And for a less cool twist. If Bill is Ariel and Ford Prospero, then does that make Mabel Miranda? Is Soos Caliban?

Wheel around Bill. If Ford = 6 fingers, who's glasses? Are the 6 fingers the journal? That was the one piece of evidence that had prevented me from arriving to the conclusion we see in NWHS. It still has me completely stumped.

The symbols don't necessarily indicate people. The six-fingered hand is almost certainly the Journals.

Ford exploited the copy machine for all it was worth.

Even if it meant balling up into the fetal position to get the scanner to read his entire body.

Judging by the Wikipedia Episode guide page, this show is on another hiatus?

According to the page the next episode won't come out in-till August 3rd, and the next episode after that won't come out in till August 24th.

Oh well, I just finish the 3rd episode btw.

That's not a Haitus. That's pretty much the normal episode gap for Season 2.

You know what? Not the worst wait we've had in a while. At least theirs other shows that have been on to keep my interests occupied while I wait. It could be much worse. And at least we know when the new episodes will be out.

We've been on worse breaks, folks. We can survive this one.

Uh, I watched the first season, then I forgot about the show until after NWHS was released… XD

It's pretty blatantly Bill, I think.

• When McGucket exits the portal, he says "BILL CIPHER TRIANGLE" backwards over and over, then launches into his prophecy about "Beware the beast with just one eye."
• Immediately after that, Ford starts hearing whispers in the room with him. This is implied to correlate to his first meeting with Bill, noted in the journal, "Bill has proven himself to be one of the friendliest and most trustworthy individuals that I've ever encountered in my life. What a guy! I honestly can't trust him more. Not evil in any way, Bill is a true gentleman."
• Something happens between Bill and Ford that reveals Bill's true motives, resulting in Ford's repeated warnings like "CAN NOT BE TRUSTED" or "DO NOT SUMMON AT ALL COSTS" on Bill's page.
• This may or may not be related to Ford realizing the dangers of the Universe Portal and slapping warnings on those pages too. When we last saw him, he was confidently plowing ahead with the device, but when he calls Stan, he's in the same place McGucket was: terrified of his findings.
• Further warnings like, "He's always watching," and "He's in my wallet!" also seem to relate to the many Eye of Providence symbols that can be found throughout the show. Also to the negative twelve dollar bill, which features an actual doodle of Bill Cipher instead of an Eye of Providence. Even the Universe Portal distinctly resembles Bill.
• Finally, when he has Stan come to get Journal 1, we see the paranoid wreck he became at the end of the journals, but his behavior is very distinctive. He pulls Stan inside, then shines a light into both of his eyes; he appears to be checking for vertical slit pupils like Bipper had, distinctive traits of Bill possession.

Bill did want to destroy Journal 3. Why is anyone's guess.

He told us why: to keep the information within out of Dipper's hands. Same reason he smashed the computer.

Based on the many warnings and prophecies, Bill is playing a game where time is on his side. The implication seems to be that if everything continues as it is, his apocalypse will come on schedule. He doesn't need to manipulate anybody into bringing it about, and so keeping people ignorant until it's too late is his best game plan.

Bill wanted to prevent Dipper from accessing the info on the author's laptop. When McGucket fixed it, they found a countdown to the opening of Stan's portal, and a warning about how it could destroy the universe. I think the implication is that Bill wanted to make sure Dipper didn't prevent Stan from opening the portal and freeing Ford. He wanted Ford back.

How did a laptop know Stan was trying to open the portal anyhow? Like, I thought Stan was fixing the machine? How on earth can that computer tell exactly when Stan would have the machine fixed?

It wasn't fixing, it was loading, at least at the point the countdown started. I guess the laptop is linked to the basement machinery somehow.

Actually I think if Dipper had discovered the password, he'd figure out Mc Gucket was its owner faster, and then he'd calculate the oncoming activation of the portal sooner. That would mean the Pines brothers could actually be fast enough to stop the portal's activation.

Destroying the laptop delayed the reveal just long enough.
