FULL DISCLOSURE: I can understand that while after the BS we had last year that we got half a mind to call Stan Lee a monster, it is also widely possible that this is genuinely fake and this Daily Mail is just pulling stuff out of its collective ass.

To support this, there's no real credit involved in this supposed Daily Mail article.

Another thing, apparently the Daily Mail is like the UK equivalent of the National Enquirer or Fox News in that it's a bunch of jerks saying whatever they want for the sake of money.

Remember: "Innocent until proven guilty."

If so I'm hoping Daily Mail is just tabloid bullshit then.

This article also mentions the Daily Mail and "unnamed sources."

So if it's really just the Daily Mail talking about this and no one else, maybe it really is tabloid BS.

There's also this statement from Stan Lee's lawyer Tom Lallas:

Mr. Lee categorically denies these false and despicable allegations and he fully intends to fight to protect his stellar good name and impeccable character.

'We are not aware of anyone filing a civil action, or reporting these issues to the police, which for any genuine claim would be the more appropriate way for it to be handled.

'Instead, Mr. Lee has received demands to pay money and threats that if he does not do so, the accuser will go to the media.

'Mr Lee will not be extorted or blackmailed, and will pay no money to anyone because he has done absolutely nothing wrong."

Daily Mail is always lies.

Exactly. If he did do something, then sure, he's a creep. But I don't trust that this is true, considering his advanced age, the source, and the lack of other allegations over the years.

I would be cautious as well not to dismiss these allegations, if there is good proof he did do this then we have sadly break down that pedestal we had for him.

If it's senility, then there is at least a reason, if not quite an excuse. If he wasn't acting this way before recently, and there are no older allegations, then I can buy that this is bullshit or just a symptom of his age.

I won't dismiss it completely, but I'm not rushing to condemn either.

After Bill Cosby, I think I will always hesitate about not believing people just because you don't think your hero would do that.

if there was any other source than the daily mail or if his new nurses had problems, or if there was any other source than the daily mail, or if the company had gone to the cops first instead of the daily mail, or if there was any other source than the daily mail

then yes it would be worth looking into. as is daily mail is trash, the onion prints more truth.

It gets more complicated than that. I want to give him the benefit of the doubt, but I don't want to dismiss these women.

[up]It doesn't appear to me that the Independent's story is different from what the Mail has already reported. Likely they're just reporting generally on the allegation and the denial. It's not clear to me whether the representative mentioned was quoted in the previous story or whether they actually spoke to the Independent.

The main thing I'm interested in seeing is whether this results in more allegations coming out. I'm hoping for it, honestly. I want to believe women. I don't want to believe the Daily Mail. So I'm torn. And having more women come forward would make that a lot easier to deal with.

I'm really torn on allegations such as this. On the one hand I believe accusations of sex crimes, and indeed any serious crime, should certainly be taken seriously, but on the other I believe in presumption of innocence as well. Kinda hard to tell where one should end and the other begin sometimes, no?

I'm totally okay with assuming guilt for the likes of Cosby (over 50 accusers), Weinstein (over 80) or Savile (over 200), though.

Think of it this way. If you start believing any random tabloid, legitimate accusations will once again become harder to get through, because of overabundance of tabloids trying to take advantage of the situation(which was bound to happen sooner or later).

Leave the knee-jerk condemnations to Twitter and Tumblr. You're better than this. Stay calm and wait.

[up] My first reaction basically boiled down to, "I believe women, but does that mean I have to believe the frigging Daily Mail?"

If the Daily Mail said water is wet, I would want to see that confirmed by a reputable source. So I really, really don't want to believe a damn word it says. But at the same time, I don't really want to doubt it just because of the source.

But that's why I said I'm curious to see what comes next, and whether more women will come forward.

Aaaanyway, let’s change this controversial topic to focus on another controversial topic related to the recent issue of Avengers.

Voyager: the Forgotten Founding Member of the Avengers . . . Have Marvel learned nothing from the whole Sentry experiment!?! Better yet, have the comic industry learned nothing from Triumph.

New heroes billed as being long forgotten legends JUST DON’T WORK! Its an asinine retcon. It treats readers as idiots to believe such a character have existed for a long time. And in the end, fans would just hate the character and question why the writers hype them up innthe first place.
