the sudden it has become really tempting.

That's why he wants you to have the money. Not so you can buy 14 Cadillacs but so you can help build up the wastes

Moved this to Wiki Talk so that a discussion can be had if needed.
