I don't really care either way about Pewdiepie anymore, to be honest. I've seen a couple videos by Jacksepticeye and Markiplier, and they seem fine, but I'm not as into Let's plays as I was. Thanks for the suggestions, though!
On my off-topic thump: I'm sorry; there is no actual thread for Tuber Simulator so I assumed this would be the most on-topic thread to put that post in.
Pew Die Pie recently put out a video claiming that when he reaches 50 million subscribers on You Tube, he'll close his account. He details the reasons why here:
Seems to be about You Tube being kinda crappy.
It was all a douchey joke.

Reminds me of that one iCarly episode where Fred faked deleting his youtube series as a Publicity Stunt.
Lol people are so mad that they got trolled
"Can't make an omelette without breaking some children." -BurWell that was a waste of time and online speculation.
Have you any dreams you'd like to sell?Another reason to hate him
Formerly known as Bleddyn And I am feeling like a ghost Resident Perky Goth...Unsubscribed. He was good for a few weeks before he forgot his "i am not the 2012 douchebag me" thing and started calling everything "retarded" again.
> Another reason to hate him
Your hate only makes him stronger and..leads you to the darkside
New theme music also a boxI'm more envious that this guy is supposedly quite wealthy for his 'talent' and that I'm not him. I only first became aware of the channel when this girl I liked at an old job mentioned him and kind of got me started checking out Let's Players (because yeah, base jumping sounds cool when the cute brunette in your least favorite department does it for fun, why not, try base-jumping!).
Completely unimpressed, and the guy kind of seems like a douche. But to be fair I'm not really into Let's Plays or even Markiplier (outside of his FNAF stuff I guess)
But hey, Triple Pain here has a good formula right, obviously he's successful, right? Well holy crap I have respect for him for setting records and making cash and oh my god he is going to throw it all away? This media giant is going to delete his life's work because Youtube is dicking everybody oh my goodness pay attention to this Soble it's going to be internet history for some-
-watches video-
...
Welp, bye everybody.
I'M MR. MEESEEKS, LOOK AT ME!Honestly what pisses me off more is that he knows Youtube listens to him and that they would do something if he would actually go through it.
.....But no he had to use this as a publicity stunt just to get more subs and more money. That is beyond a dick move if you ask me. I am glad to hear that he lost a lot of subs over that and might lose a fair bit more. I never subbed because I never had any real reason to....
I don't like his content and haven't liked it for years but I never had any reason to hate him as a person and he just gave me a big one on a silver platter. I actually would of respected him for the shear amount of balls he would have if he went through with it just to prove a point to youtube and help other content creators out but he managed to single handily destroy that.

Formerly known as Bleddyn And I am feeling like a ghost Resident Perky GothFrom my understanding, he did this mostly to prove a point about clickbait sites. I think he's been doing some videos on that topic too? Looking at this Crowning Moment of Awesome page, he's been doing some callings out of You Tube's algorithms and of clickbait making articles about him.
Have you any dreams you'd like to sell?Did you guys see the response he posted today?
Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.Yes.
Felix likely has a case to sue for libel, here.
People are unconvinced about his apology.
And suing for libel, in the US, against the NYT?
Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.Wall Street Journal.
And sure, why not?
He's not short on cash, and is currently in the UK, not some place like China.
It ain't libel if what they're saying is true.
Insert witty 'n clever quip here.Wait, the Nazi is suing someone? What the fuck? What have we as a society come to?
I'd refrain from flat out calling him a Nazi, but a libel suit is kind of stupid. He got fired for dumb jokes and suddenly the alt right are championing him as their new "person in need of our support" or something.
Have you any dreams you'd like to sell?Yeah, people keep misusing the word "libel" in this situation. The Wall Street Journal published an article detailing that Pewdiepie's recent reoccuring trend of posting videos with Anti-Semitic content. They didn't make judgement on him as an individual or call him a Nazi.
"Satire" and "Free Speech" are not catch all get out of jail free cards that shields you from consequences either.

It's all part of a trend in society now where allusions to fascism and Nazism are considered funny. Ironic Nazism is considered hilarious by some people, a lot of it tied to the rise of the alt right. Even disregarding the alt right becoming the leading front of fascism in today's world, what Pew Die Pie did wasn't funny, but what ticks me off was how somehow the joke is more than an edgy joke now. It's somehow flat out satire. Some kind of comment on the media crucifying the precious Swede. But how is any of it satire? What he's pulling is an attempt to save his ass by trying to turn his comment into some kind of super important commentary, or basically making it into a Parody Retcon and saying "It's not an anti-Semitic joke, it's a satire of anti-Semitic jokes and the media's response to them!". The Parody Retcon defense is completely lazy. If you wanna make satire, then make satire with a point. That's what satire is, it has a point to it. What's the point here? God's sakes, Jonathan Swift had a point when he wrote A Modest Proposal. It was supposed to be parodying British attitudes towards the economic troubles of Ireland by taking the general selfishness of the society of that era and stretching it to hyperbole. It had a damn point. Pew Die Pie making silly anti-Semitic jokes has no point to it other then "lol edgy".
And then there's the videos responding to it. Of them, three got pretty big: Ethan from H 3 H 3 Production's, Markiplier's, and Jack Septic Eye's. I've watched all of them and if I'm going to be blunt, I found Ethan's to really on fallacious arguments and outright lies (ironic for someone saying the media was lying about Pew Die Pie), Mark's to be wishy washy, and Jack's to be honest and blunt. Ethan's video said Disney were hypocritical to drop Felix because Walt Disney himself was allegedly a racist and anti-Semite. Except the anti-Semitic Walt Disney of urban legend is just that, an urban legend. An infamous urban legend that is outright slander to the man's name. Song of the South ain't doing him too good in terms of race relations, but he campaigned for the star of that movie, James Baskett, to get an honorary Oscar and become the first male black actor to get an Oscar. Uncle Walt wasn't a saint, he had his issues a man of the time had about race, but he wasn't an evil anti-Semitic person or anything. Seeing Felix attack allegedly false statements about Felix by himself making false statements about Walt Disney is pure hypocrisy, never mind how whether or not Walt Disney himself being an anti-Semite and racist means Maker are hypocrites for firing Felix when Walt's been dead for years. And then another chunk of his argument boiled down to "I'm Jewish and was not offended, therefore people should stop being offended on my behalf". You don't speak for all Jewish people, if there are Jewish people who are offended, you being Jewish and not offended doesn't automatically mean their offense is invalid.
Mark's video, I barely cared about, it was wishy-washy "let's all just respect and love each other" stuff that didn't seem to strive to attack either side. Mark is a nice guy and all, I respect that, but he didn't come down for any one side outside of wishing people would stop calling Felix a Nazi. Slowbeef from Retsuparae, who themselves have been openly derogatory of Felix's videos and called out his old rape jokes, made a parody of Mark's video that called out the wishy-washy ambivalence of it all.
Jack, despite later admitting his regret for that video, voiced his honest opinion: Felix should've been fired, Disney were well into their right to do so, and the joke wasn't funny. Jack was flat out harassed and bullied over it, and that's the scariest part of this entire scenario: the people who are supporting Felix and saying "down with the media" for making an alleged fake narrative are attacking people for going against their own fake narrative. Jack didn't sit idly by like Mark, he voiced his opinion, and he called out his friend on his shit. That's what friends do, they don't agree with everything you do, and sometimes they deliver a kick in the pants if you need it. But then suddenly, Jack is a traitor to his friend Felix. I honestly don't know if Jack genuinely regretted his video or if he was bullied so badly by the Bro Army that he said he regretted it out of fear, but I would not be surprised if it was the latter. It's ironic how this entire "freedom of speech!" crowd only wants freedom of speech unless it involves people giving contrary opinions to their own.
