South Park is offensive as hell. People have a right to be offended by it. It's their opinion.

I do not like overly offensive things in games. I've facepalmed multiple times. I only accept Mortal Kombat since it's not meant to be taken seriously, except for 9, which I hate the character designs for most characters in that game. Mainly the revealing ones that weren't that way before the game existed. Since atleast most of them have some kind of justification. Everybody else? Bull. Shit.

I agree that it can't be used for every statement. However, Dead Rising is pretty clearly a parody/satire of any number of things. The whole "Erotic" thing is likely a ridiculous joke about how messed up our culture is.

I'm not saying it is above criticism or anything like that, just saying that not everything is intended to be seen in a clinical, non-humourous light.

Dead Rising's meant to be a parody of brain dead consumer culture (geddit?) and market exploitation, but whether it's particularly successful or not is really up to the player. I think it's half decent, but I think it deserves some flak for how it positions its female characters, and for its homophobia (Overweight lesbian cop assaults women with police truncheon while reciting rape rhetoric? Really?)

[up]Criticism can be funny, and can appreciate the funny, but it aims for dispassionate opinion and wide-raging appraisal. (Though reading back, I think you and I might be on the same page here).

You know it wouldn't, if the genders were changed without changing the images or shots or acting.

...so?

that would still be bad.

the lesbian cops were bad. and if they were gay cops it'd be just as bad, regardless of the tone...

I don't find that funny at all. I find that 100% stupid and should not happen.

Not all of us find that humorous at all. For many reasons.

South Park is offensive as hell. People have a right to be offended by it. It's their opinion.

And some opinions are outright stupid.

If someone is offended by a TV show (that attacks everything for the sake of humour), then they need help and learn to fucking laugh at themselves.

But a lot of games are. I blame Mortal Kombat 9 for this.

Why?

When did we become offended over everything lately?

There's a difference in being offended and criticizing.

If someone is offended by a TV show (that attacks everything for the sake of humour), then they need help and learn to fucking laugh at themselves.

That doesn't mean it's not offensive. If you tell a joke and it offends someone, that's your fault. Not theirs.

[up][up][up],[up][up]I think you guys are overreacting just a little bit. We said it was disturbing (and that rape jokes aren't funny, regardless of gender or orientation), not that it was the worst thing ever. These are hardly screams of outrage.

Obviously, Mortal Kombat 9 had such a profound effect on the gaming industry that it's ripples went backwards in time.

To prevent a great evil from being done!

Okay, maybe not.

I won't go that far. Rape is sometimes funny. Black Comedy exists for a reason.

However, if you tell a joke that sort of joke, you don't blame people for not finding it funny. You go to a funeral and piss on the deceased's grave: some may find it funny. Some may beat your ass for it. That's the game you're playing.

I don't think taking pictures of digital zombie boobs is really as bad as pissing on someone's funeral.

[up][up]Fair enough. I'm just getting a kick out of the concept of people getting offended at the concept of being offended.

[up]I don't think any of us said that, did we?

Mortal Kombat 9 is blatantly sexist, extremely offensive, and is literally the worst game character design-wise in any of the series. And yeah, I do find it a bad game on that angle. The rest have some bad parts, but this is the one game I actually find reasons to be offended. Why the hell are so many people revealing which it's already beyond Out-Of-Character? It's just downright blatant terrible fanservice that should not be acceptable. And I love the series, but no, I cannot agree with this.

And South Park is still offensive as hell. A parody does not make it less offensive. It just makes it easier to laugh at, nothing more. I don't watch it anymore because I just can't find it funny at all. I do not like stereotypical jokes either. No reason to. I cannot say maybe when I was more immature, I laughed, sure. But that doesn't mean it was okay to laugh.

Opinions cannot be stupid or wrong anyway. Unless they're misinformed. Of which that is not the case here.

I've been criticizing gross-out shows for a long time now, same with revealing clothes for most characters. I never liked that idea. Even if I like part of the game as a whole, it doesn't mean I should like every single bit of it. There is no reason I shouldn't be criticizing decisions I cannot agree with.

Its starting to look like its better to just be offensive instead of trying to please everyone.

Less of a headache.

Offending everyone does not work. Trying to not offend them only makes them happy. The solution is beyond obvious at this point.

You make people happy.

Because they can pull it off. Like I said, it's a game. Some people will laugh. Some people will kick your ass.

I said you try it, and see how far it gets you.

Speaking of out of character outfits in fighting games. I don't know how they are going to justify Mu in Blazblue now that Noel is supposed to have her own mind now.

#5900: Dec 6th 2012 at 9:00:22 PM

Noel is learning how to control Mu's powers by having Rachel teach her.
