I thought I was the fifth person.
Song of the SirensSure - I didn't recall from last night.
I was about to say something about Heather, but then I remembered promotion items aren't necessary as in the GBA games and thus not stealing/opening chests doesn't make a huge difference.
Since Haar's status is undecided this may become moot, but if banned for regular drafting would he still be available for your choice of 2-P unit?

Only the sun has stopped.Haar would be acceptable as your 2-P unit.
As for what to actually do with him, rather than ban him altogether, I would like to assess a penalty on his use. I'd say... 2-3 turns per chapter that he's used in for parts 2 and 3, on top of having to draft him. Penalty no longer applies in part 4.
That seems fair, I guess...
Song of the SirensIf you had a different proposal, please do elaborate. I'm just throwing out an idea. Not trying to make him unpickable, only to make him not head-and-shoulders better than every other unit.
I honestly don't care, because I don't intend to pick him (gives me a better shot at the other high-power units anyway), so whatever you other guys come up with is cool with me.

I don't really feel like picking him either, except he makes 2-E and 3-3 a fair bit easier.
Song of the SirensThen is everyone good with a 2 turn penalty per chapter? If so, we can make this rule official.
Next topic: Are there any other exceptions that we would like to make to the forced units / penalties?
Meat shielding isn't cool, but I don't think there's a penalty on using him to just make the enemies too chickenshit to take the left route (they won't even try to attack him because it's suicide, even by their standards).
And 3-3 isn't that hard anyway.
2 turns in Elincia's route, 1 in Ike's?

On "Normal", you kind of need Nolan to tank 1-1 but maybe Edward's enough on Easy? idk.
Oh, also, are any special rules required related to herons?
edited 20th Jun '12 2:44:10 PM by montagohalcyon
Only the sun has stopped.I really don't think he is.
And if you haven't drafted Edward, Leo or Nolan, then you'll just have to bite the bullet and take a turn penalty, because there's no way Micaiah can do that level by herself.

Song of the SirensWell, if you note above in the OP, Leo and Eddie are free for 1-P and 1-1.
2 turns + 1 turn is fine, but I think it really needs to be 2 turns for 3-3. He really saves a lot of time on that level, between 9 movement and flying.
No special rules on Herons, but they can't be used just like thieves can't be used, unless they are drafted.

I can use Haar to keep enemies from even thinking about going certain ways in 2-E, right? So long as he doesn't ACTUALLY fight them, of course.

Department of Redundancy Department.

Only the sun has stopped.Correct. Also, I will also point out that there's no rule against having units digging around to find buried treasure either.
Hmm, this means that I might have to give Heather Shade if I don't actually manage to draft her. You know, to help with said digging while not getting penalized.

Any free units on the part 4 split?
Also, any limits on how much bonus experience can be given to a single character per chapter?
I'm trying to think of everything so it doesn't become an issue later.

Only the sun has stopped.I don't think so.
I'm going to say no tentatively. While it may be necessary on "Normal", I don't think you'll have to worry too much about it on Easy. By this point, you'll have five people per map, which is actually sufficient.
Use or abuse BEXP as you see fit. I've got no qualms if you've got a 20/15 Nolan in 1-E.

So, what order are we picking in?
Song of the SirensI will determine that randomly
3, 1, 5, 4, 2, was the order in which the numbers 1-5 first came up from repeated selection. So the order will be:
- montagohalcyon
- Dark Confidant
- asterism
- Alfric
- Balmung
Numbers were assigned based on signup / confirmation order as listed in the OP.
Well, crud. At least I get to pick two at once.

Since Alfric hasn't checked in yet I hope we can still address rules concerns if he has any.
Volke
Edward because I love my Swordmasters and he's a cheerful guy.
Lack of Nolan hopefully balanced by Sothe arrival in a chapter and focus on speed over killing/obtaining everything, and lack of my godly Sothe transfer hopefully balanced by easier difficulty.
I kind of wish I had Balmung's spot, actually.
I probably won't start this for a couple of weeks, but if second playthrough makes no gameplay difference beyond Pelleas/Lehran availability and I don't end up drafting them...

Only the sun has stopped.
This topic is for a draft competition of Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn. There will be five players in the draft: Myself, Balmung, montagohalcyon, Alfric, asterism. As noted in the title, there will be free discussion about the game and the various chapter maps. If you do not wish to be spoiled, please turn back now!
The rules:
We will be playing on Easy Mode, with no transfer bonuses allowed. However, all players will be assumed to be playing on Clear Data, which allows for minor changes to the story and a couple of additional characters.
There are 73 characters in Radiant Dawn. Ike, Sothe, and Micaiah are free for all players to use freely in all chapters, and do not have to be drafted. The two characters The Black Knight and Lehran are drafted as a pair.
There will be 14 rounds of drafting. As there are 69 characters to draft, the last two people (myself and montago) will both get the same final unit. A full list of playable characters appearing in the game can be found here - link also includes an availability chart.
As always, drafting will be done in corkscrew fashion. The drafting order will be randomly selected to start out, then will proceed in the following fashion: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1, and then repeating six more times.
Currently available units for drafting:
Taken: montagohalcyon:
Dark Confidant:
Asterism:
RaisinReysonSnackySanaki's Stachealfric:
NorrisNolanBalmung:
Due to the unique complexity of Radiant Dawn, several units appear as forced units in certain chapters. There are also maps where no free units appear, and as such, special exceptions must be made:
Edward and Leonardo may be used without penalty in 1-P and 1-1.
The Black Knight is free to use in 1-9. He must be drafted to use in 1-E. He is free in 3-6.
Elincia and one other character are free to use in 2-P
Brom and Nephenee are both free in 2-1
One free character in 2-2 through 2-F on top of any units you draft.
Ranulf must be deployed in 3-4. He cannot participate in battle without incurring a penalty. Siege arrow attacks exempted.
One free character in 3-9.
You may deploy any forced unit (duh) plus any unit you draft (duh) plus any units required to recruit another unit (For example, I can deploy Haar in 3-7 to re-recruit Jill; he can't do anything else though.). If units not drafted do any of the following, you take a four turn penalty per unit who violates these rules:
(The astute will notice that being a torchlight is not among the verboten things.)
Rules for Haar: If you pick him as your free unit in 2-P, there is no penalty. If you draft him, there is a 2 turn penalty for every chapter in which you deploy him for 2-E, 3-2, and 3-3, and a 1-turn penalty for 3-4 through 3-E. You may use him without penalty in part 4.
If there's anything we need to hash out, now would be the time. Once we have the rules worked out, I will randomly determine the drafting order, and we can begin.
