Salazar was a traitor because either loyalty to Menendez, belief that the system is broken, or both. He recognized that the individuals were good people; they just happened to be on the opposite side of the fence. That's why he urged Menendez to not kill Briggs.

Shepherd, on the other hand, turned traitor because reasons. Really. Fucking. Stupid. Reasons. Because terrorists, in league with Renegade Russians - whose homeland has a history of losing an unknown number of its thousands of nukes - manage to get a nuke and use it, killing some 50,000 American troops in the process. Tragic? Yes; but, I'm sorry? Are shocked that the entire fucking human race didn't flip their shit at a rather plausible event in The War On Terror as if they were the furthest-right members of the Tea Party fighting the Revolutionary War at the Alamo while simultaneously receiving news of Pearl Hrabor and 9/11? Listen General, this event is an excellent reason for urging NATO to redouble their counter-terrorism efforts and recommend Russia be diplomatically pressured into taking more accountability for its WM Ds. It is a really fucking stupid reason for betraying your country and allies by secretly working with the party responsible for the nuke to kickstart WW3 via America having to defend the entire eastern seaboard for the entire military of a destabilizing, nuclear-armed Russia while also fighting other ongoing wars; thus ensuring the deaths of exponentially more Americans, military and civilian alike, than had been killed by said nuke.

The betrayals in Black Ops 2 were at least somewhat reasonable and believable, when not true to history. Shepherd's betrayal was just stupid.

[up] Yeah, Shepherd was one heck of a stupid villain. I mean, would he even get more patriots on his side? If anything, his plan would just lead to more jaded Americans.

Then again, Treyarch has always been better at storytelling than Infinity Ward.

@Airman - Never thought about it that way. I think you have points.

I just remembered: Didn't Alex pretty much kill the president? He got no repercussion for that?

We don't know. But at the very least, Lee Harvey Oswald got the blame.

First DLC trailer:

Is it just me, or does that Mirage map look to be inspired by Spec Ops The Line?

Okay, so let's try this:

This game is about Ban Mido, Merle Dixon and No-Role-Guy, under the command of Coroner Bludsworth, going after the Watergate Burglar. To find out more about the Watergate Burglar, they go talking to a former Secret Service agent. Secret Service Guy is Ban Mido's Honorary Uncle, and fought alongside his father, Jake Sully, and also the dad from Are We There Yet? and Francis Hummel in Vietnam. Jake Sully is retired and looking after his son, when Francis Hummel, now Batman, and Oliver North show up. They do various things, until the accidentally kill Watergate Burglar's sister, the kid from Michael Jackson's Earth Song. Watergate Burglar becomes a wanted terrorist, with Valmont as his right hand man. Fortunately, they have a mole in his organization, Sgt John Lugo. However, shit happens, and President No-Role can convice Chinese Prime Minster Po's Dad to side with them if Catwoman's Policeman Boyfriend, who's in charge of China's military, is killed.

Also, the Emergency Medical Hologram and the Pink Time Force Ranger were co-workers.

Ban Mido gets air support from Commander Sheperd at one point, and has Mr Krabbs, Asura and Trudy Chacon under his command.

Well, I've officially found no possible way to save Chloe Lynch and Mike Harper at the same time.

Oh well, time to narrow down the points of divergence left to what happens when Menendez dies/lives both situations having Chloe living.

Also I've noticed something here in this game. Treyarch are very very lazy when it comes to many things.

The T-62 becomes the Black Ops T-55 when destroyed. Mysteriously, the USS Obama is escorted by San Antonio class amphibious assault ships, Arleigh Burke destroyers and even more mysteriously Russian Slava-class cruisers (one of them sinks and you can watch it go fully under), Nanuchka-class corvettes and Osa II missile boats.

All of which were obviously lifted directly from Modern Warfare 3.

And there's a ton more of such recycling too for other things like civilian cars, weird voice clips from World At War and Black Ops (or MPLA/UNITA soldiers speaking Portuguese like the Favela criminals of Modern Warfare 2) as well as almost universal gun sounds.

So sloppy and obvious.

@ Scherzo 09

Like stuff about Weaver's sister being some GRU Seductress just screams 'bullshit Spy fantasy' to me.

How so?

It's actually possible to save Harper and Chloe, just as long as you don't finish Achilles' Heel. Play Odysseus via replay level and you'll see.
