[up][up]... Now I'm thinking whether or not Evil!Dipper would be smart enough to backstab Bill and become the... Big Bad of the show? I don't know if Bill rules over anything, so I can't say Dipper is going to usurp that title.

Personally, I'd like to see either: a) the Pines twins stay together, subverting the expectations that they'll fight (even if they spend an entire episode separated, thinking whether or not they should still be together); or b) the Over the Garden Wall ending (SPOILERS: the Big Bad offers the older brother a deal to keep the younger stepbrother's soul alive in a lantern, the older brother seems like he's going to take it, then goes "Wait, no. That's stupid.").

There is no sister. None that we see. Shermy is short for Sherman, a Jewish name that fits the Pines background (you see a Hebrew symbol on their shop).

Then again I think the Shermy thing is Stanley lying. I don't doubt he exists, but the timeline required for him to be the grandfather is impossible for a variety of reasons, and there is no evidence of an older sibling at all.

Stanford accepts it. Dude is rather smart.

Also aren't they in a weird ambiguous Jewish situation made by Alex Hirsch to stop people from fighting over it?

What weird Jewish situation?

Also, I'm not sure I understand why there's a dispute of whether or not Shermie is male or female. Is it something to do with the Pines surname?

Alex has said that there will be no confirmation on whether or not the family is actually jewish. Leaving them in a sort of limbo on that.

I think this happened because he wanted people to stop being hostile to each other about it.

That Stanley is Dipper and Mabel's granddad?

I remeber someone in a Youtube comment theorizing that the reason Stan hated Gideon was because Stan was German and Gideon was Jewish.

Maybe that baby is the Pines twins' dad rather than their granddad. Maybe Shermie is Stan and Ford's older sibling away from home who fathered that baby and then dumped it on their parents.

EDIT: Wait, I see the article already suggested something like that. Anyway, I don't believe either of the Stan twins is the grandfather. Because I'm at a loss for words for what point such a reveal would serve. I mean, "Our close grandfatherly relative who for all intents and purposes we treat as a grandfather substitute turns out to be our grandfather? GEE THAT CHANGES EVERYTHING!"

Besides, how would you explain it? The kids parents evidently introduced Stan to them as their uncle. Which would imply Stan either lied to his own child about being their uncle, or the kids' parents are keeping his secrets for some reason. Again, why? How? And how would this "twist" forward the story in any way? It'd be kind of like if Luke Skywalker's dad turned out to be Uncle Owen. We'd be asking, yeah, what was the point of that twist?

Plus the kids don't seem to think their granddad is dead, plus Stanley effectively literally killed off his identity and it seems that no one ever knew about him.

So I just saw the Boy Band and Subliminal Message episode.

It was brilliant. It had some great dialogue, and characterization, and the boys are just this side of the Uncanny Valley.

Also, man are those boys cute...

Stanley and Stanford hadn't seen each other since they were teenagers. Stanley was kicked out of the family outright.

If Stanford was the grandfather, there would be no reason to lie to the twins about who he is.

If Stanley was the grandfather, the family that he started wouldn't be so close to the family that booted Stanley as to send the kids to live with Stanley's brother, who the kids explicitly didn't even know existed.

But the kids knew about Stanford, they didn't know about "Stanford's dead brother".

Hm… I'm gonna say it, Stanley's a granddad theory is a little more believable than I thought. Maybe Shermie is made up, maybe we're misunderstanding their position in the family tree. Or maybe not.
