Exactly. Doesn't prevent some people from assuming so, though.
Welcome to Estalia, gentlemen.Yes? Did anyone ever say it was?
Really from Jupiter, but not an alien. On the first date thing. See I always found that funny, the only people I've always split the bill with is dates. Well that's always been the plan, both my gilrfreind and I have ended up just getting the food at times, we try to balance who pays and when we split so we're paying the same but we're at the point where we don't keep tabs and just kinda wing it so that we're roughly splitting costs.
I regularly pay for friends though, I pay and don't let them pay me back fairly often. It's different with them because they're friends, me taking care of them and being their 'protector' makes sense (most of my friends are younger then me and I tend to get a bit big siblingy towards them), while with someone I'm in a relationship with I want a partnership of equals.

"And the Bunny nails it!" ~ Gabrael "If the UN can get through a day without everyone strangling everyone else so can we." ~ CyranThat just seemed to be an assumption around here. It's not that simple. It's never that simple.

Keep Rolling OnIt's an example of We All Live in America when it pops up, but people here are learning.
"And the Bunny nails it!" ~ Gabrael "If the UN can get through a day without everyone strangling everyone else so can we." ~ Cyran@Greenmantle, Nothing is ever that simple and it would be intellectually dishonest to assume otherwise, but this isn't what this particular thread is about necessarily. I mean obviously class issues are going to be a factor, you hear about that all the time with England and their myriad of accents or in India where it can be skin colour or what your bleeding surname is or however it is that caste system works.
Sexism just becomes one of many subsets of privilege and discrimination that falls under all of those because how you might treat a man of one nationality as opposed to a woman of the same kin and whether your culture likes or dislikes that particular nationality or ethnicity or not. It's quite the web, a web I'm sure we should have plenty of discussion threads for.
Maybe.
I should check because I'm really interested.

The Blog The ArtUsually I've also seen discussion of "privilege" talking about the differences between a white woman and a black woman protesting for Women's Rights, or a wealthy gay man and a poor gay man protesting for LGBT's Rights. Sometimes I've also seen Marxist criticism of post-modern social movements springing from that.
((If we really need to, let's restrict yourselves to modern fashion. Perhaps the last 10 years?))
How (un)true is it to say that female fashion is based around sexiness (e.g. showing skin, body-hugging clothes), while male fashion avoids a lot of it?
I'd say male fashion can be quite revealing as well - tight t shirts to show off muscles, speedos...
'I'm trying not to get involved. I'm just here for the companionship' - AyoadeI wanted to focus more on the sexism behind the clothes men and women wear. May still be a suitable topic for the Fashion thread though.
Is it standard for males though? From what I've seen so far, males usually wear dress shirts or loose t-shirts with trousers that are at least knee-length. While females have more variety, they tend to get blouses with random cut-outs and/or translucent fabrics to show skin, tight pants or short shorts or skirts that are at most knee-length. Plus high heels.
This is from casual observation, which is why I'm asking here to check if I'm overreacting.

@Hellomoto, you're not crazy, that's basically true for western fashions. One of the first things my sister noticed when she was doing a lot of observation in fashion when trying to do more diverse and creative designs and stuff in her art.
Dudes, at least in western societies, have sort of less expectations on looks and less overt variety. I mean, variety exists but it isn't exactly mainstream or everyday clothing like a lot of fashions made for women. Heck, it seems to me that my sister's solution to the lack of variety in men's clothing was to make the clothes a lot more like clothing designed for women if not outright just draw dudes in women's clothes.
The Blog The ArtI wouldn't say it's standard, but it's definitely an option out there and often marketed as the aspirational look. For example we have David Beckham marketing for H&M and his 'tighty-whities'.
But women do have a ton more interesting designs than men do.
'I'm trying not to get involved. I'm just here for the companionship' - Ayoade... I wanted to say that female fashion seems to focus on Fanservice. Am I crazy for saying that?
No.
Check out my fanfiction!I agree, it reminds me of this Mitchell and Webb sketch actually: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M9fFOelpE_8
'I'm trying not to get involved. I'm just here for the companionship' - AyoadeMale style, on the other hand, is made to make your shoulders look wider, your chest bigger, your back and stomach straighter, and your legs slimmer. Which takes a lot more effort and subtlety than just showing skin or pushing up your assets. There's actually a lot of variety in men's clothing; no two shirts are the same. But you have to pay attention to the details. Men's clothing is all about subconscious suggestion and creating an impression of neatness, strength, and dignity.
Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.I just wear plain a black shit, blue jeans and boots to save myself of the trouble choosing your attire is, or simply wearing clothes that make me comfortable.
Inter arma enim silent legesNot the way I wear them, apparently. But I guess I have to be skinny for them to work. Also it sounds terribly uncomfortable and like a lot more thought than I would ever put into clothing. I have a sense of style and colour coordination but nothing that resembles that much knowledge of clothes.
The Blog The ArtWhat's uncomfortable about that?
Check out my fanfiction!I think he means "overcomplicated" rather than "doesn't feel right on you".
Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.Skinny jeans aren't always fun to wear that's true, I'm personally a fan of waistcoats, for reasons that nobody knows I feel less formal in a waistcoat and a long sleeve shirt, then in just a long sleeve shirt.
"And the Bunny nails it!" ~ Gabrael "If the UN can get through a day without everyone strangling everyone else so can we." ~ Cyran
Which means the whole matter isn't as simple as black vs. white, or man vs. woman, is it?
