Is there any reason why we need a Video Game specific form of this?
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanWell, if it's about literature, what would be the difference between this and a fanfic?
The Internet misuses, abuses, and overuses everything.Actually, that works as well in reverse: how is this not simply "video game fanfiction"?
And aren't they usually referred to as simply fangames? Or Fanime, or whatever the media is...
The Internet misuses, abuses, and overuses everything., The chief distinction, at least from a video game perspective, is that between a Fan Sequel, which continues the story, and a Fan Remake, which is exactly as it says: A fan-made remake of the original game, usually to port it onto a newer or different system.

That makes a distinction between a Fan Sequel and a Fan Remake, but says nothing about what a Fan Game is, which, if both former ones are about games, is the supertrope.

The Internet misuses, abuses, and overuses everything. If Fan Game is a trope as opposed to a medium, then this is Fan Game meets Continuation.
True. We probably should have a page for that, now that I think about it.

To elaborate: The trope was originally launched as an exclusively Video Game trope, and the description still references video games solely. However, it seems to have accreted examples from other media, which makes the page seem like a needless duplication of the Continuation trope (whose own Video Game examples more properly belong on Fan Sequel anyway).
So how should we handle this? I'd prefer we keep the two pages as distinct as possible, with Fan Sequel staying game-specific, but I wouldn't be opposed to merging the two if that's the consensus.
