I came across this during a run through the Untyped Pages list. It has some issues:

  1. There is a YKTTW from 2011 that looks like this, but was discarded for redundancy with Race Lift and was much better than this, which didn't seem to go through YKTTW
  2. No examples at all
  3. It might be redundant to Humans Are White or But Not Too Black, or at least offers confusion opportunities.
  4. No indexes or wicks
  5. On Google, the very first things that come up about "White Washing" refer to "deceptive or specious words or actions intended to conceal defects, gloss over failings, etc.", as per the Free Online Dictionary. I can't see the definition here anywhere.

It smacks of complaining about character racial "casting" you don't like. There are no shortage of situations where a majority "white" cast would be accurate, realistic and appropriate.

Cut it. If anyone thinks they can make a proper trope out of it, they can take it back to YKTTW.

Also, what and where is this Untyped Pages list?

Nuke and send a PM to whoever made it. It's a new account.

...though this may be a decent redirect for Race Lift.

Actually, Race Lift could use some work and maybe splitting. It's a good supertrope, but it's already soft-split into some distinct sections. And a few types of race lift - adding a token minority vs making a character white - serve very different purposes.

Cutlisted it and made the note on the discussion page.

[up]Far too misleading for my taste.

For Race Lift, you can make a new TRS thread.

Can we make white washing a redirect for race lift?

[up]No we can't. White Washing means something entirely different from Race Lift.

And it was cut now.
