Hey there! Does anyone have awesome anime music recommendations? I've already listened to the entire Death Note, Cowboy Bebop and Higurashi soundtracks. I'm looking for particular tracks that sound freakin' AMAZING. Thanks.

Nichijou's soundtrack is performed by an orchestra. Gurren Lagann's sounds epic.

This request perhaps belongs in the recommendations sub-forum (perhaps in the anime thread) but then at the moment we don't really have a music thread that hasn't fallen down, so...

Perhaps you might like the Kara No Kyoukai soundtrack. Also I'm thinking the Darker Than Black soundtrack.

If you do like orchestrations, the Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood soundtrack is pretty good.

And for something you may not expect the soundtrack from The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya is great.

There is an anime that will not be named which has a great soundtrack too.

And lastly although it might not be your thing I have to recommend the Clannad soundtrack. Including this image song and this one.

Also, Mushishi though again it's more a fantasy soundtrack.

You can't wrong with

  • Lisa Komine (Rental Magica, Gosick ) nice rockish music
  • Sachi Tainaka (Seirei No Moribito, Fate Stay Night) With 4,5 octave very likely owner of best voice of japan
  • Fiction Junction YUUKA (Gundam Seed, Madlax) which is Duo consisting of Yuuka Nanri (vocals and Yuuka Kajiura (composition, lyrics and keyboards), which are both famous on their own anyway.
  • Himeka (Valkyria Chronicles, Letter Bee) She was the winner of the Second Annual Animax Anison Grand Prix, which gathers aspiring singers from all over Japan for the chance to make a professional debut and sing a theme song in an anime television show, which made her into one of most popuar anime singer.
  • Faylan (Broken Blade, Mirai Nikki) Another good rock

You can find and download almost any existing anime song on http://gendou.com/amusic/ registration is needed but its free so...

You've already got the Cowboy Bebop soundtrack listed, so I'll second the Darker Than Black soundtrack and suggest (with stand out tracks):

  • Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex; CB is Yoko Kanno being jazz-y and blues-y, DTB is her being up-tempo and thrilling. SAC is her being synth and emotional at the same time (Surf, Run Rabbit Junk, Monochrome, Siberian Doll House).
  • Macross Frontier; Because you can never have too much Yoko Kanno. MF is Kanno channeling pop, with a handful of decent orchestral tracks even though one sounds suspiciously like Pirates of the Caribbean.
  • Baccano!; Excellent backing music. Sneaky, mysterious, exciting all at once. I would recommend Durarara! in the same space, as it's more of the same but with a bit more pop and synth (can't think of any because I tend to listen to the OS Ts as a whole).
  • Eureka Seven; has some excellent house/trance/techno tracks, not to mention a whole bunch of excellent, triumphantly upbeat tunes (White Tiger no. 23, Niji, theEND).

That's all for now!

That pretty much describes my iPod.

Wait, isn't that what iPods are for?

I'm super-keen to hear what you think of Stand Alone Complex and Eureka Seven, when you actually get round to them!

Angel's Egg. Go find its OST as soon as you can and give it a whirl. It's quite specific, so it may not suit everybody's tastes, but if it happens to suit yours even slightly, then the result is bloody amazing.

Panty and Stocking, Pandora Hearts, Baccano, and Durarara.

Don't mind me. I'm just a creepy little lurker.

I was going to second Eureka Seven, but you've already heard it... Un Go and Birdy The Mighty Decode. Senki Zesshou Symphogear is a great mix of Image Song-ish vocal tracks (hard techno/rock and some pop-rock), tiny tidbits of orchestra-ey vocals and an then the actual soundtrack songs. Dot Hack Sign, which has Surprisingly Good English vocals.

I know I have already posted here, but I just came back after listening to a song from Ao No Exorcist and oh my GOD I almost forgot how good the OST was.

This one song in particular truly deserves the "Greatest Battle Music of All Times" moniker given by the author:
