Some SHIELD agent.

I don't know if she's appeared before now, but I'm not sure if Standoff was the best place to introduce her - there's already a lot going on there, and she only appears briefly, so we aren't really given much reason to care about her. She exists, I guess.

I'd rather have Phylla back. Granted, I haven't read anything with her, but she sounds pretty cool. Maybe this Quasar's a lesbian too.

[up] They could make her a trans woman. Trans people are underrepresented. So it'd be cool if this one actually turned out to be trans.

Edit: I doubt that'll be the case, though. Marvel seems weirdly reluctant to have openly LGBT characters as leads. Especially when the character is an outright hero. I mean, Daken was able to be bisexual, but he's an evil Depraved Bisexual. Angela could be lesbian (even if Alonso didn't want to admit it), but she's an anti-hero.

I honestly do wonder if Marvel is just uncomfortable with the idea of an LGBT lead. They're allowed to be members of teams, they're allowed to be supporting characters, but it's really rare for them to be leads.

Edit 2 The Edit Wars: Though the creative team will be the key to whether she's worth reading. Truthfully, there's a very small number of writers who could make me pick up the book.

But what's kinda cool is that there are actually enough awesome female-led titles right now that I feel no particular need to give a shit about this new Quasar. It was just a few years ago - not even 5 years ago - that Marvel had no female-led solo titles. There was a span of several months between X-23's series ending and Captain Marvel launching. Before that, Marvel always had only a handful of female-led titles at a time.

Now, they've got a whole bunch. And that's great.

Are there any titles with a non-white female lead (aside from Ms. Marvel, of course)? I think Silk? That seems like an area they could do better in.

I'd love of Monica Rambeau solo series.

"... Well, let me tell you about MY wedding. It was a double ceremony, conducted by Immortus, master of the Limbo Dimension, in the shade of a lovely old tree, which the other bride was marrying. This was after I'd fought Dormammu, of course. And helped my husband self-actualize — he needed to get in tune with his head crystal. I suppose that was just the sort of thing you did back then. It was a very... Oh, what's the word? A very groovy time."

"... Yeah, I, uh... I think we were going to go with a more traditional wedding..."

I wish Bendis hadn't made Scarlet Witch such a radioactive character. Her interacting with Billy in the new New Avengers issue is The Best Thing.

Today!

New Avengers #11 is great. So much fun. I loved Wanda describing her wedding. That description is why I love comics. And then Squirrel Girl gets the best description: "Squirrel powers, girl powers. Does comp-sci, so she's got URL powers, which are IRL powers. I'm not sorry," And then the Plunderer was amazing, too. He gets more ridiculous every time Ewing uses him. "What a Plunder-ful wooorrrld!" "Die historic on the Plunder Road! Plunder-Ball - AWAAAY!" Ewing is clearly having a huge blast on this series, and it's infectious.

A-Force #5 is similarly great. Singularity is adorable, which is the most important thing. But She-Hulk is delightful throughout the issue, too. Her excitement about fighting a giant dragon. And then her pure joy when Medusa throws her. (I was torn between calling it a Hulkball Special or a Fasthulk Special, so I tweeted Kelly Thompson, and she said Fasthulk Special. So, Fasthulk Special!) Then we get some real drama between Dazzler and Dazzthor. But then discussion of pie! So it's a really fun comic.

UXM #7 was pretty good. The Monet stuff especially. Monet and Callisto sniping at each other was really fun. I love me some sarcastic comments.

X-Men '92 #3 . . . Ugh. This series is just so derivative. It's just taking this cool group of characters, and plopping them into stories other people have already told. Also! How do you do a comic where vampire are chasing after Dead Girl, and not do anything with that? Dead Girl vs. the Undead! That would be amazing! The next issue had better do something with that. On the plus side, Storm being hardcore is a multiversal constant.

Contest of Champions #8 is more fun. Night Thrasher gets to be both ridiculous and awesome. He hacks a food terminal to open the cell doors. And the hacking looks like some weird video game, which is cute. The Ultimates didn't actually do a whole lot here, but I get the feeling we haven't seen the last of them in this book. There's bound to be more crossing over.

Captain Samerica #9 is great, as always. Great character stuff, and some great humour. And I love how much Spencer makes use of the real-world opposition to Sam as Captain America. I'm pretty sure this will be a better book than Captain Steverica.

Scarlet Witch #6 . . . damn. These are the kinds of comic stories I love most. No big battles. No worlds at stake. Just one person trying to help another. Wanda's in Paris, and learns that Le Peregrine hasn't been active lately, and she finds out his wife recently died. So she tries to help him. And it's just . . . people talking. And Marguerite Sauvage's art is gorgeous, and the whole thing is wonderful, and exactly what superhero comics are at their best.

Black Widow #3 is another fast but enjoyable read. This issue is one that excels at mood, at being quiet but powerful. I love that even though Widow's face is even throughout the issue, not giving away her feelings, Samnee still gets across her emotions by showing her wandering through her memories of the Red Room. It conveys so much. This series is going to be amazing to read when it's finished. Samnee and Waid are creating the story that should be adapted for a Black Widow solo movie.

Thunderbolts #1 is OK. Admittedly, I haven't yet read the original Thunderbolts (so no one spoil the big twist!), so I don't have that nostalgia it's trying to play off of. But on the whole, I found the comic had some things that worked, and some that didn't quite click. It looks likely to be a very middle-of-the-deck book. Not a bad one, by any means, but nowhere near one of their best. Also, what the hell is with Moonstone's outfit? It looks like someone removed her skin. The colour and the lines honestly make it look like we're seeing her meat and muscles. It's not a good design, at all.

Punisher #1 is, well, a Punisher comic. Cloonan is making use of the more modern Punisher style, where he's more a force than a protagonist. You've got a criminal organization, you've got DEA agents trying to take them down, and then you've got the Punisher walking in and killing people. He doesn't even get a single word of dialogue. It's pretty by-the-books. Fans of the character should pick it up, as it's looking like it'll be a well-written story. I'm fine with having just flipped through it at the store.

Moon Knight #2 is good, it's got a lot of cool, interesting things going on. But I don't like the idea of Khonshu and the other Egyptian gods being revealed as actual aliens. It's possible Lemire's going somewhere with it, but it's an idea that doesn't sit right with me. On the plus side, though, Mr. Knight is back!

Rock & Groot #5 is a lot of fun. I like Jay Fosgitt's art. I'm familiar with him through the MLP comics, as he draws some of those. And it's a very cute, cartoonish art style, and it works particularly well for a goofy cartoon story like this issue had.

Howard the Duck #7 has Tara suggest the group name of "Uncanny Rescue Rangers." This is a good name. I like Tara. Also, there's a great burn on Spider-Man. When he says his Spider-Sense only detects personal danger, Howard says that even his powers are self-centred. Solid burn, Howard. It's a really fun issue.

I'm going to bitch a minute about Deadpool: Masacre. Because its very existence pisses me off. They originally published it in Spanish, with no translation. I don't believe for a moment that it was actually intended as outreach to Spanish readers, but fine, OK, whatever. But now they released it in English. But rather than just use the original English script, they translated it into Spanish, and then translated back into English. They put in extra work to make the story less readable. And then they charged $4 for it. Fuck off, Marvel. That feels so much like just boasting. "You people will buy anything with Deadpool's name on it! Haha!" Just print it with the original English script. Don't troll your audience by making the reading experience less enjoyable. It's a dick move.

Nova #7 is really good. Some really emotional stuff. The opening scene between Sam and Kaelynn is something I'd love to see more of, because it's a really sweet sibling relationship. And then the stuff with his dad's clone is also great. While I dislike that it's still on about Sam looking for his dad, Duggan does a fantastic job heightening the emotion in this issue.

All-New Inhumans #7 is really good. Ana Kravenoff actually brings an interesting angle to the issue. I think a lot of that comes from Caselli's art. He gives her these great little smirks that I really enjoy.

Spider-Gwen #8 is pretty good. It's the issue that has Gwen stop being a bitch to Silk, so that's nice. It also has Evil Silk singing A Whole New World. Which is fine by me. I will say, though, that the last-page cliffhanger really should be the easiest thing ever to resolve. Mockingbird: "You've crossed over the line, Cindy!" Silk: "It's legitimately my evil duplicate from another reality." Mockingbird: "I kinda hate that I believe you."

So, with Night Trasher back in 616 with his last memory being his pre-Civil War death(in reality got transported to Battleworld), who do we want to do a new New Warriors book with him, Speedball and Justice as the team leaders? Do we want them to head out to find Namorita after the destruction of Atlantis and Nova Prime since Kid Nova seems to be stuck with trying to find his dad? Do we want the kids from the last book to show up again?

Edit: So what AoS people haven't jumped over yet?
