Is it the same puppet from the credits stinger in the puppet episode?

According to a quick google search, the only difference I can see is that the Mc Gucket you mentioned has a band-aid in its beard. Maybe it is, maybe it isn't.

Also, just now I noticed Dipper's "Who's the Author?" board is behind Mc Gucket, except it has the "Stan Pines is Dead" newspaper. Huh. I'd call spoilers, if it wasn't written in English.

At the very least, I think Dipper is going to be very excited about getting to meet his hero, the Author of the journals.

That should relieve a bit of the hurt he must have felt when Mabel decided to trust Stan over himself.

Yup. From what I've seen, a lot of them are on the 'Mystery of Gravity Falls' channel on You Tube. I don't think that channel has an official affiliation with Alex Hirsch, but...a lot of the stuff on there makes you wonder where they get it.

He occasionally interacts with Alex on Twitter.

I think the Mc Gucket Puppet clips from that channel are in fact the same ones that were on TV today.

If the final plot is:

• Bill grooms Dipper to make things so much worse.
• Mabel puts on her cheerleader outfit to get Dipper back in the fight.
• Despite all odds the good guys win and the world is returned to normal.

Then just shoot me.

Seems far more likely to me that Mabel is going to be the one to stab Bill in his big stupid eye with the Macguffin.

Dipper may or may not be ineffectual and/or need rescuing.

Dipper alienating his family in favor of Bill is very unlikely, at least knowingly. Dipper alienating his family in favor of The Author, on the other hand, seemsa lot more probable.

He's definitely going to have a falling out with Mabel, anyway. There was way too much Tempting Fate in the beginning of "Not What He Seems" for it not to happen.

I could definitely see The Author revealing himself to be an "irresponsible explorer/scientist type" or even unhinged, and maybe even playing right into Bill's hands while exploring the secrets of Gravity Falls (most likely unwittingly, but maybe even willingly if there's something more we don't know about), with Dipper following him until an inevitable My God What Have We Done moment. Basically he seems like the perfect mentor but then turns out to be more of a Shadow Archetype.

That would be my guess as well; the Author basically exacerbates all of Dipper's existing personality problems and gets him into trouble because he doesn't have Mabel as a mitigating factor.

Pretty much what I expect. Think there's gonna be a split between Mabel + Stanford and Dipper + Author?

Seems pretty likely, though not until later in the season I think.
