Yeah, I get the feeling that windows 8 is gonna suck. When windows vista was big, my laptop had it bundled. I willingly downgraded to XP becaused it sucked so hard. I have the feeling that I am gonna stick with 7 till 9 comes around.
The Pro version of Malware Bytes, which cost about $10 IIRC, does have real-time system protection.
To get people excited, eh? Well, anger, hatred and rage are forms of excitement, I suppose.
On another note, free software!

Fear is a superpower.BTW Sgt Ricko, I recommend uninstalling the existing anti-malware program first. From what I've heard, different antivirus programs tend to collide.
Resetti: I thought you had to already have the license to get those downloads. :o
ᐅᖃᐅᓯᖅ ᐊᑕᐅᓯᖅ ᓈᒻᒪᔪᐃᑦᑐᖅThey're giving them away now because running the validation servers was too expensive. I installed Photoshop and Premiere, but Premiere closed itself at launch, so I uninstalled it.
Fresh-eyed movie blogApparently not.
I probably will only use Photoshop, but having all that stuff for free was just too awesome a deal to pass up. Legitimate copies for absolutely no charge? How could I say no? :)
Fear is a superpower.Had to install a program (first time I needed to unpack a non-.cbr RAR on the new computer) and as CNET was the first hit, I installed from there. And they lost a lot of my trust.
They had me use the CNET Downloader, which I wasn't thrilled about, but I went with it. I selected the "custom install" as I always do, which had one option: opt out of installing promoted crapware.
When CNET's program was done, I expected I'd be able to run the program I came for. Nope, now I had the program's own installer. The only thing CNET's thing did was try to trick me into installing something I didn't want.
Fresh-eyed movie blogArrow keys have suddenly stopped working on both internal and external keyboard, which I keep on the top of my laptop - it's completely possible it happened because of an unintentional key press. I use an external keyboard because the internal one has been broken (it's possible to type but some letters don't work as expected and it's extremely laggy) for quite a while. I run windows 7. Everything else works normally.
Anyone has any suggestions? It's driving me crazy.

Did you make any software changes that might have caused it?
You could try system restore before the problem if you didn't do anything recently that you might lose.
@ Trivialis: No, I didn't. And it seems to have fixed itself. It suddenly works again. Huh.
Thanks anyway.
HALP VIRUS
As of ten minutes ago, my computer is infected with ransomware. It blocked out my entire screen with a message that I have to pay a € 100 fine to avoid a lawsuit over all kinds of crazy shit.
I Googled it on my roommate's laptop, and found out about starting Windows in "safe mode". This proved tricky, though; you have to hit F8 at just the right moment during startup. However, as I shut my computer down to try this for the tenth time, something weird happened: I got the 'this-and-this program is preventing Windows from shutting down' message, with the familiar options to 'Force shut down' or 'Cancel'. I clicked 'Cancel' and suddenly my computer was all back to normal, with no trace of the virus.
I immediately got AVG to run the most thorough scan available, of course. It's in progress right now.
If AVG finds nothing, does anyone know a way to check if the virus is really gone?
Mache dich, mein Herze, rein...How did that happen? Do you remember the details of the message? Screenshot?
So.
Laptop is being an asshole.
The mouse randomly changes settings and the screen keeps turning sepia every time I open it.
What do.
ᐅᖃᐅᓯᖅ ᐊᑕᐅᓯᖅ ᓈᒻᒪᔪᐃᑦᑐᖅYou can usually get around this problem by continuously tapping F8 during startup. That's how I always do it.

I remember when Norton Antivirus tended to collide with itself....
I <3 Malware Bytes.
I actually helped one of my friends who's computer was running slowly by suggesting it.
That.. and they were using internet explorer. :/
I hate that browser.
Speaking of computer problems, the computer froze for about a minute and this happened for a few seconds:

I think my notebook is getting depreciated.

@Trivialis
The CPU usage is abnormally high. Do you have a anti-virus running a scan right now?
Whats the laptops specs look like?
I am a tread head. Nothing more. Nothing less.My specs are decent: Duo Core CPU with 4GB of RAM. It was just during the startup.
I'm guessing that my computer takes longer to startup nowadays because I used it extensively for about 3 years. But I never saw this before so I was amused and took a screenshot. Hint: look at what's not responding.
I've been having kind of an odd problem lately. Basically, Windows won't update correctly. Every time I restart to apply the updates, it will say "Please wait, configuring updates." It will then function just fine until it reaches 15%, at which point it will say something along the lines of "Update failed, reverting." It will then restart again and not apply the updates. Any clue how I can fix it?
Bigotry will NEVER be welcome on TV Tropes. Are you using the auto-update that happens in shut down? If so, maybe you could try downloading/installing updates manually.
I was using VisualBoyAdvance (the VBALink version), and it didn't properly save my Link's Awakening progress. I remember a friend having a similar problem with save data with a PlayStation emulator. Anyone know why?

In the backyard, buried deep underneath the tree There's a monster, takin' root in the property...Check M Sconfig to see what programs run when you start. If you turn some of them off you computer will boot faster.
You know what irks me about Microsoft's support? Remember Desktop Gadgets? Debuted with Vista, implemented properly in 7? Of course you do, those verisons are still supported, right? Well, when you click on "Get more gadgets", it takes you to Microsoft's gadget market, where they hosted a bunch of vetted third-party gadgets for browsing. Or it would, if it still existed. Now when you go there, you get a message saying that they deleted it in order to get people excited about the Windows 8 Live Tile store.
