I'm not arguing the image is bad, I just want the caption to tell me what the scale of the game's pricing is.
That was my point as well...
Something like, "Only 299 rupees to go. This may take a while. Can I Jump Cut to where I have gathered them all?" (I've been watching too many Let's Plays recently...)

The Internet misuses, abuses, and overuses everything.I would argue that an image which doesn't rely on the value of currency in a given setting would be preferable, largely because it wouldn't raise this type of question. As it happens, we already have at least two such options (from the other thread, which may or may not have been reposted in this one).
Neither of those have numbers on them.
Becky: Who are you? The Mysterious Stranger: An angel. Huck: What's your name? The Mysterious Stranger: Satan. How do they (which images?) rely less on value?
The Internet misuses, abuses, and overuses everything. The bottle images in the other thread are just Link holding up a bottle and nothing to indicate it's rare at all. I don't even know what the Final Fantasy video is about.
That's pretty much what I was thinking. Something rare is valuable (generally speaking), and just finding it doesn't indicate that. It may just have been the first of a hundred of said items found.
The Internet misuses, abuses, and overuses everything. If it needs a caption about the value of money, maybe pointing out that before gaining access to the shop with the bottle, money is capped at 200?
I thought it was capped at 300...
The jerky example is actually better because 9900 is a large enough number that the reader doesn't need to be given a context to know that it's large. (Even 9900 yen or 9900 cents would be ridiculously expensive jerky. And no reader would assume that a gold is worth as little as a cent anyway.)
Alternately you could use a later scene from Earthbound. Since that uses dollars, no context is necessary to know that the number is large.
Except the "jerky image" doesn't actually have jerky in it, it's a shop background and text asking if the player will buy something for 9900G.
If pricing context is needed, it won't become unnecessary simply because the number is large. It could be just Ridiculous Future Inflation. And unlike the Wind Waker image, the jerky image doesn't even show the player's current money.
The Wind Waker example is also better because it's the only bottle for sale in the game. Its rare, not just expensive.
Also, it could be dragon jerky. That's bound to be expensive and rare. Or it could be a lot of it.

The Internet misuses, abuses, and overuses everything.I agree with the Wind Waker pic. We could just have the caption state that the starting cap is 300, giving a relative value by showing that you can't even carry that much money at the start.
Starting cap in Wind Waker is 200. It then goes to 1000, then 5000 after being upgraded.
Bump. I like the Bottle image and there needs be no nitpicking about the clarity. It's pretty clear that rupees are money and that 201 saphire things aren't enough.
The Crystal Caverns A bird's gotta sing.I also like the bottle.
Momentum, a function of mass and velocity, is conserved between portals. In layman's terms: speedy thing goes in, speedy thing comes out. There's enough of a consensus spread over the thread to go with the bottle pic, so it's up, potholed, and tagged. Caption or no?
Becky: Who are you? The Mysterious Stranger: An angel. Huck: What's your name? The Mysterious Stranger: Satan.
"What is this, Swarovski crystal?!"
Duly noted.

That's great :) But I think Swarovski is a more well-known brand?
Becky: Who are you? The Mysterious Stranger: An angel. Huck: What's your name? The Mysterious Stranger: Satan.Just to toss it in there "Can't I just use an empty Healing Potion bottle That I bought for 10 Rupees?"
Potions are only sold to people with their own bottles in zelda games.
At least in shops. Some installments have you acquiring your first and/or second bottle with a potion of some kind already in it. Either way, that caption wouldn't work.
Aww nerts. Hmm... "With that price tag, no wonder everyone recycles bottles!"
Crown Description:
The image which needs captioning.◊
Don't think anybody was nitpicking. My point was to say "none of that is a big deal" and perhaps steer the caption (if any) direction. Agree with ^^ that "201 = rupees" is less likely to be clear to someone who doesn't know Zelda, though; perhaps something about 201 not being enough. Not critical tho.
Also, little dark, brightened: [1]◊
